Reba McEntire paid tribute to her longtime friend, Dolly Parton, with a moving performance during the 78th Primetime Emmys on Monday evening.
Moments before the performance, Emmy Awards host, director, producer and television icon Mariska Hargitay set the stage, saying, “On August 25, we lost a piece of America’s heart, Dolly Parton.”
Hargitay then welcomed Parton’s Steel Magnolias co-star, Sally Field, to the stage. Field shared, “If there are truly angels on earth, then we just lost one, Dolly Parton.”

Field recalled working alongside Parton and becoming fast friends.
“It was my great good fortune to have worked with Dolly in a film called Steel Magnolias, and over the years, I never stopped loving her,” she went on to say. “Though we lived very far apart, I adored her from day one. How could you not?”
She continued, “She was genuine and humble, supportive, and blisteringly funny, with a bawdy sense of humor that would send any rude guy looking for a place to hide, I couldn’t see then what a real giant Dolly was-not just as an artist, but as a human. She was a humanitarian whose contributions had made a profound difference in the lives of so many in her home state of Tennessee and across our country.”
As the audience filled the room with applause, Field stated: “God bless you, Dolly Parton, my friend. I am not the only one on earth that will love you forever and ever.”

Dressed in an ethereal white gown, McEntire entered the stage as fog rose from below. A photo of McEntire and Parton was displayed behind her as she began performing Parton’s 1983 song “Appalachian Memories,” a heartfelt tribute to Parton’s beloved Appalachia.
At the conclusion of the performance, McEntire sweetly stated: “I love you, Dolly.”
Reba was the perfect artist to honor Dolly, bringing her own deep friendship and admiration for the country music icon to the emotional tribute.

The entire world was shook by Parton’s passing on August 25 when she died at age 80. Upon hearing the news, McEntire was one of the first to share her sadness, writing, “Well, I just got the news that my buddy Dolly passed onto the higher and greater side. Dolly, thank you for all the wonderful things you did for us here on earth. Your love, your music and you gave so much with your huge huge heart. There will never ever be another you. We will remember and cherish every memory and every note you ever played and sang. Thank you, Lord, for Dolly. She’s gonna have a blast in heaven singing all her favorite songs with all her family and friends who have gone on before her. I’ll never forget the first time I met you and I’ll never forget our last conversation. I hold it with love in my heart. I will always love you.”

Well, there weren’t a whole lot of surprises at Arrowhead Stadium last night:
The Kansas City Chiefs once again looked dominant against a formidable AFC opponent, and Taylor Swift was there to cheer on her man.
It was Travis Kelce’s first game as a married man, so it makes sense that Tay was on hand — but some fans thought she might sit this one out.

After all, Swift did miss a few Chiefs games last season.
And as the 2025 Emmy Awards were taking place in Los Angeles at the same time that the Chiefs were squaring off against the Denver Broncos in KC.
So Taylor would’ve had a perfectly good reason for skipping what’s likely to be the final home opener of her husband’s career.
Instead, she was right there in her usual luxury box, alongside Donna Kelce, and … Tom Cruise?!
Yes, for some reason, Tay and Tom were side-by-side and yapping it up between plays.
Why was Cruise on hand? No one seems to know.
The man has been everywhere lately, promoting his upcoming film Digger. But surely that’s not the only reason he attended the Chiefs game as Taylor’s guest — right?
Maybe these two are working on some sort of project together. Or maybe Tay just liked the optics of showing up with the most random A-lister she could think of (and Nicolas Cage was unavailable).
Or maybe Tom Cruise has been a closet Chiefs fan all this time but didn’t want to betray his Upstate New York roots.
Whatever the case, Taylor’s absence at the Emmys and presence at Arrowhead made it clear where her loyalties lie.
And the fact that Tom was with her was a testament to her still-growing star power.
In a testament to her ability to somehow be everywhere at the same time, Taylor also appeared in a sketch, alongside her cat (or at least a cat pretending to be her cat), Olivia Benson.
Mariska Hargitay made her debut as Emmys host, an Taylor might be the world’s most famous Law & Order: SVU fan, so it was a perfect fit.
Few stars are so big that they can skip an award show and still co-star with the host in a sketch about their absence.
Needless to say, the Chiefs weren’t the only ones who won big last night.
