Sugarhill Gang Revives Classic Hit With First “Rapper’s Delight” Remix In Two Decades

Sugarhill Gang marked a major milestone in Hip-Hop history with the release of a new remix of their genre-defining anthem “Rapper’s Delight” and an upcoming vinyl collection, reigniting the legacy of the song that helped launch rap into the mainstream.

The new remix, crafted by acclaimed producers Greg Wilson and Ché, landed Friday (September 26) on a double-sided 12-inch record. Side A features the original 14-minute version of the 1979 classic, while Side B introduces a reimagined take by the veteran remix duo. Wilson, known for his work with Grace Jones, The XX and Missy Elliott, brings a fresh spin to the track that has influenced generations.

Alongside the remix, The Sugarhill Gang will release a curated vinyl album titled The Essential Cuts on October 17. Pressed on Zoetrope vinyl for the first time, the seven-track LP includes “Apache (Jump On It),” “8th Wonder” and two DJ edits of “Rapper’s Delight.” The full collection will also be available across all digital streaming platforms.

“Rapper’s Delight,” which has been sampled more than 215 times, remains one of the most pivotal songs in Hip-Hop’s evolution. Its impact has stretched across decades, inspiring artists like JAY-Z, Nas, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Run-DMC. The track introduced a wider audience to the rhythmic storytelling, lyrical play and beat-driven style that would define the genre.

The tracklist for The Essential Cuts includes:

Vinyl Album
Side A

  1. Rapper’s Delight (7:07 version)
  2. Apache – Jump On It
  3. 8th Wonder

Side B

  1. Rapper’s Delight (Greg Wilson & Ché remix)
  2. Kick it Live from 9 to 5
  3. Livin’ in the Fast Lane

Digital Album

  2. Apache – Jump On It
  3. 8th Wonder
  4. Rapper’s Delight (Greg Wilson & Ché remix)
  5. Kick it Live from 9 to 5
  6. Livin’ in the Fast Lane
  7. The Lover In You

In another nod to the song’s enduring influence, The Sugarhill Gang also dropped a new animated video for “Rapper’s Delight,” which blends colorful visuals with the original beat, capturing the era’s energy and the spirit of early Hip-Hop. The animation pays tribute to the late ’70s and early ’80s, immersing viewers in the cultural moment that birthed the genre.

“Rapper’s Delight” continues to resonate with both longtime listeners and new audiences. The song’s legacy was recently reflected on by New York Times columnist Charles Blow, who wrote, “It sounded revolutionary, even when I was a child…and it was. It was fierce and fun, simultaneously foreign and familiar. We gathered around it on the gym bleachers, pencils in hand, furiously stopping and starting the tape so that we could transcribe the lyrics in our notebooks.”

Young Thug Gives Epic Sermon, Closes YSL Chapter, Vows To Be Better Man

Young Thug used an Instagram livestream to deliver a passionate message about transformation and healing, marking what he called the end of his YSL chapter and the beginning of a new path forward.

The Atlanta rapper spoke directly to his audience with uncooked emotion and clarity, urging people not to let their past define them.

“Don’t let nobody tell you that you’re not good enough, you’re not smart enough,” he said. “Don’t let nobody make you feel like your mistakes define who you are.”

The livestream served as a personal sermon, with Young Thug reflecting on hardship, loyalty and self-worth.

“Don’t never let a hard time humble you ever in life, bro,” he said. “If you’re a king, be a king. If you’re a queen, be a queen.”

He emphasized the importance of self-prioritization and warned against blind loyalty. “Don’t publicly stand up for people and do certain things unless you know 100% before you do it that a person will do the same for you,” he said.

The message came just months after Thug walked out of jail following a high-profile racketeering case in Georgia. Prosecutors accused him and others of operating a violent gang under the guise of a record label, YSL Records.

He pleaded guilty to six charges, including drug and firearm possession, and entered a no-contest plea to gang and racketeering charges.

Thugger was sentenced to 40 years, with five years to be served in prison. After spending over 900 days behind bars, he was released and placed on 15 years’ probation.

The sweeping trial, which initially involved 28 defendants, dwindled in size as several co-defendants accepted plea deals. Despite prosecutors’ efforts, no murder convictions were secured.

In the livestream, Thug made it clear he’s ready to turn the page.

“That chapter’s closed, I’m done,” he said. “I’m going to be better, you know. I want to be a better man to my lady and, you know, my kids, my family, the few friends I do got, man. I just want to be a better partner, man, I want to be better with life.”

The speech coincides with the release of his fourth studio album, UY Scuti, which dropped on September 26, 2025.

The project features appearances from Future, 21 Savage, Cardi B, Travis Scott and Mariah the Scientist, with production from Metro Boomin and London on Da Track.

Reactions to the album have been mixed. Some critics praised its emotional weight, especially tracks like “Sad Slime,” while others questioned whether his creative spark has dimmed.

The album’s cover, which shows a white version of Thug, has also drawn criticism and sparked debate online.

Young Thug’s livestream ended with a hopeful note.

“This is a good life. God gave us this beautiful earth and I think that we have to be happy because we only got so long on this earth,” he said. “And just be better. Every day get better. Peace, man.”

This marks Bad Bunny’s second Super Bowl appearance following his 2020 cameo alongside Jennifer Lopez and Shakira.

“What I’m feeling goes beyond myself,” Bad Bunny said in a statement. “It’s for those who came before me and ran countless yards so I could come in and score a touchdown… this is for my people, my culture and our history.”

He added in Spanish, “Go tell your grandma we’re going to be the SUPER BOWL HALFTIME SHOW.”

The chart-topping artist’s most recent album, Debí Tirar Más Fotos, dropped in January and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, his fourth to do so, and became the highest-charting Spanish-language album in Billboard 200 history.

JAY-Z, whose Roc Nation has overseen the halftime show since 2019, praised the selection. “What Benito has done and continues to do for Puerto Rico is truly inspiring,” he said. “We are honored to have him on the world’s biggest stage.”

Bad Bunny’s resume includes four No. 1 albums, 113 entries on the Billboard Hot 100, 15 of which reached the top 10, and a trophy case featuring three Grammy Awards and 12 Latin Grammy Awards.

His influence also extends to streaming, where he was Spotify’s most-played artist worldwide for three straight years from 2020 to 2022.

The announcement follows Kendrick Lamar‘s record-setting 2025 Super Bowl performance, which pulled in 133.5 million viewers, making it the most-watched halftime show ever, according to NBC News.

Nicki Minaj Drags JAY-Z Into Album Rollout With Wild AI Image

Nicki Minaj dropped jaws and raised eyebrows Sunday with a surreal social media stunt aimed squarely at JAY-Z, teasing her next album with a cryptic image.

In a now-deleted post shared on Sunday (September 28), Minaj unveiled an AI-generated photo of Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez riding a camel—its head replaced with JAY-Z’s face. Standing beside the bizarre image, Minaj posed holding a sign that read “3.27.26,” signaling a March 27, 2026, release date for her upcoming album.

She also revealed the title of the album’s opening track in a follow-up post.

“The straw that broke the camel’s back,” a phrase often used to describe a breaking point. The title also appears to reference a long-standing jab at JAY-Z, who has been mocked with camel comparisons in online circles for years.

“I’ll unlock number 2 next week. Surprises for lots & lots of ppl. They have no clue,” Minaj wrote, adding a detective emoji to keep the mystery alive.

The post fueled speculation that she’s launching a serialized album rollout, following her recent cryptic tease, with more reveals to come.

Minaj later deleted the tweet and appeared to backtrack, writing, “Did someone hack my twitter? I posted the swivel chair gif & retweeted stats. Love you guys so much. God save the Barbz. For we wrestle not against flesh & blood but against principalities & power…against spiritual wickedness in high places…God is in control.”

The post came amid lingering tension between Minaj and JAY-Z, which stems from the NFL’s decision to book Kendrick Lamar for the 2024 Super Bowl halftime show in New Orleans instead of Lil Wayne.

The announcement of her next album comes on the heels of the success of Pink Friday 2, which dropped in 2024.
