Last week, Macklemore shared a “Free Palestine” message while opening for Ed Sheeran’s tour.
The audience applauded in support. Some, like Pink, pitched a fit, accusing the rapper of “antisemitism” for opposing genocide. (No, it doesn’t really make sense.)
Now, he has been removed from future tour dates, sending a chilling message within the music industry and beyond.
The legal implications of this case are pretty interesting. We’ll explain.
‘Macklemore will not be performing on the remaining support dates’
Unfortunately, Macklemore has been booted from the remainder of Ed Sheeran’s tour.
(A few years ago, we could not have imagined feeling invested in the rapper or this tour, yet here we are.)
The cause is that multiple venues at which they were scheduled to play allegedly threatened to ban the tour altogether if the rapper remained part of the lineup.
That’s complex and may lead to legal issues (more on that later).
First, let’s delve into exactly what the tour’s promoter is saying happened.
Messina Touring Group, the US promoter of Sheeran’s Loop Tour, explained to Rolling Stone how it went down.
“As the concert promoter for Ed Sheeran’s U.S. Loop Tour,” MTG explained, “we have been notified by venues on the upcoming U.S. tour dates that they will not allow a concert to take place with Macklemore on the lineup.”
This is a situation “which would result in the cancellation of the tour and impact hundreds of thousands of fans.”
A little vaguely, MTG confirmed: “After discussions with stakeholders, Macklemore will not be performing on the remaining support dates.”
The rapper was supposed to appear at eight of the tour’s 10 remaining US shows. Now, he’s out.

What did Macklemore say to get into ‘trouble’ like this?
To put it simply, Macklemore told the crowd “free Palestine,” referring to the plight of Palestinians who live under apartheid, settlement, bombing, and are well beyond the threshold for genocide by any reasonable metric as Israel continues to wage a campaign of terror upon a captive population.
He also played “Hind’s Hall,” a protest song about the ongoing atrocities.
Pro-Zionism organizations began to claim that the rapper’s statements were “antisemitic.”
This critique is, in and of itself, antisemitism, as it conflates the Jewish people — a vast and diverse array of people with a shared heritage and a tapestry of shared histories — with the criminal actions of the monstrous Israeli regime.
Pink was among those who shared this deplorable message. That said, even she clarified that she was not calling for Macklemore’s firing.
A couple of the studios remaining on Sheeran’s tour are privately owned. Within certain legal limits, Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte and Gillette Stadium in Foxborough can do whatever they like.
However, that is not the case with all or even most of the stadiums remaining on the tour. Many of them are operated, at least in part, by the government.
The United States government is not allowed to discriminate against people based upon their free speech. The First Amendment could be a major issue.
Unfortunately, any settlement through the courts will likely happen long after these tour dates are over.
Still, it’s nice to think that the rapper could win big in court on solid constitutional grounds. We certainly hope that he presses the issue.
Macklemore has been a vocal advocate for Palestinian rights and critic of U.S. foreign policy since the start of Israel’s war on Gaza.

The double standards are obvious
By the way, as Rolling Stone notes, one of the stadiums — Raymond James Stadium in Tampa — recently allowed Kanye West to perform.
Interesting when the Hitler enthusiast isn’t too antisemitic to play, but the guy who opposes genocide is a dealbreaker.
It almost sounds like this isn’t really about protecting Jews or about antisemitism, but something else. Something less noble. Something less good.
Now, Macklemore is pointing the finger at Robert Kraft specifically as the ringleader of this, to be blunt, cruel and unjust crusade against the simplest appeal to decency.
Kraft is one of the private stadium owners. Can the folks whom he allegedly roped into this vileness however say the same? We hope that he will take them to court.

By now, you’ve probably seen Sydney Sweeney’s ads for the sports betting app Novig. After all, they’re pretty much inescapable.
In addition to the fact that the company has gone all-in by posting the spots everywhere, the ads have also sparked widespread debate about everything from the ethics of legalized gambling to Sydney’s career choices.
Some of the harshest criticism has come from female athletes who believe that Sydney’s racy campaign has done tremendous damage to the cause of women in sports.
One such critic is British sprinter Amy Hunt, who addressed the controversy after winning the 200-meter dash at a meet in Budapest over the weekend.
“Sydney Sweeney, this is what women in sport look like,” she told the BBC after her race.
Australian surfer Felicity Palmateer echoed those remarks.
“Just absolute utter disbelief, incredibly disappointing, like, how far you can put women’s sports backwards in the space of a 42-second commercial,” she told CNN this week, adding that the campaign “is very damaging, especially for young females getting into sport, for females in sport, for females in general, just hypersexualized content.”
“We want to be valued for what we can do, not what we look like,” Palmateer continued.
Palmateer and Hunt were far from alone in their annoyance. In fact, it seems that Sydney’s latest controversial ad campaign has infuriated female athletes all over the world.
“I wasn’t going to share this as I didn’t want to give this any more attention. But I can’t keep my mouth shut,” Olympic swimmer Ariarne Titmus wrote on her Instagram Story, according to CNN.
“I can’t describe how infuriated I feel when I watch this,” Titmus continued, adding:
“Not only is this a kick in the face to every woman who has dedicated her life to perfecting her craft, but every woman who enjoys sports for what it really is — teamwork, friendship, dedication, excellence, unity … the list goes on.”
“Don’t know what Sydney thinks sport looks like, but THIS is what sport looks like,” swimmer Lani Pallister wrote on her own page.
You get the point. In general, athletes tend to not be fans of legalized sports betting. And it seems they’re really not fans of using nudity to advertise betting apps.
Sydney is no stranger to controversy, but this is some of the most widespread criticism she’s faced in her career.
Defenders have noted that her partnership with Novig is no mere endorsement deal, and she’s actually a stakeholder in the company.
So the situation might be more empowering than her critics have considered. Either way, Sydney stands to get very rich from the deal, so she might not be too worried about what her haters have to say.

When the season began, FanGraphs projected the Rays to finish last in their division and the Brewers to win 83 games. Now, with two weeks left in the regular season, the Brewers (93-57) and Rays (90-59) have already punched their tickets into the postseason and look to secure the top seeds in their respective leagues. Still, no team is infallible, and even the best clubs in baseball have their flaws. Here are our latest contender rankings, along with one reason for optimism and pessimism for every team on the list. (Note: Only teams within five games of a playoff spot as of Monday morning are included in our rankings. The Marlins, Cardinals and Twins were knocked off the list this week.) They’re only here by default because the AL West is putrid enough that a team 10 games under .500 is just five wins behind the division leader. We know the offense has been a problem all year, but a rotation that should be among the best in baseball has an ERA over 5.00 for the past month. The only real reason for optimism is the schedule; seven of Seattle’s last 12 games are against the Angels. Remember when they got up to .500 at the end of August? Well, the O’s have gone 3-9 since then and have the lowest slugging percentage and OPS in baseball in September. Third baseman Coby Mayo’s late-season resurgence has been a bright spot amid the slide, though. He has the highest OPS against left-handed pitching of any qualified hitter in the sport. Corey Seager is heating up, and Nathan Eovaldi and Josh Jung were just activated from the injured list. None of them, however, can address a bullpen that has been a problem all year and nearly cost the Rangers their latest series win in Arizona. Vladdy finally did it. It’s almost unfathomable that Vladimir Guerrero Jr. didn’t have a home run at home all year until Sunday, in the Blue Jays’ 150th game of the season. But he finally went deep as part of a four-hit day, and maybe that provides a spark. Their postseason push is not made easier by the fact that their besieged rotation lacks depth behind ace Dylan Cease. Despite the Astros’ many flaws, having Yordan Alvarez playing at an MVP level always provided hope. However, Alvarez is hitting just .238 with three home runs over his past 31 games and is now dealing with an ankle injury that forced him out of two games this weekend. His absence underscored the Astros’ lack of depth as they got swept by the AL-best Rays. The reason for optimism in Houston? The Astros play in the AL West, and their pitching has been better than expected in September (or, at least it had been until Sunday). As terrific as the bullpen is — and it is terrific, boasting the highest strikeout rate in MLB this season and a 2.24 ERA in September — an inconsistent starting rotation (6.33 ERA in September) and anemic offense (29th in OPS this season) make it tough for this club to find any consistency. Rookie Travis Bazzana is heating up at the right time, though, and Steven Kwan is having a much better second half. Still, it’s hard to imagine the Guardians doing anything of note unless or until José Ramírez finds another gear. The South Siders’ ability to mash is what got them to this point, but they’ve scored the fourth-fewest runs in baseball in September and rank 29th in OPS this month. Munetaka Murakami, Miguel Vargas and Colson Montgomery are all ice-cold at the same time. Meanwhile, the deadline addition of Luis Castillo has done nothing to help the rotation. On a positive note, they rank sixth in MLB in home runs on the year, and adding rookie Hagen Smith to the bullpen in a multi-inning role has provided more stability to a problem area. Maybe the offense finds it again before it’s too late. Arizona boasts the lowest team ERA in the NL this month, and the D-backs’ rotation suddenly looks like it might be a strength now that Corbin Burnes, Zac Gallen and Michael Soroka are all back from injury. The offense, however, has yet to put it all together (21st in OPS this season). It doesn’t help that Corbin Carroll’s back is banged up or that the D-backs did little to help their lineup at the deadline. The Padres are doing what they need to do, beating up on lesser teams to work their way into the playoff mix. It already looks like it’ll be a two-team battle between them and the D-backs for the NL’s final playoff spot, but at this rate, either could also end up the No. 4 or 5 seed. The deadline additions of Casey Mize and Robbie Ray have not exactly worked out, but if Fernando Tatis Jr. and Jackson Merrill continue to hit the way they are now, that’s a trade-off the Padres might take. Ranger Suarez, Sonny Gray and Payton Tolle have a combined 1.15 ERA in September. That should get the Red Sox excited about October. Less exciting? Their offense still isn’t inspiring a ton of confidence. And after going 3-3 this week against the Angels and Royals, the Red Sox now have to finish the season against four contending teams (Rangers, Rays, Guardians, Cubs). While the lineup hasn’t looked quite as dynamic lately — Chicago scored 12 runs total while getting swept by the first-place Brewers last week — the Cubs still have the best offense (No. 1 in OPS and wRC+) and defense (No. 1 in defensive runs saved and outs above average) in baseball this season, and Alex Bregman is playing his best baseball at the right time. That’s a heckuva starting point for any postseason hopeful. The problem? The pitching still lacks reliability and playoff-caliber stuff both in the rotation and the bullpen even after a medley of deadline moves. Aside from a clunker in Cristopher Sánchez’s last start, the Phillies’ rotation has been dynamite in September. The bullpen, meanwhile, is another story. And as good as Bryce Harper and Alec Bohm have been at the plate lately, the depth of the lineup remains a concern. The Phillies have to hope Jesus Luzardo’s stiff shoulder is only a temporary issue, because a lot is riding on that rotation carrying the team next month. A number of important pieces in the Yankees’ lineup (e.g. Ben Rice, Cody Bellinger, Luis Garcia Jr.) look great right now. The biggest superstar, however, is still finding his way. Aaron Judge is 3-for-17 with nine strikeouts and no extra-base hits since returning from the injured list. There’s a similar situation going on in the rotation, as Cy Young favorite Cam Schlittler, Carlos Rodón, Max Fried and Will Warren have combined for a 1.29 ERA in September while Gerrit Cole has allowed seven homers in 16.2 innings this month. If they can get Judge and Cole right by October, there’s obviously a lot to like here. Questions loom about the depth of the Braves’ rotation behind ace Chris Sale come October, but deadline addition Tyler Mahle (1.25 ERA in seven starts) is providing more optimism. Overall, the Braves’ lineup hasn’t exactly torn the cover off the ball lately; however, Ronald Acuna Jr. is looking like a star again. That might matter more than the rest of the offense’s September cold spell. A top three of Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tarik Skubal and Blake Snell might render all the Dodgers’ other problems moot, but the bullpen isn’t nearly as reliable as the top of the rotation. In addition, some encouraging signs lately from Teoscar Hernández and Kyle Tucker — plus the spark provided by top prospect Josue De Paula — can’t make up for the fact that both Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman are banged up at a brutal time. With Shane McClanahan on the shelf, the Freddy Peralta resurgence is coming at the right time. Peralta has a 0.78 ERA over his last four starts, and along with Drew Rasmussen, Nick Martinez, Ian Seymour and potentially McClanahan (if he’s healthy), there should be enough capable arms for the pitching to be a strength. The Rays’ offense, meanwhile, ranks first in batting average and second in steals, but it remains to be seen how their contact-heavy approach — they rank 21st in homers, 28th in expected slugging percentage and 29th in hard-hit rate — will play in October. There’s a lot riding on the power of Junior Caminero. It still would have been nice if they had added another impact bat at the deadline, but their lineup is leading MLB in every slash-line category in September, and Brice Turang, Jackson Chourio and William Contreras all look capable of carrying an offense right now. Strangely, considering how masterful their entire pitching operation is, the Brewers can’t feel supremely confident about their options to start games in October apart from Jacob Misiorowski and Logan Henderson.Latest Sports News from FOX Sports

Beloved actor Alan Ritchson is undergoing a major life change.
The week of the Reacher Season 4 finale (and the Neagley premiere), he has some personal news.
After 20 years of marriage, he and wife Catherine Ritchson are separating.
It sounds like they really tried to make it work.
It’s over for Alan and Catherine Ritchson after 20 years of marriage
On Saturday, September 12, Alan Ritchson and Catherine Ritchson shared a join Instagram post.
“After twenty years together, Cat and I have decided to end our marriage,” he began.
“And,” the post continued, “continue alongside one another in a different way.”
The Ritchsons affirmed: “We grew up together. We built a life and a family together.”
Referring to Calem, Edan, and Amory, they wrote: “And we are raising three incredible boys who will always be the center of our world.”
The Ritchsons emphasized that “nothing can diminish” their many years together.
Nor can anything take away from “the love and respect we will always share.” That’s good!
“The best gift we can give one another — and our boys — right now is friendship, grace, and a commitment to becoming the strongest co-parents we can be,” the now-former couple expressed.
“We also want to give each other room to grow into the people we are becoming,” the statement explained.
Deactivating comments to avoid “the whole world weighing in,” they very understandably asked for both “privacy and compassion.” That sounds very reasonable.
It sounds like they spent the past year trying to make it work
According to TMZ, Alan Ritchson “actually filed for divorce in December” of 2025.
However, the same report alleges that they then “reconciled in March.”
Some reconciliations stick. Others do not.
It’s clear that they still have a tremendous amount of love for each other.
Similarly, it is clear that they tried their hardest to make the relationship work. It did not.
Alan and Catherine married in May of 2006. And that was only after having met in high school and reconnected years later.
Though many of us have followed Ritchson’s acting career for years (he’s portrayed both Aquaman and Hawk in live-action adaptations of DC Comics properties, and to be honest we’d love to see him portray Orion in the Gunnverse), we can acknowledge that it has really taken off in recent years.
Additionally, some loud and deeply weird people have likely targeted Ritchson and his family with more harassment than we can imagine.
(And we can imagine a lot, considering that a Trump-worshiping neighbor appeared to ambush him on the street when he was with his children earlier this year.)
We wish the entire Ritchson family the best with whatever comes next. By all accounts, these are some very good people going through some personal changes.
