Janelle Brown is standing up for herself.
In a sneak peek at the January 18 episode of Sister Wives, the veteran cast member dismissed the idea that she had a “backdoor deal” to sell Coyote Pass…the 14-acre Arizona property she, ex Kody Brown, Robyn Brown, Christine Brown and Meri Brown purchased in 2018.
(As a refresher, this property finally sold in April after going untouched by the family for years.)
“There was no backdoor deal,” Janelle emphasized to host Sukanya Krishnan in an E! News preview of the TLC show’s One-on-One special that will air this Sunday evening.
“There wasn’t. There was no backdoor deal. We were talking about ways to get the thing done.”
Instead?
The 56-year-old went after Robyn, claiming she was the one who delayed the original sale by allegedly asking everyone to sign NDAs at the last minute.
As Janelle put it, “Robyn had thrown this big rock.”
In the end, although the original buyer returned to purchase the piece of land after the first deal expired, Janelle said it was an overall challenging process — made more so by Kody and Meri, who she says on this special spent “a lot of time of just no communication.”
“I would call Kody every once in a while and text Meri once in a while and say like, ‘Guys, we have a ticking clock here. This is gonna expire in 60 days,’” Janelle recounted. “And they would be like, ‘Yeah, we’re working on it.’”
She labeled it one big and annoying “waiting game.”
As you might expect, though, Robyn has a different take on what transpired.
“Janelle was getting impatient,” she explained, stating that Kody had told her that he and Janelle were “talking about a backdoor deal where they sell the property out from under Meri.”
The 47-year-old said she pushed back on Janelle because she felt Meri was “in a very precarious situation” and wanted to make sure the sale was fair to everyone involved.
Coyote Pass was eventually sold for $1.5 million in early 2025… following a situation made ugly and complex because Kody is no longer in a relationship with Christine, Meri or Janelle.
According to Kody, it was very difficult to finally part ways with the property.
“I was getting frustrated enough to just sell the property,” the father of 18 said on the January 11 episode of One-on-One. “And then I’ll distribute money at my convenience.”

Chase Matthew is doubling down on his small-town pride with his new single, “Holdin’ It Down.” The highly anticipated track celebrates his roots and the people who keep those community values alive, a theme he says will run deep in his next album.
Penned by the rising country star alongside Alex Maxwell, Ethan Escue, Evan Mayo, Jordan Centers, and Presley Aaron, “Holdin’ It Down” paints a vivid picture of a place untouched by modernization, where four digits still make up the population, farmland is valued over pavement, dirt roads beat city streets every time, and lessons are passed down from generation to generation.
Instead of chasing change, the lyrics find Matthew standing his ground on the importance of maintaining tradition and legacy over anything else. At its core, “Holdin’ It Down” centers around the belief that a simple, familiar way of life is already “as good as it gets” and anyone who can relate should be proud of where they come from.
Throughout the entire delivery, the Tennessee native’s humble vocals blend his signature grit with a deep love for traditional country, while still tapping into his high-energy rock edge.
He sings, “Keepin’ them parking lot half-ton circled on up/ Still lightin’ that fire with a diesel filled cup/ Like my daddy done it and had his daddy did/ Still thinkin’ this way of livin’s gettin’ as good as it gets/ If you ever thought about never leavin’ your little town/ Keepin’ them roots in the ground, well, keep holdin’ it down.”
Chase Matthew recently caught up with Country Now prior to his performance in the beachside setting of Crash My Playa to reflect on the new release. In doing so, he shared why this is such an important song for him to share with his fans.
“It represents me well, and I think it also sends a message of you don’t have to leave your small town to be a hero,” he explained. “There’s plenty of small-town heroes in the small towns: The firefighters, the first responders, the guy that’s just making breakfast for everybody at the local mom and pop. And I can think of a few of those already. So yeah, man, if you’re from a small town, hold the pride in that.”
He also noted that while having “a lot of fun” during the writing process for “Holdin’ It Down,” he came to the realization that this was setting the foundation for what he wanted his next album to sound like.
Set to be released sometime this summer, the album is expected to further highlight Matthew’s roots and the sound he was raised on through heartfelt storytelling.
“There’re some songs on there that I’ve held onto for a while that mean a lot to me and I’m finally going to put them out,” he admitted. “I think it’s the right time to do it. And like I say with every album…there’s a song for everybody on there. So make sure you check it out. It’s coming out soon.”
Matthew is already starting out the year on a high note. In addition to his new music announcements, he was also named a member of the CRS New Faces Class of 2026 alongside Kelsey Hart, Ella Langley, John Morgan, Meghan Patrick, and Josh Ross.
“Man, that is such a cool title to see my name beside,” he gushed while reflecting on the honor. “All the artists that have came through there have just skyrocketed in their career. And I think seeing my name on that list beside all the other people that are coming up too is just really cool.”
Following his appearance at Luke Bryan’s 11th Annual Crash My Playa in Cancun, Mexico this weekend, Chase Matthew will continue with the Holdin’ it Down World Tour with stops across Michigan, Arizona, Tennessee, Iowa, Florida, South Carolina, and so many more before bringing it to a close in June.

The video of Renee Good being shot to death by an ICE agent has been circulating for over a week now.
But while tens of millions have seen and been outraged by the footage, we’re still learning new information about the events of that fateful day.
For example, a new report from The Minnesota Tribune indicates that Good suffered four gunshot wounds, not three, as previously reported.
The newspaper cites a fire department incident report from the day of the shooting.
The document states that Emergency Medical Service workers responded to a distress call and found Good slumped behind the wheel of her Honda Pilot.
The paramedics reported that Good’s face and torso were covered with blood.
She was not breathing and had only an “inconsistent” and “irregular pulse,” according to the report.
Good’s death, of course, was the flashpoint that ignited a volatile situation in Minneapolis, where civilians have been clashing with ICE agents for over a week now.
On Wednesday, federal agents shot one man and arrested two others during a chaotic altercation in the streets.
Both Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey have urged the Trump administration to turn down the temperature by withdrawing troops, but to no avail.
The president countered by threatening to invoke the Insurrection Act.
The agent who shot Good has been identified as a law enforcement veteran named Jonathan Ross.
Several members of the Trump administration have insisted that Trump was justified in using lethal force against Good.
The unrest in Minneapolis shows no sign of abating, and local officials say they can only hope that there’s no further violence.

We wish that this were a better health update.
Teddi Mellencamp has pursued aggressive treatments for her Stage 4 cancer, including brain surgery.
Last year, she shared positive news about her cancer battle.
Now, just a few months later, her famous father says that she’s “really sick” and suffering.
Unfortunately, the news isn’t good
On Wednesday, January 14, 74-year-old musician John Mellencamp did an interview on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast.
(Yes, that’s a weird thing to do, but the actual grim news that he has to share takes center stage over chatting with one of the worst influencers in the country)
During the chat, the rocker brought up his daughter, Teddi.
He shared that she is “really sick” amidst her battle with stage 4 brain cancer.
There was good news on that front last year, but she is currently “suffering.”
“It’s not f–king fun,” the musician understated about his daughter’s health battle.
“She’s got cancer in the brain,” he emphasized.
“And,” John continued, “she’s suffering right now.”
Teddi is 44 years old.
At this point, her cancer battle has defined her 40s.
He also described his parenting experiences
“That kid used to call me up and I’d go, ‘Teddi, you can have a thought without asking me if it’s … you know, figure it out yourself,’” John recalled fondly.
In terms of encouraging independence, he added: “You don’t have to ask me everything, you know?”
Teddi is the middle of John’s three daughters, all of whom are about a decade or so older than his two sons.
“Girls, at about 12 you lose them and then about 21 they come back,” he assessed.
John admitted: “I kinda lost mine.”
In 2022, Teddi revealed that she had received a diagnosis for Stage 2 melanoma.
(She has credited bestie Kyle Richards for encouraging her to get a spot looked at)
She underwent treatments to address the cancerous growth and appeared to be in the clear for a while.
Then, in April 2025, Teddi shared the bad news.
The cancer had spread, with tumors growing in her brain and lungs. That is Stage 4 cancer, and often terminal.
We hope that there’s better news soon
In October 2025, just six months after sharing that grim news (and only a few months ago), Teddi revealed that the cancer was “gone” after aggressive treatments.
However, no detectable cancer was not the same as no cancer. Doctors require years of clean tests before cancer is “in remission.”
It is unclear whether John meant that his daughter is suffering due to cancer, due to the after-effects of her cancer battle, or due to current cancer treatments.
Either way, she’s really going through it.
We wish Teddi a full recovery.
