Meghan Trainor Surrogacy Controversy Divides Social Media: ‘She Didn’t Want …

Reading Time: 3 minutes

As we previously reported, Meghan Trainor revealed today that she’s welcomed her third child.

Meghan and husband Daryl Sabara shared the news that their newest addition, a girl named Mikey Trainor, arrived via surrogacy.

And while most of the comments on Meghan’s announcement have been congratulatory and supportive, others have been critical of her announcement.

Speaking with People, Trainor, 32, explained that surrogacy was not her first choice, but after consulting with her doctors, she decided it was the best option:

“It wasn’t our first choice, but we had endless conversations with our doctors on this journey, and this was the safest way for us to be able to continue growing our family,” Meghan said.

“We are forever grateful for that option,” she continued, adding:

“I want people to know that surrogacy is just another beautiful way to build a family. It’s not something to whisper about or judge. It’s rooted in trust, science, love, and teamwork.

“Every family’s journey looks different, and all of them are extremely valid.”

Trainor went on to state that she had “an incredible” experience with the surrogate, who remains anonymous.

“Our surrogate is one of the most selfless, strong and loving people I’ve ever met. We felt so connected throughout the entire journey, and I’ll always be grateful for the care and love she showed our daughter,” Meghan explained.

“She gave us the greatest gift of our lives. She graciously answered our many check-in texts to make sure she was doing okay.”

Of course, surrogacy remains a controversial topic on social media, especially in the case of someone like Meghan, who had already had multiple children and is still of child-bearing age.

“I find this photograph viscerally offensive. Somewhere in the background the desperate woman who gave birth to this child is bleeding. The things that money can buy,” wrote one user.

“This baby’s life is a gift—but surrogacy is deeply disordered,” another tweeted, adding:

“Human beings are not products or commodities. No one is owed a child. Women’s bodies are not tools. We should not be buying and selling and using human beings like this.

Trainor recently lost a good deal of weight by using Monjauro, and many on X (formerly Twitter) believe that she didn’t want to “ruin her Ozempic body” by getting pregnant:

“Megan Trainor used a surrogate because she is on a GLP-1. So fucking selfish. Surrogacy is human trafficking and always will be,” wrote one such user.

Supporters of Meghan’s argued that she suffered complications during her first two pregnancies.

But in most cases, critics countered that if that’s the case, then she should have just stopped at two children rather than hiring a surrogate.

It’s a complex issue, and like so many complex issues these days, it’s causing heated debate on social media — despite the fact that no one is succeeding int changing anyone else’s mind.

Rahm Emanuel calls for mandatory retirement age for public officials — including him

Rahm Emanuel said Wednesday he wants to institute a mandatory retirement age of 75 for the president and across branches of government, a pipe dream of a call from the potential White House hopeful that would bar him from serving a second term as president.

“You’re 75 years old: done,” the former Chicago mayor and ambassador to Japan said Wednesday at a Center for American Progress event. “And that would be in the legislative branch, it’d be in the executive branch — including the Cabinet — and it’d be also in the Supreme Court, and all the federal courts.”

Emanuel, who is 66, would be 69 when sworn into office if he runs for and wins the 2028 presidential contest. He would be 73 at the start of his second term, and would, by his own standard, be unable to serve all four years. He acknowledged this when pressed by POLITICO at a Christian Science Monitor roundtable Wednesday afternoon.

“I know where I am in my age. Of course it would apply to me,” Emanuel said. “You can’t say ‘here’s what I want to do to change Washington, one of the things I want to do’ — but I get an exemption because I bought it beforehand.’”

His standard would make Donald Trump, 79, ineligible to continue serving as president. And it would have barred Joe Biden, under whom Emanuel served as ambassador to Japan, from serving his single term. It would also impact the 17 senators and 45 members of the House who are currently 75 or older.

“You can’t serve in the armed forces, you can’t serve in private sector jobs” at 75, Emanuel said. “Go work on your golf swing, it’s not that good to begin with.”

Emanuel is reigniting a debate that raged throughout the last presidential election as Biden, then 81, and Trump, then 78, each sought a second term — and as questions about Biden’s mental and physical stamina crescendoed. And it’s simmered for years on Capitol Hill as lawmakers confront mental decline and even death within their ranks.

Age limits are popular with voters who have balked in recent years at the advancing ages of the nation’s presidential contenders, lawmakers and Supreme Court justices. Roughly two-thirds of Americans support age limits for federal elected officials and the Supreme Court, polls show.

Emanuel, a former representative, said he would push for legislation to set the limit rather than attempt a constitutional amendment. (The Constitution sets a minimum age for members of Congress but not a maximum, and establishes no limits for the Supreme Court.) It’s not clear whether that legislation itself would be constitutional — and could be a tough sell in a Congress where the median age for senators is 64.

Emanuel framed the age limit as part of a broader call for “comprehensive ethics, lobbying [and] anti-corruption reform” across the federal government that he said should include a crackdown on lawmakers and judges taking gifts and stock trading. The veteran Democratic strategist said his party should be hammering that message as part of a midterms platform that also includes raising the minimum wage and instituting a bill of rights for ratepayers.

“You have a president of the United States, in my view, that has expanded, deepened the swamp. Our job is to drain the swamp as Democrats,” Emanuel said, turning Trump’s trademark phrase against him. “There’s not a day that goes by that you don’t read a story about either his family, [Commerce Secretary Howard] Lutnick’s family or [Special Envoy Steve] Witkoff’s family making money.”

Emanuel’s choice of 75 may have been influenced by his brother, Ezekiel Emanuel, a former White House adviser and oncologist who wrote in 2014 that he did not want to live past 75. In that piece, he wrote that his view “drives my brothers crazy.”

LISTEN: Morgan Evans and Laci Kaye Booth’s Chemistry Shines in New Duet, ‘Two Broken Hearts’

Morgan Evans is giving fans another taste of what’s to come on his highly anticipated sophomore album with the release of the hauntingly beautiful “Two Broken Hearts,” featuring the talented Laci Kaye Booth.

The newly released duet was written by Evans alongside Fraser Churchill and dives into the all-too-relatable story of two people who have been heartbroken and find their way to each other. They’re still on their healing journeys, but they find comfort in one another. They admit, “There’s nothing left of you / Left for me, left of me / That could be yours,” yet they hold onto the hope that they can navigate the pain together. Still, they acknowledge they’re not in a place to fully commit to each other…at least not yet.

“Two Broken Hearts find their way to each other/ Feeling their way through the dark/ Two Broken Hearts healing under the covers/ To keep them from falling apart/ Sometimes where it ends is where love starts again/ But we both know that ain’t where we are/ Just two broken hearts/ Two broken hearts,” they sing on the chorus.

“Two Broken Hearts” features minimal production, with harmonica, gentle guitar plucks, and subtle percussion supporting their voices.

Though the song wasn’t originally written as a duet, Evans said it became one after he realized Laci Kaye Booth was the perfect voice for it.

“This song still hits me like the day I wrote it,” Evans shared. “It wasn’t written as a duet, but Lace’s voice took it somewhere I couldn’t have imagined on my own.”

Evans and Booth aren’t just duet partners: they’re a real-life couple. They often share sweet moments and travel photos together on social media, and they even made their red carpet debut at the CMA Awards in November. Maybe that’s why the emotion in “Two Broken Hearts” hits so deeply: their chemistry is undeniable.

“Two Broken Hearts” joins “Beer Back Home” as the latest preview of Morgan Evans’ upcoming sophomore album, Steel Town, arriving March 20. Written during a reflective stretch in his hometown of Newcastle, Australia, the album captures Morgan tapping into a deep well of creativity. That time back home helped reset him and brought him back to Nashville with a renewed passion for making songs that connect with listeners around the world.

Taylor Swift Will Be Dragged Into Court as ‘Hostile Witness’ for Justin …

Reading Time: 4 minutes

Unfortunately, some things are unavoidable.

One of those things seems to be participating in Justin Baldoni’s legal war with Blake Lively.

That trespassing process server never reached her, but Taylor Swift’s still getting dragged into this.

Team Baldoni is hoping to treat her as a hostile witness.

This legal war is full of A-listers (and also Justin Baldoni)

According to a report by TMZ, Justin Baldoni’s legal team fully intends to drag Taylor Swift into the courtroom.

Deposition or no, his attorneys plan to call her as a hostile witness.

(She’s not going to like this — and, honestly, who would?)

Their position is that Swift’s alleged involvement in Baldoni’s dispute with Blake Lively is “clear,” she’ll have no choice in the matter.

The notion that their involvement is clear seems to stem from recent court filings.

For example, as we recently reported, Swift referred to Baldoni as “that bitch” in a 2024 text message.

It was not in a flattering, “100% that bitch” context.

Specifically, she wrote to Lively: “I think this bitch knows something is coming because he’s gotten out his tiny violin.”

At another point, Swift texted Lively: “If Justin was strategic, he would be like no Taylor Swift in the trailer because that gives you more power over the film, that’s your ally not his.”

Lively’s deposition acknowledged that she had, at one point, shared a script with Swift.

He has maintained that he did nothing wrong, and that this is about making a movie

Baldoni has seem convinced — perhaps genuinely — that the numerous complaints about his behavior, from sharing details about his penis with coworkers to improvising kisses on set, were not really about him.

His assertion has been that Lively wanted creative control over the film at any cost.

And he has also seemed to believe that Swift was a weapon — or at least, backup — in her efforts to coerce changes to the script.

It’s likely that there were genuine creative differences that had nothing to do with Baldoni’s behavior or sexual misconduct allegations.

But given how many women have echoed Lively’s concerns and made their own, separate complaints, this doesn’t look like a power play.

Like it or not, it is Team Baldoni’s job to convince the court — when this goes to trial, months from now — that things aren’t what they appear.

It seems likely that they will attempt to make it look like Lively spun a conspiracy to strongarm the film away from Baldoni (who was her co-star, director, and part of the production company behind it).

Whether they outright accuse Lively of lying (and thus, by extensions, other actresses including Jenny Slate and Isabela Ferrer) remains to be seen.

But it’s clear that Baldoni’s attorney, Bryan Freedman, plans to use Taylor Swift to make his case.

Whether she likes it or not.

What is a ‘hostile witness’ exactly?

If you’re wondering what a “hostile witness” is, you’re not alone. The term appears in popular culture, though often as a joke.

A hostile witness is a witness who disagrees with the attorney questioning them.

This can mean a witness who simply has a contrary opinion regarding the facts of the case or legal matters. But this can also mean a witness who is openly and directly adversarial.

Simply put, if you’re asking a regular witness something, they basically just have to reiterate what they already told investigators or what they already said in a deposition.

With Swift, Baldoni’s team plans to ask leading questions and verbally spar. It’s allowed, up to a point.

But the court may be more forgiving than Swifties. Watch out!
