Avery Anna Surprised With ACM Award for New Female Artist of the Year

Over the weekend, Avery Anna reached a major career milestone, earning her first-ever ACM Award during her set at the Lonestar Smokeout festival in Texas. The emotional moment unfolded surrounded by a packed crowd of fans and was met with strong support from fellow female country artists online.

In the midst of performing her duet partner, Sam Barber, appeared on stage next to the excited and shocked songstress. His voice rang clear through the speakers as he proudly stated, “Hello everyone. I’ve had the amazing honor to tell Miss Avery Anna that she is the winner of an ACM New Female Artist of the Year.”

Cheers erupted from the crowd and Anna fell to the crowd and covered her face in absolute awe. Once she was able to collect herself, she took a moment to hug her family members while another voice read off the list of impressive female acts who have previously won the same award.

“Today, Avery Anna joins the ranks of Ella Langley, Megan Moroney and Lainey Wilson. She is this year’s ACM New Female Artist.”

The video shared online shows tears of joy following down the Arizona native’s face as the coveted trophy is presented to her. She stepped up to the mic and delivered a moving speech, celebrating the journey that has led up to this moment and the people who have been by her side through it all.

“Everybody that I love dearly is on this stage and this is my family right here. And my manager, David, he’s fought this fight with me this whole time and I’m just so grateful for this. I’m so honored,” she reflected.

She continued with even more gratitude for God as well as all the fans who have rallied around her, supported her and cheered her on as she lives out her dreams each day.

“I thank God every day that I get to do this and that he put this passion on my heart. And I’m so grateful for people like you that show up for artists like me and embrace the things that we have to say. So thank you guys so much. This is such an honor. Thank you, Jesus Christ. And thank you, Sam. You just faced your fear speaking on stage. Thank you so much,” Avery concluded.

Shortly after the excitement started to sink in, she again took to Instagram this time sharing a heartfelt post to her story that reads, “I cannot believe this. I can’t even behind to process it, thank you all so much from the bottom of my heart. Thank you thank you thank you, ACM Awards.”

This marked Anna’s first time ever being nominated for an ACM Award. She was named in the New Female Artist category alongside Mackenzie Carpenter, Dasha, Caroline Jones and Emily Ann Roberts.

As soon as news began to spread that Avery Anna had claimed the title, the kind messages began pouring in on her social media pages. Tons of fellow female acts jumped in the comment section to celebrate her win.

Megan Moroney wrote, “So happy for you 🩷😍” while Mackenzie Porter said, “Yesssss the best of the best” and Katilin Butts added, “Ahhhh!!! So happy for you friend!! ♥️♥️♥️”

Carly Pearce praised her stating, “Yes girl ❤️,” and Ella Langley wrote “👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼,” among so many other messages.

Anna’s fellow nominee Emily Ann Roberts even shared the news to her story, championing her fellow rising star. Roberts wrote, “Such a fan of yours and this is sooo deserved sister! Congratulations.”

It’s safe to say that Avery Anna had a weekend to remember. Along with claiming her first ACM Award, she made her Mane Stage debut at Stagecoach 2026 on Friday, April 24, 2026. Sam Barber also joined her in singing their standout collaboration, “Indigo.”

“I think stagecoach has seen me from the very beginning, from me just playing on the piano and now singing ‘Indigo’ with Sam, I mean it’s changed my life,” she told Palm Springs Life magazine ahead of her performance. “To share that with the Stagecoach journey is really exciting and fun. We’ve grown into kinda this new sound and new rock era of my life and it’s really fun to get to play that set for the first time at Stagecoach so I’m excited.”

Avery Anna is currently in the midst of her Girl of Constant Sorry Tour, which runs through May 9.

Fans can see Avery Anna take the stage as a performer during the 61st ACM Awards on Sunday, May 17. The show will be streaming live exclusively on Prime Video for a global audience across more than 240 countries and territories at 8 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. CT / 5 p.m. PT from the iconic MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Cody Johnson Shares Story Behind Unreleased Song He Co-Wrote With Wife Brandi 12 Years Ago

Cody Johnson has a new album on the way, and while discussing the process of narrowing down the track list, he opened up about a song he and his wife, Brandi, wrote more than a decade ago that ultimately didn’t make the cut. He reflects on the meaning behind the unreleased song and explains why it may serve a better purpose down the line on a different project.

The Texas native started with over 20 songs that he had ready to build out his next full-length album with, but after dropping a double album in 2021 and a deluxe project in 2024, he knew that he wanted this album to be made up of only 16 songs.

“I feel like a lot of songs on Human didn’t get credit. And then Leather Deluxe we’ve already did that. So I wanted 16 songs because it’s not too little, it’s not too much, it’s just enough to fill your day,” Johnson explained during his appearance on the Amazon Music podcast, Country Heat Weekly.

His highly anticipated cover of “Travelin’ Soldier” was the first to be cut, with Johnson saying it didn’t fit the album’s sound. He instead decided to release it on Veteran’s Day. “Blame Texas” and “Footlights” also landed outside the project, arriving on Texas Independence Day and April 6, Merle Haggard’s birthday, respectively.

Johnson then revealed that there was a separate storyline spread across three songs that didn’t make the final 16-track cut for Banks of the Trinity, arriving June 25. Among these tracks is his first-ever co-write with his wife, Brandi.

“There were three other songs that once I really started listening to the record, the first song was when they broke up, they fell in love and they broke up. The second song is when they’re both drinking their sorrows away because they broke up. The third song is a song that’s 12 years old that me and Brandi, my wife, wrote together.”

While Brandi is not a songwriter in her everyday life, she does know a thing or two about a woman’s perspective and that’s exactly what Johnson needed around 2012 when he began this unnamed track. At the time, the couple was living in a two-story rented house. He recalls his other half being upstairs enjoying a bath one evening while he was writing this song about two people who find themselves to be miserable without one another.

“I had this idea of like, this is the guy’s perspective, but what if the girl talks next? But I’m a man and I don’t really know how she would say those things. So I went up to her and was like, ‘this is what I feel like she should say. But how would a woman put it? You know, like, what’s a woman’s perspective on it?’ And so she just talked and I just wrote it down and it worked.”

In the end this turned out to be one of the “Dirt Cheap” singer’s favorite songs in his collection. The story follows the next phase of the couple’s journey, and the emotional push and pull of wanting to pick up the phone and call, but feeling too much pride to be the first to make the move.

He joked that while Brandi would get the credit she deserved, he would put it all under his publishing so that the checks went to the same place. However, she insisted, ‘no, I need my own publishing.’

Johnson responded, “it goes to the same bank account. And she said, ‘my fans need to know.’”

It’s unclear when the song will be released, but Johnson hinted a fourth song could eventually be added with help from a mystery female artist. He shared that he asked the singer-songwriter to listen to the three tracks in order, and she suggested they eventually team up to write an ending that would complete the story.

Since this write together, Cody Johnson and his wife have expanded their family. They welcomed their third child and first son, Jaycee Daniel in October, joining their two daughters, Clara, born in 2015 and Cori, born in 2017. With his baby boy being so young still, Johnson shared that his kids will likely not be joining him on the road in 2026, even at the end of the run when he heads overseas.

“People think that like we get to go over there and sit on the beach. No, it’s show, plane, show bus, show, plane. And it’s just, you just get through it,” he explained honestly. “I told Brandi, I was like…’if we wanna go anywhere in the world for a vacation, let’s just say this is when we’re gonna go and I’ll block my schedule off. But you don’t want it to live like I live when I go over there. ‘Cause it’s straight out of a bag and it is go, go, go.’”

Fans saw the country act take the Stagecoach stage over the weekend, and next up he’ll head to Las Vegas on May 16 to perform at the 61st Academy of Country Music Awards. The appearances come amid his ongoing Cody Johnson Live 2026 headlining tour, which kicked off March 28 and runs through November.

Lauren Alaina Reflects on Full-Circle Moment After Opening for Jason Aldean & Luke Bryan at Sold-Out Sanford Stadium

Lauren Alaina is reflecting on a full-circle life and career moment after opening for Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan at Sanford Stadium, calling the night one where “all of the stages of my life collided at once.”

The Georgia native took the stage inside the home of the Georgia Bulldogs in Athens, Georgia, performing in front of a sold-out crowd of 63,000 fans with both her family and her husband’s family cheering her on. She described the moment as especially meaningful, not only because of the massive crowd but because of how many chapters of her life came together in one night.

Alongside a series of photos from the milestone performance, Alaina shared just how special it felt to have her loved ones there supporting her, including her daughter Beni Doll.

“For the first time ever, I had all of my family and my husband’s family watching me on one of the biggest stages I’ve played in my career. I’ll never forget looking out and seeing my big brother with his wife and babies standing next to my husband holding my baby,” she wrote.

Alaina also reflected on the deeper meaning of sharing the stage with Aldean and Bryan, who played a key role early in her career after her run on American Idol.

“To top it all off, I opened up for my big brothers in music, Jason and Luke. The first time I stepped off of the Idol stage, they took me on my first ever tour. They have both taken me out on tour more than once since then. Turns out… all stages lead to Georgia. Last night I celebrated the ones you stand on and the ones you live through. I’m one happy girl.”

The “All My Exes” singer was part of a historic night at Sanford Stadium, performing in front of one of the largest crowds of her career alongside Aldean and Bryan. The evening also featured surprise appearances from Brantley Gilbert, who co-wrote Aldean’s No. 1 hit “Dirt Road Anthem,” as well as Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart, who joined the Georgia natives on stage during the show.

Lauren Alaina continues to climb the charts with her Chase Matthew duet and recently released her first song of 2026 with ‘Raining Whiskey.”

Of the song, she shared, “’Raining Whiskey’ is what happens when heartbreak meets happy hour. It represents a completely different stage of my life than the one I am in now, but it reflects one that I’m glad I lived through. I am happy to finally be able to tell the story of my twenties while living a new chapter in my thirties.”

The Grand Ole Opry member is set to perform at the 2026 iHeart Country Festival on Saturday, May 2 alongside Parker McCollum, Riley Green, and more.

Texas Tech QB Brendan Sorsby Enters Treatment Program For a Gambling Addiction

Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby has taken an indefinite leave of absence from the team to enter a residential treatment program for a gambling addiction. Texas Tech and Sorsby announced the move in a statement released on Monday. The school said it is “committed to supporting Brendan through his recovery process and to ensure his long-term health and well-being.” Sorsby was one of the biggest names in this year’s transfer portal. He transferred from Cincinnati, which then announced on Feb. 26 it would sue the quarterback for breaching his name, image and likeness contract. According to the lawsuit, Sorsby signed an NIL agreement in July 2025 covering the 2025 and ’26 seasons and that there would be a $1 million buyout if he transferred, payable within 30 days. Sorsby announced on Dec. 15 that he was entering the transfer portal and announced on Jan. 4 that he would play for Texas Tech. Sorsby received the most lucrative deal of the portal period — a reported $5 million — to return to his home state for his final season. It was not immediately known how Monday’s announcement could impact Sorsby’s availability for the season. “We love Brendan and support his decision to seek professional help,” Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire said in a statement released by the school. “Taking this step requires courage, and our primary focus is on him as a person. Our program is behind Brendan as he prioritizes his health.” In the statement, Texas Tech said its “primary focus remains on fostering an environment where student-athletes feel empowered to prioritize their mental health and seek professional assistance.” The school said it would have no further comment on Sorsby’s status “to protect the integrity of the recovery process.” Sorsby began his career at Indiana before transferring to Cincinnati. In 35 career games, including 31 starts, he has passed for 7,208 yards and 60 touchdowns, along with 1,295 rushing yards and 22 TDs. Britney Spears Targeted by ‘Really Shady Characters’ & Drug Dealers …

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Last month, Britney Spears’ DUI arrest was a low point.

She felt scared. She felt embarrassed. And she wisely checked herself into rehab.

However, some who care about her worry that there are other parties hoping to take advantage of her.

Alleged “shady characters” could be just as much of a problem after rehab as they were before.

‘Britney’s in a dire situation’

RadarOnline reports on Britney’s alleged state of mind surrounding her DUI — and who may be hoping to take advantage.

“Behind bars, the moment hit hard,” a source described. “Being in jail was a whole new low point for Britney.”

The alleged insider claimed: “She was sobbing nonstop and having horrible panic attacks.”

According to the source: “Britney’s in a dire situation.”

The purported insider then claimed: “Her life has been spiraling for a while but now it really does look like she’s hit bottom again.”

“People in her world are all saying she desperately needs rehab as she’s incapable of controlling her demons and seems to be on a path toward total self-destruction,” the source outlandishly added.

“This isn’t just a situation of someone going through a crisis that will pass in time,” the insider alleged.

“Britney’s been getting progressively worse for years now,” the source claimed.

Invoking her slightly awkward social media videos, the insider added: “You only need to look at her Instagram Reels to see she’s not in a stable place.”

Fearfully, the source expressed: “It’s scary as hell.”

‘She’s been hanging around some really shady characters’

“To be clear, it’s a life-or-death situation,” the supposed insider claimed.

“There are legitimate concerns that if Britney doesn’t act now,” the source went on, “it’s only going to get worse and therefore increasingly dangerous.”

The source added: “It’s fair to say no one can save her now – only Britney can ultimately save herself.”

According to the insider: “She has to want to get better, or there’s no real hope for her recovery at this point.”

Of particular concern, the unverified report goes on to mention, is the company that Britney has allegedly been keeping.

“She’s been hanging around some really shady characters,” an alleged insider claimed to RadarOnline. The source even claimed that some of her acquaintances “are known drug dealers.”

A second supposed source alleged: “The crew Britney is surrounding herself with right now is incredibly shady.”

That same second insider added: “A lot of these guys have criminal histories. Apparently, there are known drug dealers in the mix and other types that want to make a buck off her.”

We of course cannot verify any of these claims, some of which seem to be outlandish.

But it seems likely that opportunists would at least try to target Britney to profit off of her. Leeches siphoning off her wealth to the detriment of her well-being has defined much of her adult life.

Jinger Duggar Exposes ‘Dangerous’ Cult Theology to Blame for Brothers’ …

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Joseph Duggar’s arrest on charges that he allegedly molested a 9-year-old girl sent shockwaves through the family.

But he is not the first of his siblings to be accused of sexually abusing a child.

Jinger and Jeremy know that fans and critics alike are discussing why this horror keeps happening.

They explain that the Duggar family is caught up in a bad theology that gets worse and worse over generations.

Jinger Duggar on her podcast April 22, 2026.
On the podcast that she shares with her husband, Jinger Duggar speaks about how she felt “ashamed to have a body” growing up as a girl under the cult’s theology. (Image Credit: YouTube)

This ‘dangerous’ theology has done a lot of damage

During the most recent episode of their The Jinger & Jeremy Podcast, the eponymous hosts delved into Joseph’s arrest, Josh’s crimes, and the subculture that afflicts the family.

Jinger offered a brief explanation of Bill Gothard, his IBLP “movement” from many decades before she was born, and the “dangerous” environment it creates — especially for girls.

“A lot of families were well-meaning when they entered that setting,” she claimed.

“They thought, ‘Okay, I’m going to protect my family by putting up these very concrete rules for my kids to keep them safe, to keep them in,’” Jinger explained.

She continued: “‘To have friends that are going to be identical to us, that will shield our kids from the outside world almost, and let them be a light to the nations.’”

What Jinger is referring to here is the belief that the IBLP cult and similar Christian fundamentalist sects push: total cultural isolation.

Within these circles, there is a theological belief that the world has been supernaturally corrupted by the devil, and that isolating one’s children from other ideas — including other children — can keep them spiritually pure.

Mainstream Christianity generally acknowledges the idea that there are mechanisms for purifying oneself (though this varies, particularly between Protestants and Catholics) to meet their god’s standards.

(It is actually very normal for religions to both present non-physical problems and then provide remedies. Christianity’s involves a concept of “sin” and then methods of atonement.)

It is morally wrong to isolate one’s children from meeting their peers, preventing them from getting a real education or forming their own ideas. But, as Jinger’s husband points out, it’s also dangerous.

Jeremy Vuolo on his podcast April 22, 2026.

‘Lives are crumbling’

“And then decades later, it produced bad fruit,” Jeremy described.

He continued: “And decades later, it was exposed as false and lies.”

“And,” Jeremy remarked, “lives are crumbling.”

It is very natural for a Christian like Jeremy to view this as a topic of bad theology, first and foremost.

He and Jinger also delved into how the cult’s view of women and girls — as people whose “shameful” bodies entice men to experience lust — made gender into a prison.

Jeremy Vuolo and Jinger Duggar on their podcast on April 22, 2026.
On their shared podcast, Jeremy Vuolo and Jinger Duggar discuss IBLP and its pernicious impact upon her family. (Image Credit: YouTube)

However, Jeremy made sure to make it clear that they’re not claiming that Joseph, Josh, or anyone else are just victims of toxic theological teachings and thus blameless.

“Now, I’ll say this, you know, in reference to this direct topic regarding your brother, everyone is responsible for their actions,” he emphasized.

“So none of this is an excuse to say, ‘Oh, but the theology was poor, therefore someone’s not responsible for their actions,’” he affirmed.

Jeremy continued: “No, we fully, as the Bible teaches, the sword of justice is given to the government to punish evildoers.”

People of all faiths can likely agree that the government often fails to target all evildoers or to only target evildoers. But, in the case of Joseph’s charges, it sounds like the state is right on the money.

Biologists forecast a reduced Alaska commercial salmon harvest

By: Yereth Rosen, Alaska Beacon

Two spawning pink salmon head upstream in shallow water in Cove Creek in Whittier on Aug. 5, 2024. Pink salmon have two-year life cycles, the shortest of all of Alaska’s five salmon species, and in recent years big pink salmon runs have alternated with smaller runs. A smaller run is expected this year, leading to a forecast of a smaller statewide commercial salmon harvest compared to last year’s total harvest of over 197 million fish. (Photo by Yereth Rosen/Alaska Beacon)

Alaska’s statewide commercial salmon harvest this year is expected to total 125.5 million fish, less than two thirds of the total landed by commercial harvesters in 2025, according to the annual forecast released last week by state biologists.

The anticipated 2026 total, detailed in Alaska Department of Fish and Game 2026 forecast and 2025 review, is lower than annual statewide harvests in all but four years since 2000, according to department records.

The lowered expectations for the statewide salmon harvest are driven mostly by anticipated declines in runs of pink salmon, also known as humpback salmon, according to the forecast.

Pink salmon are the most plentiful, smallest and cheapest of Alaska’s five salmon species. They have two-year life cycles, the shortest of all of Alaska’s salmon species. Although there are regional variations, the general pattern for the recent past is alternating big-run and smaller-run years, with 2025 as one of the big-run years.

The year-to-year difference has been significant, said Forrest Bowers, who heads the department’s commercial fishing division.

“We have been seeing a pronounced even-odd year difference in pink salmon returns, with much larger returns in odd-numbered years,” Bowers said by email.

In all, about 197.4 million salmon were harvested commercially last year, 120 million of which were pink salmon, the forecast said. This year, about 60 million pink salmon are expected to be harvested commercially, according to the forecast.

For Alaska’s other four salmon species, the forecast is for a lower total catches as well, with a combined reduction of 11% below the 2025 non-pink salmon total harvest, Bowers siad..

That is not considered a precise prediction. There are estimate ranges for different species and locations, which put the anticipated 2026 harvest in the general ballpark of last year’s harvest, except for pink salmon.

Alaska commercial salmon harvest totals from 1975 to 2024 are shown on a graph. In recent years, totals have fluctuated widely from year to year, reflecting the pattern in pink salmon returns. (Graph provided by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game)
Alaska commercial salmon harvest totals from 1975 to 2024 are shown on a graph. In recent years, totals have fluctuated widely from year to year, reflecting the pattern in pink salmon returns. The 2025 total, not shown on the graph, was over 197 million fish, putting it among the top years in the past five decades for salmon numbers. (Graph provided by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game)

“When we consider forecast uncertainty and the distribution of harvests across the state, the forecast for non-pink salmon is fairly similar to the 2025 actual harvest,” Bowers said.

Sockeye salmon, also known as red salmon, is the second-most plentiful of Alaska’s five species, and the statewide harvest is dominated by Southwestern Alaska’s Bristol Bay, site of the world’s largest sockeye salmon runs.

That status will continue this year, according to the forest. Bristol Bay’s estimated 2026 harvest for this year is 33.5 million fish, a little over the average over the last 20 years — but smaller than in some recent years, when harvests in that region hit or approached records. Last year’s Bristol Bay sockeye harvest was about 41.2 million fish, a little more than three quarters of the statewide sockeye harvest.

This year, the statewide sockeye salmon harvest is forecasted to total 49.7 million fish, of which about two thirds are expected to come from Bristol Bay.

The forecasted chum salmon commercial harvest this year is 17.2 million fish, compared to 21.7 million last year. This year’s forecasted harvest of coho salmon, also known as silver salmon, is 2.4 million fish, compared to 2.7 million harvested last year. This year’s forecasted harvest of Chinook salmon, also known as king salmon, is 197,000 fish, compared to last year’s total harvest of 201,000 fish.

The department’s forecast details regional differences along with species differences.

In the Yukon and Kuskokwim river systems, salmon runs are expected to continue to be weak, as they have been for the past several years, according to the forecast. There is no commercial fishing anticipated on either of those river systems. The only commercial fishing in the Arctic-Yukon-Kuskokwim region is expected to be in Norton Sound and in the Kotzebue area, as was the case last year and in other recent years.

The newly released forecast is for commercial harvesting alone. It does not include subsistence or sports harvests. Reports detailing last year’s subsistence harvests are expected to be released in the future, the forecast said.

Jessica Biel Gave Marriage ‘Ultimatum’ to Justin Timberlake After Recent …

Reading Time: 2 minutes

This could ruin much more than the tour.

Justin Timberlake’s infamous DUI arrest became a meme, but it wasn’t the last time that he embarrassed his wife.

Now, Jessica Biel has reportedly “had it” with these humiliations.

Their marriage could end after 13 years if he screws up again.

Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake in October of 2022.

She has reportedly ‘had it’ with his screwups

In June of 2024, Justin Timberlake was arrested for driving under the influence in Sag Harbor, New York.

The singer had met some friends for dinner at the American Hotel, a historic institution.

When police pulled over Timberlake, his antics went viral — expecting the officer to recognize him and lamenting that the DUI arrest would “ruin the tour. The world tour.”

That line of course became a meme. Meanwhile, Timberlake entered a guilty plea to an impaired driving charge in September of that year.

In addition to acknowledging his guilt, he gave a mandated apology outside of the courthouse.

According to The Daily Mail, Jessica Biel was left utterly humiliated by her husband’s, well, humiliating behavior.

She reportedly “issued an ultimatum” to Timberlake.

And though the arrest was a big deal, this goes deeper than the widely memed DUI.

Biel has apparently “had it” with a string of his recent behavior, including a trip to Vega host an 8 AM golf tournament.

(As you may recall, the Invitational earlier this month sparked reports that Timberlake appeared to be intoxicated during the course of the event.)

What sort of ultimatum was it?

According to the report, Biel will “pull the trigger” on ending their marriage if Timberlake screws up again.

“There’s not much more she can take,” the source reasoned.

Not every marriage can relate to the problem of international headlines bringing shame to the family.

But some of Biel’s reported gripes with Timberlake may sound pretty familiar to plenty of people.

For example, the insider said that Timberlake is “never home,” even after wrapping up his infamous world tour last summer.

“She does everything with the kids,” the source summarized.

“And,” the insider continued, “she’s sick of being publicly embarrassed.”

Obviously, we cannot confirm a report about the inner workings of this — or any — celebrity marriage.

Additionally, what Biel may say to her friends (including less-than-trustworthy friends who might leak it to The Daily Mail) doesn’t necessarily reflect how she’ll actually react at her husband’s next blunder.
