Jason Aldean Scores 31st No. 1 Hit With ‘How Far Does a Goodbye Go’

Jason Aldean has just accomplished another major career feat. The country superstar has scored his 31st No. 1 hit on country radio with his emotionally charged single, “How Far Does A Goodbye Go,” topping both the Billboard and Country Aircheck/Mediabase charts.

The Georgia native’s latest No. 1 places him alongside country music icons like George Strait, Alan Jackson, and Luke Bryan, tying for having the fourth-most chart-toppers on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart since it began in 1990.

With this news dropping less than a year since securing his 30th No. 1 hit with “Whiskey Drink,” Aldean revealed that he is feeling all the emotions of disbelief and gratitude towards everyone who helped move this song up the charts.

He shared, “Man, I thought 30 was a milestone…now we’re sitting at 31 number one songs. That’s pretty wild. Thank you to country radio, my team, our streaming partners, the songwriters and every one of y’all who’ve listened and turned these songs into something bigger than we ever imagined.”

Jason Aldean has spent the past two decades building a career that includes 13 Top 10 country albums, 31 No. 1 hits on country radio, and a SoundExchange Hall of Fame Award, recognizing him as one of the most-streamed artists of all time. With more new music on the way and hits continuing to pour out, Aldean continues to prove he is a powerhouse in the country music scene.

“How Far Does A Goodbye Go” served as the first preview of Aldean’s new album Songs About Us, dropping April 24. Written by John Morgan, John Edwards, Kurt Allison, Tully Kennedy, the story offers a vivid depiction of the kind of raw heartache that erupts unexpectedly and leaves a man filled with a sadness he never saw coming.

Aldean takes on the perspective of a man who realizes his partner has left, claiming she needs space and is going to her moms to clear her head. Initially, the woman promised they would work things out, but “four days and three nights” later, he’s left alone with only a bottle, a pack of cigarettes, and his own thoughts. Throughout the track, he continues to let his feelings pour out while questioning whether this separation is permanent or just temporary.

“How far Does a goodbye go/ Is it down to a corner bar/ Or outta town in a getaway car/ If it’s on a map this cowboy’s gotta know/ Is it a couple miles away comin’ up the road or on a midnight train on a runaway track/ How far does a goodbye go/ Till it don’t come back,” he sings on the chorus.

Alongside the song, Aldean and his wife-Brittany co-starred in a heart-pounding music video that found them playing out the emotional turmoil of the storyline.

Fans have since gotten a further look into the upcoming 20-track album through other early releases like “Help You Remember,” “Hard To Love You,” and “Lovin’ Me Too Long.” The latest round of songs were unveiled last month when Aldean premiered “Easier Gone” featuring Brittany Aldean, “Her Favorite Color” and “What’s A Little Heartache.”

Amid his latest milestone, Aldean is bringing his Full Throttle World Tour Down Under with stops across Australia. For the first time the multi-platinum award-winning artist will also headline shows in New Zealand. The run kicks off its international leg Thursday, February 19 and will wrap up in Canberra, AUS on March 1.
