Marjory “June” Miller remembered for keeping family close, staying true to herself

A few years ago, June Miller decided it was time for a change. After 20-plus years of going by “June,” it was time to change back to her given name, Marjory. 

“She never even said why – it was just, all of a sudden, ‘nope, everybody’s going to call me Marjory now, stop calling me June, gotta make a change,’” said daughter Alexis Grant.

Marilyn Wilson remembered as “vault of knowledge and history”

Longtime Chilkat Valley resident Marilyn Wilson died June 26. She would have been 88 this month. 

Wilson was born Aug. 3, 1938, in Juneau to Norwegian mother Nancy Burke and Lingít father Ben Wright of Angoon. Marilyn was Teikweidí, brought in by the late Esther Shea of Ketchikan, and her Tlingit name was Gush gu ge’.
