Dijonai Carrington Addresses ‘White Privilege’ Remarks Following Sophie …

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The WNBA has been making more headlines than ever in recent months.

Unfortunately, most of the coverage has little to do with the players’ accomplishments on the court and much to do with various controversies pertaining to politics and social issues.

The latest drama began during a game — when Chicago Sky forward Dijonai Carrington was ejected after committing a flagrant foul against Sophie Cunningham of the Indiana Fever.

But it heated up on social media.

After she was ejected for giving Cunningham a forearm to the face, Carrington took to X (formerly Twitter) with a post that read simply, “WHITE PRIVILEGE.”

She also tagged Cunningham’s team.

The post didn’t sit well with many commentators and sports journalists, as Carrington’s ejection seemed appropriate, given the brutal nature of her foul.

One journalist who chastised Carrington was former NFL linebacker Emmanuel Acho.

“The refs made the right call on DiJonai Carrington. There’s no white privilege involved in that specific call,” Acho said on his Speakeasy YouTube show on Monday.

The remark led Carrington to allege that Acho had misinterpreted her comments.

“I’ve never once claimed that the assessment of the foul was white privilege,” Carrington wrote on X, reposting a clip of former NFL star Emmanuel Acho discussing her response.

“Try exercising your critical thinking skills, I know you studied psych. Furthermore, I’m the LAST thing from ignorant or asinine when it comes to speaking on ‘white privilege’, do ya research on that one.”

Carrington, who graduated from Stanford, added, “I actually went to school, one of the top universities, might I add, to educate myself on this exact subject. I would never use that term as a rhetorical weapon knowing the historical and social weight it holds without having the proper evidence to substantiate it.”

The rebuttal lead to a sarcastic response from Acho.

“You are correct, DiJonai Carrington, my assumption, along with the majority of the sports world, was that you posting ‘white privilege’ immediately following being thrown out of a game for fouling somebody white was regarding the foul.

“But if the two things are somehow not connected, that’s on me. I’ll stand corrected,” Acho wrote on X, adding:

“However, America is a speaker oriented country, so the burden is on you for being clear, direct and easy to understand.”

For her part, Cunningham downplayed any racial bias, saying “there’s no reason to even play that card.”

She went on to dismiss Carrington’s hard foul as “her just trying to get attention.”

The grudge might resurface the next time Cunningham and Carrington face off on the court.

For now, it’s another WNBA scandal in a season that’s been loaded with them.

Kate Beckinsale Slams Body-Shamers, Explains Health Struggle Causing Gaunt Appearance, …

Reading Time: 3 minutes

In recent years, there has been a lot of concern and discussion regarding Kate Beckinsale’s weight loss.

Like Ariana Grande and Kelly Osbourne, she appears to be dangerously thin.

Unlike those two beloved public figures, Beckinsale says that she can explain her alarmingly gaunt features.

The talented actress revealed her health condition. She then purged her social media, wiping the slate clean.

‘I receive an enormous amount of comments’

On Monday, August 10, Beckinsale shared a lengthy yet now-deleted post on her since-scrubbed Instagram account.

“As I’m sure you’re aware, anytime I post a photo of myself, I receive an enormous amount of comments,” she lamented.

Beckinsale wrote that these comments are “telling me how disgusting I look and I’m anorexic or I’m on meth or that I’ve lost so much weight.”

She even shared screenshots, sharing insight into how much she has fixated upon these comments.

The examples that Beckinsale cited accused her of using GLP-1 medications such as Ozempic and expressed overall concerns about her gaunt appearance.

“First off, I’ve lost my entire family, except my precious daughter, in a short amount of time,” Beckinsale wrote.

Both her mother and her stepfather passed away, back-to-back.

“The second thing is, I have a condition, which is an autoimmune condition called mast cell activation syndrome, and there’s another one called mast cell disease, and there’s mastocytosis,” she detailed.

“This is something that I was diagnosed with 16 years ago,” Beckinsale shared.

She recalled: “I was really, really lucky that I had an amazing GP in London who called it and sent me to, at that point, the one guy in the world in New Jersey who was the expert in that.” She called her stomach “ground zero” for her health issues.

‘You don’t want to be the last straw for somebody’

Even so, one follower implored her to eat something.

“Having just made a several slides post about how eating could actually kill me this is a little beyond,” Beckinsale lamented.

She reminded her fans that they do not “know what’s going on in people’s lives,” even if social media makes it appear otherwise.

Additionally, Beckinsale advised that it is “not necessary for everyone to know your opinion on what somebody else’s body looks like.” Real.

“Treat people just how you’d like to be treated yourself, give people a little grace. If you don’t have anything nice to say, maybe don’t say anything,” she urged. “You don’t want to be the last straw for somebody, you don’t want to be the thing that makes them more sick, just keep going, it’s not hard.”

Later, Kate Beckinsale was provoked by another commenter into saying that she would “delete everything except for the books I recommend.”

She was not bluffing.

Her Instagram account is no more.

Beckinsale’s profile photo is now a graphic, which reads: “‘Honey, what do you want to be when you grow up?’ ‘A threat to the new world order.’”

While we hesitate to speculate on what Beckinsale means by that, we don’t believe that she’s some sort of QAnon or Illuminati conspiracy theorist. She seems very frustrated and we hope that she feels better soon.

Alan Jackson Earns Major RIAA Certification Honoring His Legendary Career

Alan Jackson has officially reached another major milestone in his legendary career, with his recorded music catalog now totaling 85.5 million RIAA-certified units sold in the United States.

Jackson’s RIAA certifications span nearly his entire career, beginning with his 1990 debut album, Here In the Real World, and continuing through more recent releases, including his 2021 single “The Older I Get.” His latest achievement reflects more than four decades of music and includes certifications across his albums, singles and music videos.

The country icon’s long list of accolades now includes eight multi-platinum albums, seven platinum albums and three gold albums, as well as nine singles certified multi-platinum, platinum or gold.

To commemorate the news of his 85.5-million career certified units, Jackson was surprised with a plaque at his Last Call: One More for the Road – The Finale concert on June 27. The night found the country legend delivering a career-spanning setlist filled with fan-favorite hits, highlighting songs throughout his entire catalog, including many of his 35 No. 1 hits.

Before he took the stage for his final performance,  Riley Green, Miranda Lambert, Little Big Town, Jake Owen, Jon Pardi, Thomas Rhett, Lee Ann Womack, Luke Bryan, Cody Johnson, Lainey Wilson, Luke Combs, Eric Church, and Carrie Underwood each performed an Alan Jackson song in tribute to the country icon.

Between selling out the event with more than 80,000 attendees and receiving the plaque by the RIAA, it’s safe to say that Alan Jackson closed out his touring career on a high note.

“Alan Jackson has built a legacy through songs that have defined Country music for more than four decades, creating a lasting connection to generations of fans. We were honored to celebrate his impact on the music community, and his remarkable 85.5-million RIAA certifications,” says RIAA SVP Artist & Industry Relations Jackie Jones, who was joined at the event by RIAA Chief Policy Officer Morna Willens.

The plaque now has a permanent home at Alan Jackson’s Silverbelly Whiskey Distillery and Museum, a new dual-themed facility in downtown Nashville where fans can explore the country star’s beloved career while also experiencing his Silverbelly Whiskey brand.

Jackson’s music also saw a significant boost following the concert. According to Luminate, his catalog generated more than 8.1 million streams in the two days after the show, marking a 32% increase compared to the same period the previous week, with some individual songs seeing gains of up to 79%.

Fans will have the chance to relive Alan Jackson’s all-star concert during the NBC TV special, Alan Jackson: The Last Show, set to air this December. Plus, he will be preserving the event in a new album, Last Call: One More for the Road – The Finale (Live from Nashville), which is already available for pre-order.

NASCAR Power Rankings: No Wins, No Problem; Christopher Bell Takes Top Spot

Christopher Bell has finished second in four of the last five races. That string of solid performances puts him at the top of this subjective power ranking list. I know, I know, he hasn’t won. And Ty Gibbs has a win, a third and two fourths over the last six races. But Bell’s run over the last five races shows that he’s right there challenging for the win every single week. Here are my NASCAR power rankings heading into the Saturday night race at Richmond Raceway: Dropped out: Ryan Preece (Last Week: 9), Carson Hocevar (Last Week: 10) On the verge: Josh Berry, Chase Elliott, Carson Hocevar, Brad Keselowski, Kyle Larson, Ryan Preece Buescher finished 13th but slips into the top 10 — thanks to a 10th, an 11th and a 13th in his last four races. With so much parity, three top 10s in four races puts him on this list. Maybe I just don’t have the heart to drop Reddick off the list. He has a series-high five wins and that has to mean something. But Reddick is trying his best to fall off this list with four finishes of 30th or worse in his last six starts. Welcome back on the list, Willy B! A ninth-place finish might be what’s expected for someone from Hendrick, but as the best Hendrick car at Iowa, it shows he is doing something right. Logano finished second in both stages at Iowa but a loose wheel when he started to drive away on a pit stop forced him to put the car in reverse to return to his pit stall and lose valuable spots. With no cautions in the final stage, he never recovered. A speeding penalty hurt Wallace, but he still placed 12th at Iowa. In a feast-or-famine season, this was closer to feast for Wallace. Briscoe overcame brake issues over the weekend to place sixth. It was his fifth top-six finish in his last six races. Blaney jumped a couple of spots after winning the pole and placing third at Iowa, where he led a race-high 129 laps. It was his first top 10 in three weeks and his series-high 16th of the season. Gibbs earned his second victory of the season with the triumph at Iowa. He is more consistently running in the top five, and if he does that, this won’t be his last win of the year. Hamlin rallied to finish fifth despite not having confidence in his brakes throughout the race at Iowa. He has a big lead in the point standings and has four top fives in the seven races since his last win. Some would say he should remain atop this list. It’s rare to have a non-winner atop the list this late in the season. But Bell has seven second-place finishes this year, including four in the last five races and six of the last 11. Some would say he’s the first loser, but he won’t be a loser much longer if he keeps knocking on the door.Latest Sports News from FOX Sports

Suicide Basin is full, Juneau is in ‘Set’ Phase of ‘Ready, Set, Go’ emergency framework

Mendenhall overview from the National Weather Service

NOTN- The city of Juneau has entered a heightened state of readiness after officials confirmed just this morning that Suicide Basin is full, meaning the anticipated Glacial Lake Outburst Flood in the Capitol city could happen at any time.

“We call this the set phase, where people should be prepared to evacuate.” Said Mayor Beth Weldon, “But it could still be days, if any. We’re all getting used to this. It could be within 24 hours, or even as much as five or six days until the basin releases.”

Weldon said the timing of any potential outburst flood remains uncertain. The City is in the “Set” phase of it’s ‘Ready, Set, Go’ framework, which means residents affected by the GLOF should stay vigilant and continue to check in with emergency officials, have a go bag packed and be ready to activate a plan of safety.

According to the National Weather Service,  in the past it has taken up to 6 days for the main event to start after the basin is full.

City officials urged residents to closely follow evacuation notices and stay away from flood control structures, particularly the Hesco barriers along vulnerable stretches of riverbank.

“Please do not climb up on the Hesco barriers,” Weldon said. “If they fail, it’s going to be catastrophic, and they could fail in a moment’s notice. You will not have time to run or move.”

if you have any questions, you can call the flood hotline at 907-500-0890 for information and updates.

“Everybody, try and be safe, and please abide by the evacuation notice,” Weldon said. “Again, everybody stay safe.”
