Bryan Kohberger, University of Idaho Murderer, Seeks to Withdraw Guilty Plea

Reading Time: 2 minutes

In July of 2025, Bryan Kohberger was sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to the murders of four University of Idaho students.

The move enabled Kohberger to avoid the death penalty, but according to court documents filed on Monday, the 31-year-old former PhD student is now attempting to withdraw his plea.

Kohberger filed a handwritten petition seeking post-conviction relief, claiming he is innocent and alleging he was pressured into accepting a plea deal through “false promises and blatant disinformation.”

He argues his attorneys misled him about the strength of the evidence against him and the consequences of going to trial.

The filing comes one year after Kohberger pleaded guilty to the killings of Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin, as well as one count of burglary.

He was sentenced to four consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole.

According to legal experts interviewed by CNN, overturning that plea will be an uphill battle.

Under Idaho law, defendants seeking to withdraw a guilty plea after sentencing generally must show that allowing the conviction to stand would result in a “manifest injustice,” a high legal standard that is rarely met.

Claims of innocence or second thoughts alone are typically insufficient.

Experts also note that judges carefully question defendants before accepting guilty pleas, asking whether anyone has threatened or coerced them and confirming they understand the agreement. Kohberger told the court his plea was voluntary, making it more difficult to argue otherwise now.

In his petition, Kohberger also alleges his attorneys withheld information that could have helped his defense, including evidence involving unidentified hair recovered during the investigation. He further claims he was told that whether he was actually guilty was irrelevant so long as he accepted the plea deal.

Those allegations have not been substantiated in court, and prosecutors have not yet publicly responded to the filing.

The latest challenge has reopened painful memories for the victims’ families, many of whom believed the case had reached its conclusion after Kohberger’s sentencing.

For now, Kohberger remains in prison serving four life sentences without parole while the court decides whether his petition raises sufficient legal grounds to move forward. Although post-conviction challenges are common, experts say successfully overturning a guilty plea after sentencing is exceptionally rare.

We will have further updates on this developing story as new information becomes available.

Madison Beer & Justin Herbert: Engaged!

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Congratulations!

Pop singer Madison Beer has been linked to some major names in the entertainment world.

Professional athlete Justin Herbert has been her boyfriend since (at least) last year.

Now, the two have announced that they are engaged!

Congratulations!

On Tuesday, July 28, Herbert and Beer took to their respective Instagram pages to share the news.

The photos show the two together in what is clearly an engagement photoshoot.

Additionally, we see some woodworking that reads “Mr. and Mrs. Herbert.”

The caption on the photoset reads: “meet my fiancé.”

In the past, Beer has dated the likes of Jack Gilinsky and Brooklyn Beckham.

(Beer came out as bi about a decade ago, and has had relationships with women, though if she had any high profile entanglements, they kept things under wraps.

Her last major romance was Nick Austin, an internet personality.

As of October 2025, she and Herbert were in a romance. The public does not yet know when, officially, they began dating.

Good for them!

Herbert is entering his seventh season with the Los Angeles Chargers.

He is a star quarterback from a family that includes other professional athletes.

While he famously has not enjoyed much success in the playoffs, Justin is still young, and his prime playing days might still be ahead of him. Whatever the case, he’s already a winner in the game of love.

It’s clear that he’s one lucky guy!

Beer’s history is perhaps better known, at least in celebrity gossip circles.

She is a singer who rose to fame after Justin Bieber boosted one of her songs when she was only 13.

Being a child star had its burdens, especially when explicit photos of her leaked without her consent when she was still a teenager.

She’s now an adult in her late twenties, and has spent the past decade or so topping charts. (She also worked with Mattel to produce “We Are Monster High,” which is a niche piece of trivia.)

Our heartfelt congratulations go out to Beer and to Herbert on their engagement news.

NASCAR Power Rankings: Toyotas Rule While Joey Logano Surges

Indianapolis Motor Speedway was another weekend when Toyotas were strong, taking four of the first five spots. But Ford also put four cars in the top 10. The only Chevy in the top 10? Carson Hocevar. Granted, Kyle Larson had a flat tire and Chase Elliott ended up in a wreck, but that certainly impacted these power rankings. No Hendrick driver is in the top 10. They only have eight top 10s combined over the last eight races (Larson with four, William Byron two, Alex Bowman two and Elliott none). Here are my power rankings after the Brickyard 400 and headed into an off week before the season resumes Aug. 9 at Iowa. Dropped out: Kyle Larson (Last Week: 10), Shane Van Gisbergen (Last Week: 9) On the verge: Alex Bowman, Chris Buescher, William Byron, Brad Keselowski, Kyle Larson, Shane van Gisbergen Hocevar won the pole and finished ninth as the top Chevrolet finisher at the Brickyard. That’s two top 10s in the last three races for the No. 77. An eighth-place for Preece at the Brickyard gave him back-to-back top-10 finishes. He’s going to need to keep rattling off top 10s if he hopes to make The Chase. It was not a good weekend for Wallace, as he started 29th and finished 28th. But he does have four finishes of sixth or better in the last eight races, and few drivers are posting those solid finishes over that long of a stretch. Reddick was 10th at the Brickyard as he continues to try to find the magic from earlier in the season. He’s making a little bit of progress with two top 10s in the last three races. He is still the series leader with five victories this year. Blaney got wrecked (unintentionally) by John Hunter Nemechek and it didn’t just result in a 26th-place finish; it also resulted in Blaney finishing behind Todd Gilliland as they battled for the $1 million in-season tournament prize. But Blaney is still third in the series standings. Logano followed up his win at North Wilkesboro with a third. The three-time Cup champion probably can’t declare being back until The Chase, and that’s when the more traditional 1.5-mile tracks come into play. But at least it appears he’ll be playing in the postseason. Gibbs started fourth and finished 12th at the Brickyard. It was the second consecutive what-could-have-been day for Gibbs, but he continues to show speed and with no real signs of slowing down. Briscoe finished fourth at the Brickyard although probably wishes he had the last restart back, as it appeared he, Christopher Bell and Denny Hamlin weren’t in sync. But he’s moving up in the standings and has a realistic shot of being fifth by the time The Chase starts. Bell finished second … again. It was the sixth time this year and third time in the last four races. But he considered the Brickyard a good second-place finish. He arguably could be No. 1 on this list but really needs a win. A fifth-place finish last weekend gave Hamlin three top fives in the last four races and seven top fives in his last 10. He’s still the man to beat on ovals.Latest Sports News from FOX Sports

INDYCAR Unveils Sleek New Car For 2028: ‘There Is A Wow Factor’

INDYCAR unveiled renderings of its new 2028 car, which will start on-track testing this week. The drivers like the looks of its sleek INDYCAR feel and will soon get a chance to help test and make tweaks. “We all wanted a new, modern-day car that is lighter and looks futuristic and fast but still has all of the incredible safety advancements that INDYCAR is known for,” ECR driver Alexander Rossi said in a news release. “This does all of those things. “There are still a lot of things to work through in terms of on-track testing and how it reacts to the different types of environments it will be exposed to, but from a visual standpoint, it’s incredible.” The car is designed to go faster while also incorporating many of the safety elements implemented since the last car was first designed around 2012. Those safety and other elements added weight and the 2028 car is a fresh opportunity to overhaul the car to keep its INDYCAR style while also making it faster. That starts with the car, designed by Dallara, that will be 100 pounds lighter, including a reduction of 20 pounds of the hybrid system and 25 pounds of the gearbox. “I was just as excited to see what was inside the car as I was to see what it looks like on the outside,” Andretti Global driver and INDYCAR champion Will Power said in a statement. “INDYCAR and Dallara have done an incredible job combining updated aerodynamic ideas with all of the safety elements from the current car. It has a seamless look and one that’s also modern and aggressive at the same time.” In arguably the most impactful development from an engineering standpoint, teams will no longer make and develop their own dampers. On the current car, damper development is key to how the suspension handles because it was the primary area where teams had the most latitude. Series officials, in a news release, indicated teams will have a variety of options, including more spring, damper and inerter tuning options while using the single-source supplied parts. That potentially could tighten the field and create more parity with the teams having similar options. The engine will be a 2.4-liter, twin-turbocharged V6 internal combustion engine capable of producing up to 760 horsepower. That should produce some record speeds, potentially at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which should also see the benefit of a more aerodynamically stable speedway front wing. “There is a wow factor,” said defending Indianapolis 500 winner Felix Rosenqvist in a news release. “The first thing that struck me is that it has more room in the cockpit and will fit differently-sized drivers, which is really good. Secondly, it definitely has the INDYCAR DNA, which was a worry for me that it wouldn’t look like an INDYCAR Series car. “This definitely does. It also has an aggressive look with an integrated aeroscreen and a car that addresses a lot of little tweaks that drivers have asked for. Dallara has delivered on almost everything. I’m super excited for the future.” The exact dates and sites of testing will be announced soon. “Seeing the car for the first time made me even more excited about where INDYCAR is going,” said four-time INDYCAR champion Alex Palou in a news release. “The design is super cool and feels like a proper next step for the series while still looking like an INDYCAR Series car. “I think the fans are going to love it, and as a driver I cannot wait to get behind the wheel. The most important thing is that we keep the close, fun racing that makes INDYCAR special, and from what I’ve seen, we’re heading in a really good direction.”Latest Sports News from FOX Sports

Carter Faith, Laci Kaye Booth & Baby Nova Bring ‘Pearl Handled Pistol’ to Life in Cinematic New Music Video

Carter Faith, Laci Kaye Booth and Baby Nova are stepping into a new era with the just released music video for their collaboration, “Pearl Handled Pistol.” Directed by Lily Nelson and Chase Denton, the cinematic visual transforms the track into a suspenseful revenge story, perfectly capturing the song’s fearless spirit.

The video opens with the trio laying low in a roadside motel room, smoking cigarettes and casually flipping through a newspaper featuring the headline of a man’s murder. Rather than appearing shaken by the news, the three women remain remarkably calm, and continue lounging by the motel pool and hanging out in the room as if nothing out of the ordinary has happened.

As the story unfolds, clues begin to suggest they know more about the murder than they’re letting on. A pearl-handled pistol, the victim’s wallet with his ID, and a blood-soaked towel all point to their possible involvement. The biggest reveal comes when they crack open the trunk of a vintage red Mustang and stare down at what appears to be the victim’s body inside.

The three artists then make their way to a secluded spot, where they take turns digging a grave before marking it with nothing more than a simple cross topped with a Stetson, leaving viewers to draw their own conclusions about what really happened.

The video’s storyline mirrors the haunting warning woven throughout “Pearl Handled Pistol.” Written by Faith, Booth, Jessie Jo Dillon and Chris Tompkins, the devious track finds the three women detailing the consequences that come with underestimating a strong female, a heart pounding story reminiscent of The Chicks’ 1999 hit, “Goodbye Earl.”

Right off the bat, they make it clear, “Well my love comes with a warnin’/ And that’s a label you oughta read/ I’m a pear-handled pistol/ Don’t you fool around with me.”

That same fierce independence and unwavering confidence appears on the chorus, as Faith’s delicate vocals, Baby Nova’s bold, textured tone and Booth’s effortless notes combine to elevate the song’s cinematic storytelling.

“I don’t play I shoot straight/ John Wayne don’t need a chaser Texas ranger/ Honey, leather and lace/ Wrapped ’round this waist/ Throw another in the chamber/ If you like a little danger/ Well, cue the Morricone whistle/ Like smoke comin’ off twin fiddles/ I’m a pearl-handled pistol,” they sing.

Carter Faith explains it was Jessie Jo Dillon’s idea to write a song with this title and it didn’t take much convincing for her and Laci Kaye Booth to jump on that opportunity.

“When I think of badass women in country music, Laci is always at the top of my list,” said Faith. “I’m such a sucker for a female collab, and adding Baby Nova felt so perfect. There’s something so special, in my opinion, about a woman singing about herself in such an authentic and uncensored way. I truly love this song, but I couldn’t have made it what it is without the two of them.”

Booth remembers hearing the title alone and feeling as if the story needed to enter around a woman “standing in her own skin, drenched in confidence.”

“Those kind of songs have always given me life through second hand confidence. When thinking about other women in music whose own authenticity and sexiness also inspires and empowers me, Baby Nova was the perfect voice and artistic presence to bring on,” she added.

Meanwhile, Nova admitted she was “honored” to be asked to join this epic, female-led collaboration as Faith and Booth are two of her “favorite artists.”

“…getting to be part of this was a dream come true for me. Carter was one of the earliest champions of my own project, I’m talking a week or two after I dropped my very first song, so having this full-circle moment with her on Cherry Valley Forever is beyond special to me. I adore this song, but even more than that, Carter and Laci are two fiercely talented women I’m really proud to be coming up in this industry alongside. I just feel a lot of gratitude to be part of it.”

“Pearl Handled Pistol” appears on Faith’s deluxe album Cherry Valley Forever, which serves as the deluxe edition of her debut album, Cherry Valley. Out now via Gatsby Records/MCA, the expanded project adds five new tracks to the original record, including “Nothin’ Better To Do” with Wyatt Flores.

Fans can currently catch Carter Faith on the road with Post Malone as a supporting act on his U.S. Big Ass Stadium Tour. She is also gearing up to perform select dates with Chris Stapleton, Kacey Musgraves and Shaboozey throughout the year before launching on her newly announced “Cherry Valley Forever Tour.”
