Shivon Zilis, Mother of 4 of Elon Musk’s Kids, Says She Was Abruptly Dumped, …

Reading Time: 2 minutes

World’s richest man Elon Musk has added another shocking breakup to his already complicated relationship history.

Shivon Zilis, the tech executive who shares four children with the billionaire, revealed Friday that Musk abruptly ended their romantic relationship — and she says she never saw it coming.

“It’s hard to go from in love to let go in a week with no warning, but that’s just how it is sometimes,” Zilis wrote in a lengthy post on X.

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, and Shivon Zilis, a venture capitalist, arrive at Mar-a-Lago on February 1, 2026 in Palm Beach, Florida.

According to Zilis, she and Musk were still very much together just days before their relationship suddenly came to an end.

In fact, Zilis shared screenshots of what appear to be some of their final text exchanges.

On September 24, she told Musk it was “really wonderful” to see him for breakfast and added, “Love you very much.”

“Love you too,” Musk replied (via People).

He also apparently told Zilis that he had not realized he could have invited her to a recent White House state dinner for Chinese President Xi Jinping.

“Aw,” Zilis responded. “That means so much to me. Thank you.”

A few days later, however, Zilis posted a cryptic message on X: “New day, new life.”

Now we know why.

Zilis and Musk share four children: twins Strider and Azure, born in 2021, daughter Arcadia, born in 2024, and son Seldon, whose birth was announced in 2025. Their relationship had remained relatively private until recent years.

Despite the abrupt split, Zilis did not appear interested in trashing her former partner.

Instead, she offered a complimentary assessment of Musk, writing that she was grateful she had been able to make him feel “deeply understood, nurtured, and peacefully loved with stability and gentleness.”

She also described their home and family as a “safe space” for Musk, saying it was filled with “happiness and love, not war.”

“I’m hurting, but care deeply about E and will always be cheering for his happiness,” Zilis wrote.

“God speed, Elon, the world is lucky to have you.”

Zilis added that she hopes she and Musk can remain friends and co-parents.

Musk, meanwhile, has not publicly explained what prompted the sudden breakup. His representatives did not immediately respond to People’s request for comment.

For now, Zilis appears to be doing something that might be considerably harder than ending a relationship with Elon Musk:

Trying to explain how a romance went from “Love you too” to over in roughly a week.

We will have further updates on this developing story as new information becomes available.

10 Biggest Risers, Fallers In 2027 NFL Draft: Is QB Drew Mestemaker A First-Rounder?

One of the many lessons I’ve learned as I’ve evolved from a strictly online NFL draft analyst to a professional scout who attends summer workouts on college campuses and games throughout the fall is that only occasionally do prospects surprise true talent evaluators and dramatically change their stock over the first month of the season. But that is the case with the 10 prospects listed below. These players have either answered key questions to boost their stock or have stumbled out of the gate. Either way, scouts will be keeping a close eye on their progress as the 2026 college football season unfolds and we progress toward the 2027 NFL Draft. RISERS Just ask the Oregon Ducks how quickly QB Drew Mestemaker has made an impression. The wunderkind redshirt sophomore combines prototypical size and rare athleticism for the position with a strong and accurate arm, but he comes with very limited experience after serving as a backup throughout his prep career. Still, with a dazzling performance to upset Oregon in mid-September and an impressive win on the road versus West Virginia this past week, Mestemaker has risen from a curiosity to a legitimate early-round candidate. With so much attention heaped upon Oregon’s flashy skill-position talent on offense and a defensive front that will have at least four players selected in the 2027 NFL Draft, burly right guard Dave Luli has flown relatively under the radar. He plays with the physicality one might expect given his 6-foot-3, 332-pound frame, boasting a first punch that former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson would appreciate. But Luli is more than just a brawler. He’s also quick off the snap and shows good lateral agility to mirror in pass pro. Guards rarely earn anything higher than a Day 2 grade, but Luli has the look of an early and effective NFL starter. USC offensive tackle Elijah Paige doesn’t get much attention from media or even draft fans, but scouts recognize him as one of the more intriguing pass blockers in the country. At 6-foot-7, 315 pounds, Paige is absolutely massive. And, unlike many of the other top-rated tackles in the 2027 class, he has the requisite arm length and agility to remain at left tackle in the NFL — where each of his 24 career starts have come at USC. Paige has barely allowed edge rushers to even get close to star quarterback Jayden Maiava, surrendering just two pressures and zero sacks through the first four games. This past January, linebacker Sammy Omosigho transferred to UCLA after struggling to crack the starting lineup for three years at Oklahoma. Today, he is one of several breakout stars for the upstart 4-0 Bruins, leading the country with four forced fumbles, including the timely punchout against Purdue shown below. An explosive athlete who closes with jarring force, Omosigho routinely generates the kind of bone-rattling hits that knock ballcarriers to the turf immediately and force scouts to sit up and take notice. He has also impressed with his pre-snap diagnostic skills and communication, With three punt return touchdowns a year ago, Vicari Swain entered the 2026 season already well known, earning third-team All-SEC accolades from league coaches. And he’s only reinforced that impression so far this season, taking back two more punts for touchdowns to break Dickie Harris’ 55-year mark at South Carolina. Scouts knew Swain had the vision, courage and speed to excel as a returner, but it is his improved recognition in coverage and physicality as a tackler this season that really has his stock climbing. FALLERS There may not be a quarterback in the country with a more tantalizing combination of physical talent and intangibles than South Carolina’s LaNorris Sellers, but he made several critical errors in a 49-18 beatdown by Alabama last week that will force scouts to question whether he’ll ever play with the consistency needed to start in the NFL. On the interception shown below, for example, Sellers fails to account for the underneath defender, resulting in a catastrophic pick-six that extended the Crimson Tide’s lead to 35-3. This game was the 28th start of Sellers’ career. While his film is full of highlight-reel plays that suggest he could become an All-Pro one day, there are just as many lowlights. Coaches expect to see improvement as players gain experience, and Sellers’ touchdown-to-interception ratio has actually worsened throughout his career (18:7 in 2024, 13:8 in 2025, 6:4 this year). After rushing for 18 touchdowns while averaging a gaudy 7.73 yards per carry over his first two seasons at Louisville, Isaac Brown looked like a shoo-in to be one of the first five running backs selected in the 2027 NFL Draft. But the sledding has been much tougher so far this season, with his yards-per-carry dropping to a pedestrian 4.1. Brown added weight during the offseason to give him a better chance at being a true bell-cow runner, jumping from 186 to 198 pounds, and he still possesses enough burst to create big plays. But in doing so, he’s lost a bit of the explosiveness that made him so dangerous. Xavier Chaplin was thought to be a future first-round pick after earning All-American honors as a redshirt freshman at Virginia Tech back in 2023. Alas, he didn’t look like one against Alabama two weeks ago, surrendering multiple pressures. Even for a player of his mass (6-foot-8, 346 pounds), Chaplin looked heavy-footed and off-balance, struggling to handle the Crimson Tide’s speed rushers and counters. The Seminoles face some terrific edge rushers in the coming weeks, including road games at Louisville (Clev Lubin) and Miami (Damon Wilson II) before a home game against Clemson and star defensive end Will Heldt on Halloween night. Jyaire Hill entered the season as one of my favorite cornerbacks, but he really struggled last week against Iowa, missing a couple of tackles and allowing four receptions — each of which resulted in either a first down or a touchdown. NFL teams are always in search of tall cornerbacks, but they must possess the loose hips and quick feet to change direction in a flash. Hill has struggled with that, too, often guessing on routes and leaving receivers with plenty of space to make plays on critical downs. Although Hill didn’t give up the last-second touchdown that clinched Iowa’s stunning victory, he was badly beaten inside by the same receiver (Reece Vander Zee) earlier in the game for this score. Two weeks ago, safety Ty Benefield was left lunging at air a few times in LSU’s emotional loss to Ole Miss, raising concerns about where he’ll fit best in the NFL. Scouts are intrigued by the 6-foot-3, 215-pounder’s speed and physicality, but the position is called “safety” for a reason. Benefield will need to take safer angles in pursuit and show better wrap skills — rather than just relying on his knockdown power — if he is to develop into the top-100 candidate LSU hoped when luring him to the SEC after he began his career at Boise State.Latest Sports News from FOX Sports

702’s ‘No Doubt’ Gets 30th Anniversary Vinyl Release

702 No Doubt

702’s debut album No Doubt is coming to vinyl in celebration of its 30th anniversary. The album will be released October 16 as a limited-edition transparent Clearwater 2LP, bringing the Las Vegas R&B group’s 1996 debut back to physical format three decades after its original release. The expanded vinyl edition includes the album’s original tracks alongside three additional mixes: “Steelo Remix,” “Steelo (Cali Mix),” and “Get It Together (Lush Mix).”

Originally released on October 8, 1996, No Doubt introduced 702 with a collection that paired R&B vocal harmonies with hip-hop-influenced production. The album featured contributions from producers and songwriters including The Characters and Donell Jones. Among its best-known tracks are “Steelo,” featuring Missy Elliott, and “Get It Together,” which became one of the group’s early signature songs. No Doubt reached No. 82 on the Billboard 200 and was later certified Gold in the United States.

MLB Postseason: Why Each Team Will Win The World Series, And Why They Won’t

If your team has reached this stage of the MLB postseason, there’s a good chance you’re also thinking: Could this be the year we finally win the World Series? Or, if you’re a Dodgers fan – could we really make it three in a row? Each of the eight teams left has its own strengths and weaknesses, some more than others. It’s now time to see if these World Series hopefuls can capitalize on what got them to this stage, or whether their pitfalls will send them home. Let’s break them down, starting with the National League teams before diving into the American League contenders. NATIONAL LEAGUE 2026 Record: 94-68, 1st in NL EastWorld Series Odds: +1600 (bet $10 to win $170 total) NLDS Opponent: Los Angeles Dodgers Why They Will Win The World Series: Their combination of star power, elite performance against .500 teams and resilience in the face of significant injury challenges makes this Braves team a true World Series contender. Atlanta was dominant against the Dodgers this season, going 5-1 against the reigning back-to-back champions. They’ve been solid in one-run games and in extra innings, pointing to their battle-tested mentality entering October. Plus, this is one of the best bullpens the Braves have taken into the playoffs in recent years. Closer Raisel Iglesias and high-leverage relievers Dylan Lee, Didier Fuentes, and Dylan Dodd have all had excellent seasons, and Robert Suarez is back from injury, making an already dominant group even stronger. Why They Won’t Win The World Series: The Braves’ offense is a little too inconsistent and struggling in important areas, weakening the club’s chances of a deep postseason run. It’s less than ideal that the Braves had the third-worst walk rate in MLB during the regular season, which makes them too prone to chasing pitches outside the zone, and that can be exploited all too easily by dominant pitching staffs in a short playoff series. The offense has been sporadic at times, and the lineup is lacking a top-30 hitter in the majors, unlike other serious World Series contenders. He sets the tone every time he takes the hill, whether it’s from the bullpen to close out a do-or-die game as he did on Thursday against the Phillies to clinch an NLDS spot, or it’s for a start against the almighty Dodgers. Keep an eye on Sale’s career 5.83 postseason ERA. 2026 Record: 100-62 (1st in NL West; 2nd in NL)World Series Odds: +200 (bet $10 to win $30 total) NLDS Opponent: Atlanta Braves Why They Will Win The World Series: Is there any pitcher in baseball you trust more in October than Yoshinobu Yamamoto? Behind him, the Dodgers will have two multiple Cy Young Award winners in Tarik Skubal and Blake Snell. Shohei Ohtani is back to lead the offense, and Freddie Freeman has already demonstrated his ability to take his game to another level in October even when he’s not 100%. Perhaps most encouraging is the recent play of Mookie Betts, Kyle Tucker and Teoscar Hernández. After struggling offensively all year, all three are finding their rhythm at the right time. The Dodgers’ starting pitching advantage can mask any other issues with their roster (as their starters demonstrated last year), and they’ll be able to bump Roki Sasaki, Justin Wrobleski and Emmet Sheehan into relief roles in October. This group is battle-tested, flipping a switch in September again and will be the favorites to three-peat for a reason. Why They Won’t Win The World Series: The age of the Dodgers’ roster was evident throughout the second half. Ohtani, the engine that makes this machine go, won’t be 100% this year and hasn’t looked like himself offensively since July. Freeman’s knee is acting up and has sapped his power in recent months. Fellow All-Star Andy Pages is coming off a fractured hand, and who knows how long it will take for him to look like himself again? They beat up mostly on bad teams in September, but they have a losing record against teams at .500 or above this year and looked unimpressive for months. And as much as they would like to lean on their unbelievable rotation, a late-season groin issue for Snell and some September shakiness from Tyler Glasnow threaten to cause problems for their greatest October advantage. Considering their bullpen also looks unstable again, and they may not have a set closer in the postseason, any of those concerns could end their hopes of a three-peat. After looking like the MVP favorite again in the season’s first half, injuries to Ohtani’s left knee and right biceps forced him to stop pitching after July 3 and turned him into a mere mortal at the plate after the break. The Dodgers are hopeful his September injured list stint, plus the break after a first-round bye, will have him looking like himself again at the plate. If he’s not, that could spell trouble. 2026 Record: 103-59 (Best in MLB)World Series Odds: +500 (bet $10 to win $60 total) NLDS Opponent: San Diego Padres Why They Will Win The World Series: They’re the best team in baseball. At some point, that has to mean something, right? The Brewers do all the little things well. Their offense gets on base, hits for average and consistently produces with its scoring opportunities. Outfielder Jackson Chourio, second baseman Brice Turang and first baseman Jake Bauers are more impactful hitters this year than any of their top bats were last season, and catcher William Contreras looks like a completely different force offensively over the last month. Milwaukee gets a first-round bye, and then it has the most unhittable starting pitcher in baseball ready to go for Game 1 in Jacob Misiorowski, who’s a different beast than he was last season as a rookie. For Game 2, they’ll have another strong arm in Logan Henderson, who has a 2.22 ERA in 11 second-half starts. The Brewers pitching staff has the lowest ERA in the National League, and they can shift some of their rotation depth arms into relief. It’s a complete unit and Milwaukee’s best chance to return to the World Series for the first time since 1982. Why They Won’t Win The World Series: Have we already seen this movie before? The Brewers have now won the division four straight years, but that hasn’t translated to October success. They didn’t spend big on another impact bat who could help an offense that looked overmatched against the Dodgers in last year’s NLCS, and they’ve hit the fewest home runs in the National League. That’s not typically a recipe for postseason success. Each of the last six World Series winners ranked in the top five in MLB in home runs, and each of the last 10 World Series winners ranked at least in the top half of baseball in the category. Remember: The Brewers swept the regular-season series against the Dodgers last year. We know what happened next. In addition, with Kyle Harrison’s struggles of late, the depth of the starting rotation behind Misiorowski and Henderson is suddenly a major question. You want pitchers who can miss bats in October. No starter in the sport does that better than Misiorowski, who surrendered the lowest opponent batting average (.157) and the second-highest strikeout rate (37.9%) ever for a qualified MLB starter over the course of a full season. 2026 Record: 91-71 (2nd in NL West; 4th in NL)World Series Odds: +1100 (bet $10 to win $120 total) NLDS Opponent: Milwaukee Brewers Why They Will Win The World Series: Sometimes it’s just about getting hot at the right time. While steamrolling the Cubs in the wild-card series, they showcased everything that makes them a title contender. After a slow start to the season, right fielder Fernando Tatis Jr. and center fielder Jackson Merrill look like superstars again. First baseman Ty France has been a steady force all season in a career year, and late-season upticks from third baseman Manny Machado and shortstop Xander Bogaerts provide more reasons for encouragement with the offense, which was at its best in September. As a team, the Padres are playing their best ball at the right time. And if they get a lead in the middle innings come October, the game should be over. The Padres have one of the most intimidating bullpens in the game, led by All-Star closer Mason Miller, who has been the best reliever in the sport. Why They Won’t Win The World Series: They might have the worst rotation in the playoff field. The additions of starters Casey Mize and Robbie Ray were supposed to fix the problem, but both additions have ERAs over 5.00 since joining the Padres. And as good as the offense has looked lately, this is a group that ranked dead last in OPS before the All-Star break and did nothing at the deadline to fix the offensive depth concerns. You can almost directly tie the team’s turnaround to Tatis’ turnaround. In the season’s first half, he had five home runs and the Padres were 48-48. After the break, he had 20 home runs and the Padres went 43-23. They’ll go as he goes. AMERICAN LEAGUE 2026 Record: 84-78 (2nd in AL Central; 5th in AL)World Series Odds: +1100 (bet $10 to win $120 total) ALDS Opponent: Cleveland Guardians Why They Will Win The World Series: Beware a young team with nothing to lose. No one expected the White Sox to be in this position, just a year after losing 100 games. Now, they’re playing with house money. Home runs win in October, and the White Sox have a number of hitters who can change a game with one swing. First baseman Munetaka Murakami, third baseman Miguel Vargas and right fielder Colson Montgomery all hit at least 30 home runs during the regular season, while outfielder Sam Antonacci and second baseman Chase Meidroth give the team two more above-average bats in the lineup. Rookie lefty Hagen Smith has been a revelation in the bullpen, and manager Will Venable has a number of options to go multiple innings, which can mask some of the team’s starting pitching deficiencies. But it’s the offense, which scored the most runs in the American League, that gives this youthful club a chance to shock the world. They also might have divine intervention. Why They Won’t Win The World Series: They don’t have enough starting pitching, and the all-or-nothing offense — the White Sox ranked fifth in MLB in both homers and strikeouts — was trending the wrong way toward season’s end. They stopped slugging or hitting much at all in September, but it’s their pitching that’s the more glaring October problem. Chicago’s starters have been among the least productive in baseball, and things only got worse in the rotation after the All-Star break. The deadline addition of Luis Castillo did nothing to help, and the bullpen arms started to look tired down the stretch after throwing more innings than any team in MLB by a wide margin. They found their energy again in the wild-card series in Houston, but a magic summer on the South Side could turn into an ominous autumn if their arms get gassed in a longer series. The fact that the White Sox stormed through Houston without Vargas recording a hit in the wild-card series is a testament to the depth of their lineup. But they’ll need the All-Star third baseman, who led the team in runs, RBI and OPS this year, to get going if they want to continue further. 2026 Record: 85-77 (1st in AL Central; 4th in AL)World Series Odds: +1100 (bet $10 to win $120 total) ALDS Opponent: Chicago White Sox Why They Will Win The World Series: Death, taxes and the Guardians making a late-season push. The rookies are here to play. Outfielder Chase DeLauter and second baseman Travis Bazzana provided a jolt to the lineup, and lefty Parker Messick is already one of the best starting pitchers in the American League. The offense looked more potent after adding Jo Adell and Nathaniel Lowe at the deadline, and outfielder Steven Kwan seemed like himself again following the All-Star break. There might be just enough offense here to envision a deep run, given the arms they have at their disposal. Their bullpen is again one of the most dominant in baseball, leading MLB in strikeout rate and WHIP, and is led by one of the best closers in the sport in Cade Smith, who looked untouchable down the stretch. Why They Won’t Win The World Series: Another year, same story for Cleveland’s weak offense. The Guardians’ lineup is again one of the least potent in the sport, and this time even third baseman José Ramírez is a below-league-average hitter. The seven-time All-Star hasn’t looked like himself all season, and a June hamate fracture certainly didn’t help matters. If he can’t find his superstar form, it’s hard to envision this offense having enough firepower to make any serious noise in October. There’s a lot on the shoulders of rookies DeLauter and Bazzana, and the offensive deadline additions don’t change the fact that this remains one of the least intimidating lineups in the postseason field. One year ago, DeLauter’s first big-league experience came in a do-or-die postseason game. Now, he has established himself as one of the best hitters in a Cleveland lineup that ranked 26th in OPS and needs his pop at the plate, especially after a down year from star Jose Ramirez. 2026 Record: 93-68 (2nd in AL East; 2nd in AL)World Series Odds: +500 (bet $10 to win $60 total) ALDS Opponent: Tampa Bay Rays Why They Will Win The World Series: They have the best starting pitcher in the American League, and a starting pitching staff whose biggest concern right now is former Cy Young winner Gerrit Cole. In other words, if Cole is the rotation’s only worry going into the ALDS, the Yankees are in excellent shape. Schlittler is all but a lock to win the AL Cy Young award after he lowered his season ERA to 1.95 in his final outing of the year. Schlittler has been so good for the Yankees that he’s receiving serious MVP consideration. And even outside of Schlittler, the combination of Max Fried, Carlos Rodon, Will Warren, Ryan Weathers and Cole has recorded the top rotation ERA (3.24) in the major leagues this season. If the Yankees make a deep run and end their 17-year championship drought, it will be because of their outstanding rotation. Why They Won’t Win The World Series: The unknown factors surrounding Judge’s second trip to the injured list and a bullpen that is overworked and lacking depth. Judge potentially missing the postseason with a calf strain isn’t the same as when the 2021 Braves won a championship without Ronald Acuńa Jr., who was injured from July for the rest of the season that year. Atlanta’s offense still ranked top 10 in most offensive categories without Acuña. The Yankees plunged to the bottom of the league this summer in most hitting stats without Judge. Judge is too important to these Yankees, who instantly play better when he’s in the lineup. Even though the Yankees picked up more slug at the trade deadline by acquiring a pair of power hitters in second baseman Luis Garcia Jr. and outfielder Heliot Ramos, they don’t make up for the loss of Judge, one of the most prolific hitters of all time. The offense was terrific against an inconsistent Red Sox team in the wild card series, but they need any help they can get against a flawless Rays team. Anything the Yankees get from their three-time MVP will be an added bonus. Presuming the rest of the lineup continues to produce as it did against the Red Sox in the Wild Card series, all eyes will be on Judge to step up in high-leverage moments to put the Yankees over the edge. Keep an eye out for when he will be activated from the injured list (calf strain). 2026 Record: 98-64 (1st in AL East; Best in AL)World Series Odds: +800 (bet $10 to win $90 total) ALDS Opponent: New York Yankees Why They Will Win The World Series: The Rays are on the verge of locking up home-field advantage throughout the postseason, and they’re also nearly impossible to beat at Tropicana Field. Tampa Bay owns a remarkable 55-26 record at home this season, good enough for a .679 winning percentage that’s the best in baseball. Plus, the Rays are Ray-ing again. They’ve sustained excellent fundamentals, run prevention, small-ball, defense and heads-up baserunning throughout the season, which are all major reasons they spent the majority of the year in first place. Third baseman Junior Caminero is enjoying an MVP-caliber season, and he can be a true weapon for the Rays’ offense in October. As usual, Tampa Bay has the pitching depth to make a deep run. And if they win the division, which looks likely, that first-round bye will only help them reset and start the postseason stronger. Why They Won’t Win The World Series: They could’ve used another bat at the trade deadline. As impressive as Caminero, first baseman Jonathan Aranda and designated hitter Yandy Diaz have been for the top of Tampa Bay’s lineup, the bottom of the order has been a disappointment. A weak lower third of the lineup has burned the Rays before, in the 2023 wild-card series against the Rangers, where they were swept by Texas. This year, the Rays’ 7-8-9 hitters own an 84 wRC+ (17th in MLB) and a .345 slugging percentage (27th in MLB), and it’s far too easy to envision that dropoff in production becoming their playoff bugaboo. He started all 162 games at third base for the Rays, and his durability is a major reason Tampa Bay’s offense never took a step back this year. He wrapped his second straight season with at least 40 home runs (42 this year after belting 45 in 2025).Latest Sports News from FOX Sports

Tony Romo OUT at CBS Following Drunk Driving Arrest

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Is this a fair call by CBS, or is the network guilty of unnecessary roughness?

Three months after Tony Romo was arrested for OWI (operating while intoxicated) in his home state of Wisconsin, the football legend has been sacked from his broadcasting gig.

CBS announced today that upon further review, they’ve decided to part ways with their top analyst:

Tony Romo, CBS Sports speaks on stage during New York Upfront Partnership Event 2026 at Storied NYC on April 23, 2026 in New York City.

“CBS Sports and Tony Romo have mutually agreed to part ways,” CBS said in a statement obtained by Pro Football Talk.

“We thank Tony for his contributions over the past nine years and wish him the best moving forward. J.J. Watt will continue to partner with Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson on our lead NFL announce team for the rest of the season.”

Romo issued a statement of his own, in which he confirmed that the decision to part ways was a mutual one:

“I’m proud of what I accomplished at CBS Sports over the last nine years,” wrote the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback (according to PFT).

“I approached my role as a game analyst the way I’ve approached everything in my life — with a desire to win and be the best that I can be, I’m going to use this time to take a break, something I’ve never done before, and focus on my health and my family before moving on to my next opportunity,” Romo continued, adding:

“I am grateful for my time with CBS Sports and for the continued support of my family and friends, as well as the NFL community and fans.”

In the wake of his arrest, Romo admitted that he’d developed an “over-reliance” on alcohol.

He pled no contest to the charges and issued a lengthy statement in which he admitted fault but vowed to return to the broadcast booth.

“This morning, I faced a recent personal failure by pleading no contest to a civil offense for OWl in Wisconsin. I own this completely,” he wrote, adding:

“Multiple back surgeries ended my career earlier than I expected and left me with constant, debilitating pain. That pain led to a dependence on pain medication, and my efforts to get off those medications led to an over-reliance on alcohol.

“As I have taught my three young sons: when you fall short, you stand up and take full responsibility. This is an important first step. The harder and more important step is examining the path that brought you here and making the changes necessary to move forward.

“That path requires honesty. None of this is an excuse. These are my failures, and I take responsibility for them.”

For now, it seems that Romo’s planned return to broadcasting has been delayed indefinitely.

We will have further updates on this developing story as new information becomes available.

Top GOP groups retreat from North Carolina Senate race as hopes fade

Leading Republicans are pulling back from the North Carolina Senate race, sending a clear message: What was a top-tier battleground at the start of the cycle is no longer worth the money.

The foremost Senate GOP super PAC, Senate Leadership Fund, is pausing its future spending in North Carolina and instead launching a seven-figure ad buy in deep-red Kansas, according to one person familiar with the move. The news was first reported by Semafor.

The dramatic change in strategy — less than four weeks before the midterms — comes after SLF previously spent more than $30 million to boost GOP nominee Michael Whatley. It also comes as public polling has continued to show Whatley unable to close the gap against popular former Gov. Roy Cooper, the Democratic candidate.

Republicans are now deprioritizing a state that President Donald Trump carried in all three presidential runs, and that Democrats haven’t won in the Senate since 2008.

“We are all clear-eyed about where North Carolina stands,” said one national GOP operative working on Senate races, who like others in this article was granted anonymity to speak candidly.

SLF isn’t the only major GOP group shifting away from North Carolina as Republicans focus on other must-win seats and deep-red states, amid the Iran war, high fuel prices and other economic fallout of the war in Iran.

Earlier Friday, the Koch-aligned Americans for Prosperity Action left North Carolina off its $22 million list of future spending across key Senate contests, as POLITICO reported. Another major Republican group focused specifically on boosting Whatley — Old North Action — removed $6.5 million in ad reservations from North Carolina’s Senate race last month.

“Michael Whatley is a good man who took one for the team — but with states like Alaska, Kansas, and Texas requiring continued resource commitments, there is only so much,” said another national GOP operative working on midterm races. “Especially against a very popular former Governor in Roy Cooper.”

The National Republican Senatorial Committee is currently running coordinated ad reservations with six of its battleground candidates. Whatley in North Carolina is not one of them, according to data from advertising tracking service AdImpact.

NRSC regional press secretary Nick Puglia said in a statement that “Whatley will put North Carolina families first by cutting taxes and keeping criminals locked up.”

Whatley for months has struggled to boost his name ID against the much better-known Cooper. Some recent public polls show Cooper leading Whatley by double-digit margins. Private polling has also hardly budged, despite the recent influx of spending, according to a person working on the race.

Trump on Friday told reporters he was “worried” about Whatley, his handpicked candidate in the battleground race.

“He’s a great man, and I am worried about him. I hope he wins,” Trump said. “He’s a great man, he was a great leader for the whole Republican Party when I won, and he’d be a great senator.”

In a statement, Whatley spokesperson DJ Griffin said the team feels “confident we have the resources” to win in November.

“Roy Cooper recently said about federal elections in North Carolina, ‘Democrats are often ahead until they are not,’” Griffin said. “Undecided Voters who break late decide the election in North Carolina and the majority of those Late-Breakers typically go Republican.”

AFP Action and Old North Action did not immediately respond to a request for comment about North Carolina. SLF declined to comment.

SLF’s decision came as a shock to some, but not all, North Carolina Republicans — mostly because Senate Majority Leader John Thune has been scheduled to be in North Carolina for an event with Whatley on Thursday night. Thune ended up joining the event virtually, according to two people with direct knowledge of the matter.

For weeks, top Republicans acknowledged North Carolina may be slipping away. One Republican who attended a donor meeting with Senate Majority Leader John Thune and SLF during the Dallas convention told POLITICO that holding the state would be “tough.”

“The map has shifted a little bit, and to be fair, we knew that was going to be a tough one from the beginning,” said one GOP operative working on Senate races, granted anonymity to speak candidly about the landscape.

Democrats are not letting up, recognizing that the contest in the purple state could still be close.

“A Democrat has not won statewide federal office here in nearly two decades, and North Carolina is a 50-50 state,” Cooper campaign manager Jeff Allen said in a statement.

“We’re building a campaign to earn every vote and make sure North Carolinians know that Roy Cooper will fight for them, while Michael Whatley will continue to enrich himself at their expense,” Allen said.

One North Carolina GOP strategist said that while Whatley has been a “fine” candidate, the current political climate coupled with Cooper’s long record in the state may be too much to overcome. And while Republicans have repeatedly hammered Cooper on crime, he still has strong favorability ratings from his time as governor.

“He’s really kind of hard to paint as a radical, ’cause, you know, he’s like Aunt Martha. She’s just been there forever. And so it’s just very difficult to get any traction on that, because, you know, people say, ‘well, Roy’s okay,’” they said.

When told that SLF was moving money from North Carolina to Kansas, the strategist responded: “$6.50 diesel fuel will kick your ass.”
