History has been rewritten. Lionel Messi has cemented his legacy as the greatest to ever play the game, adding the ultimate goal-scoring crown to an already legendary résumé. After scoring his first goal against Austria on June 22, Messi recorded his 17th FIFA World Cup goal to become the all-time scoring leader in the men’s tournament. He’s officially surpassed the record held by Germany’s Miroslav Klose – and is now two clear of Klose with 18. The record for most goals scored at a World Cup tournament was previously held by Brazil women’s team legend Marta with 17, which Messi tied with his first goal against Austria and then broke with his second (that came deep into stoppage time). He now stands alone as the World Cup’s all-time leading goalscorer. Messi became just the third player to score in six consecutive World Cup matches, joining Just Fontaine (France) and Jairzinho (Brazil). The first goal came in the 38th minute at Dallas Stadium off a thunderous one-time touch from Facundo Medina’s pass that sailed into the bottom-left corner past Austria keeper Alexander Schlager. And then, Messi scored a second time against Austria in the 95th minute, breaking his tie with Marta. A deflected save popped back to Messi, whose first shot was blocked, but he found the back of the net on his second-chance attempt. Just absolute relentlessness from the GOAT to give Argentina a 2-0 lead over Austria in a match it would ultimately win. Messi has played in every World Cup since 2006 and has scored in all but one edition, missing the scoresheet only in 2010. He scored seven goals during Argentina’s 2022 World Cup title run and has already added four more in 2026, continuing to build on his record. On top of making World Cup history, Messi is Argentina’s all-time leading goalscorer with 122 goals. He also holds the record for the most World Cup match appearances, with 27, and will look to add to that total by the end of the tournament. Could Mbappé Also Join Messi? After making history, Messi has firmly established himself as the undisputed GOAT of the sport, while another rising star is slowly but surely building an impressive World Cup resume behind him in France star Kylian Mbappé. At just 27 years old, Mbappé already ranks fourth on the tournament’s all-time scoring list with 14 career goals. He is also on track to surpass Klose’s mark, potentially as early as this year’s World Cup. Mbappé has already scored 14 goals in just 15 World Cup matches, including four as a 19-year-old during France’s 2018 title run. He followed that performance by scoring eight goals in 2022, the most in the tournament, highlighted by a hat trick in the World Cup final against Argentina. Mbappé made his impact known after recording the second hat trick ever recorded in a World Cup final. Messi may hold the record today, but Mbappé is rapidly closing the gap and appears destined to challenge it in the years ahead. Sunday marked the first Father’s Day since Charlie Kirk was shot and killed in September of last year.
And his widow, Erika Kirk, marked the occasion with a heartbreaking tribute to the late father of two.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Erika reflected on the pain of celebrating the holiday without Charlie while also honoring the legacy he left behind for their two young children.
“Happy Father’s Day to the best daddy,” she wrote alongside family photos and videos featuring Charlie with their daughter and son.
She went on to say that she “still wrote you your letter,” suggesting that this was an annual Father’s Day tradition in the Kirk family.
“They miss you. I miss you. I just can’t help but thank you, endlessly today. Thank you for loving us so well. Thank you for making me a wife and a mother,” Erika wrote, adding:
“Thank you for our two precious babies that carry pieces of you with them. Thank you for all the times you’ve prayed over our family.
“Thank you for living your life in such a way to be an incredible example to other Fathers. Thank you for all the sacrifices you’ve made. You will forever be an extraordinary father. Forever.
“Today in our hearts we celebrate you like your favorite TPUSA AmFest 2024 walkout.
“You’d always say more fog, more sparklers, more bass and then next with the babies in our arms walking off stage. Our love was integrated, and that is how it’ll remain.”
The post quickly drew an outpouring of support from followers, many of whom offered prayers and words of encouragement as the family continues to navigate an unimaginable loss.
Charlie’s death shocked supporters across the country and left Erika raising the couple’s two children on her own.
Since then, Erika has frequently used social media to share memories of her husband while documenting her family’s grieving process.
She has also spoken publicly about the difficulty of moving forward without the man she once described as “the love of my life.”
Despite the heartbreak, Erika has repeatedly emphasized her faith and her determination to preserve Charlie’s memory for their children. Following his death, she stepped into a leadership role at Turning Point USA and vowed to continue the work that meant so much to her husband.
Father’s Day served as another painful reminder of what the family has lost, but it was also a celebration of what remains.
Through photographs, memories, and stories shared with their children, Erika made it clear that Charlie’s presence continues to be felt long after his passing.
And while this first Father’s Day without him was undoubtedly difficult, she appears determined to ensure that her children never forget the father who loved them so deeply.

Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian welcomed baby Rocky Thirteen over two years ago.
Naturally, she showered him with love an affection in a public display of affection for Father’s Day.
Of course, fans couldn’t help but noticing a major snub in the process.
Scott Disick is her ex, but he is the father of three of her kids.
‘Baby daddy’
Kourt spent much of the weekend broadcasting her good times with her family.
On Sunday, June 21, she publicly showered Travis Barker with love.
He is her husband. He is also the father of her youngest child, 2-year-old Rocky Thirteen.
“Baby daddy,” Kourtney wrote on Instagram alongside a black heart emoji.
Notably, baby daddy is an AAVE term that is very useful — to describe a man, often who is not one’s current partner, who is the father of one’s child. Travis is her actual husband.
Sure enough, much of the content that Kourtney shared involved Travis’ parenting.
She and her family visited Lake Como, Italy back in the summer of 2025. She shared throwbacks.
(Among other things, Villa del Balbianello — which overlooks the famous lake — appears in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones.)
Kourt’s posts showcased Travis at his most paternal, spending time with precious little Rocky.
But was there something missing from her posts? Yes. Yes there was.
That’s a wrap on Father’s Day!
And no celebration or acknowledgment for Scott Disick, it seems.
Obviously, Kourtney is pretty famously no longer with Scott. That entanglement ended in the Beforetimes.
But Scott is not only still close with some members of her family (like Kris and Khloe), but he’s the father of three of Kourt’s kids.
Kourtney isn’t a corporation. Fathering Mason, Penelope, and Reign doesn’t give Scott a majority share or whatever.
But barring situations where a father is terrible or the exes hate each other, it’s not unusual for moms to give a shout-out to the former partner who fathered three of their kids.
Obviously, some of Kourt’s fans took to her comments to remind her that Travis is only one of the fathers in her life.
(In fact, it’s believed that some of her kids don’t care for Travis or for the marriage.)
Some say that this is just another example of Kourtney disappearing in Travis’ slender shadow.
Others, however, say that she’s just gushing about her husband and doesn’t feel the need to performatively celebrate the ex who went on a bender and boned every 19-year-old model within arm’s reach while she stayed home with the kids like an adult.
If Mason, Penelope, and Reign feel the need to celebrate Scott, they’re welcome to do so. Kourt has moved on.
