Just Hand Jeremiah Smith The 2026 Heisman Trophy Already

Ohio State coach Ryan Day said the quiet part out loud. He was detailing how he coaches his queen, quarterback Julian Sayin, on the chessboard to assess coverage against his most valuable rook, wide receiver Jeremiah Smith. Like most problems in schematic American football, the equation can be solved with simple math. “If [Smith is] single-covered, he’s open,” Day said. “If he’s double-covered, he’s sort of open. If he’s triple-covered, he’s covered … somebody’s gotta be open somewhere else.” That part Day said with the slightest hint of annoyance. I can understand why. If three of the 11 defenders are allotted to one man, someone else is likely running more wide open than F1’s Kimi Antonelli on a push lap for pole. And we all know it’s a sin not to hit the open man — lest the wrath of Coach find you on film and smite thee with punishment for not taking care of the football. But this is Jeremiah Smith we’re talking about. While Smith technically might be covered if there are three men on him mid-route, we’ve seen Sayin throw him the ball anyway, and we’ve seen Smith come down with the rock. It’s as absurd to witness as it is for me to write, and yet it’s the truth. Some of the most outrageous things are. Most outrageous: Through five games, Smith has put up better receiving numbers than perhaps the best pure wide receiver to ever win the Heisman Trophy. Jeremiah Smith — the comfortable Heisman frontrunner in Week 6 — already has more receiving yards (823) and receiving touchdowns (nine) on fewer catches (44) than DeVonta Smith had (556 yards, four touchdowns, 45 catches) during his prolific 2020 Heisman campaign. DeVonta ended 2020 with 117 catches for 1,856 yards with 23 receiving touchdowns in 13 games. Jeremiah is on pace to shatter the numbers DeVonta put up with a 13-0 national championship Alabama team. Maybe the only caveat I’ll add is DeVonta played the four games of the season with former Alabama wide receiver Jaylen Waddle as the most productive wide out on that team. Before his injury on Oct. 24, 2020, Waddle had produced more yardage (557) on fewer catches (25) than DeVonta did and was my runaway favorite to win the Heisman. But after Waddle’s injury, DeVonta went from WR1 to WR1-and-only. His production followed suit. At Ohio State, everyone in Columbus — hell, across the country — knows Jeremiah Smith is the driving force of the receiving game for the Buckeyes. He’s unchallenged as the program’s most prolific and important wide receiver. Indeed, his arrival to the team dramatically enabled the Buckeyes to win the 2024 national title, and he made the game-clinching catch in the national championship game against Notre Dame to solidify that spot. He did that again last weekend against a then-No. 14 Iowa program that had one of the best scoring defenses in the entire country when he put up 11 catches for 206 receiving yards with two touchdowns. It was the kind of performance that might bring Heisman voters to the notion that they no longer need to worry about who they’re siding with as the best, most outstanding player in the sport. I know I’ve seen enough already this season: Smith has been the best player in the sport for two years, and he comfortably still is. That he did not win the Biletnikoff Award last year — robbing him of the chance to become the trophy’s only two-time winner — is a political travesty. If he does not win the Heisman this year, it won’t be because he doesn’t deserve it. It will be because the folks who quite literally write the history of the sport with their votes are too difficult and obtuse to acknowledge he’s already one of the legends of a sport that dates back to 1869. That trophy only makes us right when someone reads the history. Lord help us if he doesn’t.Latest Sports News from FOX Sports

Most candidates for Alaska governor pledge to live in Juneau if elected

Three of the four Alaska candidates for governor told a Juneau crowd they would live and maintain the seat of government in the state’s Southeast Alaska capital city at a forum in Juneau on Wednesday.

The candidates’ commitment signals the potential for a significant shift. Gov. Mike Dunleavy, who has served for eight years and cannot run again because of term limits, has maintained his primary residence in Wasilla and conducted state business primarily from Southcentral, with periodic trips to Juneau.

Democrat Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins and Republicans Bernadette Wilson and Dave Bronson expressed their commitment to Juneau while answering questions from the Juneau Chamber of Commerce about their views on the economy, business and state government relationships with private industry.

Republican Treg Taylor did not attend the forum due to scheduling conflicts, according to organizers. Taylor’s campaign did not respond to questions Wednesday about whether he would live and maintain his administration from Juneau, if elected.

The location of Alaska’s capital has long been debated and there have been  many attempts over the years to relocate the capital to the state’s population center of Anchorage. Juneau is landlocked and only accessible by plane or boat. Some say the state’s government would be more accessible to the rest of Alaska if it were located on the road system. Others say Juneau should remain the capital because it has been so since statehood, with state offices, workers and administrative functions established in Southeast. Many also say the cost of relocating the capital to Anchorage is impractical.

Moderators asked candidates what executive leadership, state agencies and investments would be maintained or expanded in Juneau, and whether their cabinet and commissioners would be expected to be based in the capital.

Kreiss-Tomkins alluded to Dunleavy’s lack of presence in Juneau, saying he would govern from Southeast. “I want to restore Juneau’s position as the seat of government, and have as many commissioners as possible living here,” he said.

“(In) Governor (Frank) Murkowski’s administration, and Governor (Tony) Knowles’s administration, that was a reality in Juneau, and people felt it. There was a degree of camaraderie and a degree of connectivity that I think have been lost in the years and administration since, and I want to restore that,” he said.

Bronson said he would require his commissioners to live in Juneau if their department is based in the capital. But he noted that he would be flexible for commissioners who may live elsewhere if they are well qualified: “If the talent says, ‘I live in Anchorage, I live in Fairbanks’ — our commissioner right now of DOT, Ryan Anderson, who was my former boss, he lives in Fairbanks. Are you going to lose talent to compel them to live here and change, uproot their lives that much? I don’t think so.”

Wilson joked that the left-leaning capital city would get a new registered Republican voter if her campaign prevails, and she noted the “gravitas” of hosting at the governor’s mansion. “There is a lot of influence within the four walls of that building that I think have very much been underutilized across the state of Alaska, and quite frankly, for the benefit of all of Alaska,” she said.

Wilson and Kreiss-Tomkins said they would plan to live in the governor’s mansion and host public events, guests and state business there. Bronson said he would commit to living there during the regular legislative session.

“I will live here, but I won’t be here all year,” Bronson said. “Because a lot of government is spread out throughout the state. And I’ve learned as a young lieutenant in the military — it’s called leadership by walking around — and walking around for government means getting in the car and driving around and visiting people throughout the state.”

Bronson’s views of Juneau have changed from his position several years ago. In 2019, Bronson co-sponsored a ballot initiative to move the regular legislative session to Anchorage, which state analysts estimated could cost up to $42 million. But the petition was not filed in time and failed to advance.

Bronson agreed Wednesday that the capital should be maintained in Juneau.

“So is Juneau the seat of government? Should it stay here? Yes, it is, and yes, it should.”

Britney Spears & Sons Visit Dolly Parton’s Theme Park for Family Outing: …

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Britney Spears is celebrating the legacy of Dolly Parton.

She’s also passing it on to the next generation.

After Britney visited Dollywood, the late cultural icon’s theme park, she shared photos of herself with her sons.

Both young men have grown up so much. And this family outing is so sweet!

Britney Spears & Sons visited Dolly Parton’s theme park, Dollywood

On Tuesday, October 6, the incomparable Britney Spears shared on Instagram that she went to Dolly Parton’s theme park with her adult sons.

Sean Preston, 21, and Jayden James Federline, 19, both looked more handsome than ever alongside their famous mother in Dollywood.

Britney shared a series of posts, some of which she shared on October 7, including videos from her visit.

The centerpiece has to be the photo of her sandwiched between her sons as they pose in front of a Dollywood sign.

Britney remained masked and less recognizable. And she’s so tiny beside her sons.

In the caption of one Instagram post, Britney actually wrote to detail her family outing.

“Wow wow!!!” she began.

“I didn’t know this place existed,” Britney admitted.

“So incredibly cool and exciting,” she praised. “But extremely hot and my skirt is too big for me.”

Britney raved: “Family outings!!! DOLLYWOOD IS ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE!!!”

She shared videos of her adventures, too

Some may express surprise that Britney Spears didn’t know about Dolly Parton’s very own theme park.

Dolly was a cultural institution unto herself. And Britney was a Louisiana girl from birth.

But Britney’s childhood was not overly cultured even though she was a Mouseketeer. She was catapulted to stardom as a teen and then put to work even before her conservatorship. She missed out on learning a bunch of stuff.

As for enjoying the theme park but not the weather … yeah, that’s Tennessee. That’s the American Southeast.

Yes, it’s October. But the weather can still hit 80 or above, with high humidity that must feel suffocating to someone accustomed to the desert climate of Southern California.

Other videos showed her riding a tilt-a-whirl, chatting with her sons, and saying “hi” to people who likely didn’t recognize her behind he mask.

It’s the sign of a good theme park when people can endure hellish weather and have a great time regardless.

As we said, her sons looked great, too. And it’s so sweet that they were able to enjoy a family outing together.

(By the way, did you know that Sean and Jayden — perhaps especially Jayden — have kicked off their modeling careers?)

We know that this family has been through a lot, from a conservatorship to an interstate move to some deeply hurt feelings. It’s inspiring to see them having a good time together.

Sydney Sweeney Related to Marilyn Monroe, Genealogy Test Shows

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Sydney Sweeney has often been compared to Marilyn Monroe, which makes sense:

After all, they’re both blonde bombshell sex symbols whose names are as alliterative as their job titles.

And now, it looks as though the icons — who were born about 70 years apart — are actually related by blood.

SAVANNAH, GEORGIA – OCTOBER 27: Sydney Sweeney poses for a portrait at the 28th SCAD Savannah Film Festival on October 27, 2025 in Savannah, Georgia. (Photo by Emma McIntyre/Getty Images for SCAD)

News of the unexpected connection comes courtesy of a report from genealogical research firm MyHeritage.

The study shows that the actresses are related through Sydney’s dad, Steven Sweeney, and Marilyn’s dad, Charles Stanley Gifford.

Of course, if you go back far enough, just about everyone is related.

And in the case of Sydney and Marilyn, you have to go back pretty freakin’ far.

The actresses’ fathers are both descended from an early Massachusetts settler named Ezra Perry.

Perry lived in the 1600s in Sandwich, Massachusetts, meaning Sweeney and Monroe have to travel quite a few branches down the family tree before they get to their connection.

So, no, Sweeney isn’t exactly getting calls from Monroe’s immediate family. But the connection is legitimate, according to MyHeritage’s research.

“People have always drawn parallels between Sydney Sweeney and Marilyn Monroe, but seeing their paths align on a deeper level inspired us to look for a real bond in the MyHeritage archives,” MyHeritage Director of Research Roi Mandel tells Page Six.

“Uncovering their shared branch was incredible,” Mandel added, calling the discovery a reminder of how interconnected family trees can be.

And considering how frequently Sweeney has channeled Monroe over the years, the news is almost suspiciously perfect.

In February, Sweeney appeared at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival wearing a vintage Ceil Chapman gown that looked remarkably similar to the dress Monroe wore on the cover of Life magazine in 1952.

Sweeney also gave fans some serious Monroe vibes at the Los Angeles premiere of The Housemaid in December 2025.

The actress wore a custom white Galia Lahav gown that appeared to pay tribute to Monroe’s famous white dress from The Seven Year Itch. She also previously rocked a retro blonde bob at the Governors Awards that called to mind Monroe’s Gentlemen Prefer Blondes era.

In other words, Sweeney has been doing the Marilyn thing for years.

She just apparently didn’t know she had a family tree to back it up.

The discovery also gives a little more weight to the comparisons made by people who have dubbed Sweeney a modern-day Monroe.

Even Sweeney’s boyfriend, Scooter Braun, has reportedly embraced the comparison, with a source previously telling Page Six that he views her as the “modern Marilyn Monroe.”

Sweeney has yet to publicly react to the genealogy discovery.

But if Hollywood ever decides it needs another Marilyn Monroe biopic, casting directors may want to keep Sweeney’s phone number handy.
