Time for Alaska lawmakers to stop playing games with a politically rich dividend

Little kids can’t help but play with their food. Gamblers can’t stop playing with a pair of dice or deck of cards. Cats can’t help but play with a ball of yarn. It’s the same with legislators who play around with voter-enticing talk of a fat Permanent Fund dividend.

They just can’t help themselves, particularly in an election year. Like kids, gamblers and cats, it’s in the DNA of too many elected officials.

It’s too much “fun” to talk about a PFD this year of almost four times the size of last year’s dividend.

It’s too much “fun” to recite their pro-dividend pledges and votes when they campaign.

And it’s electioneering “fun” to portray the other political party as anti-PFD, setting them up for blame when the supersize fat dividend goes on a diet during the last weeks of the budget-writing process.

Yet there is nothing funny about being fiscally irresponsible.

Yes, oil prices have climbed far up the price ladder, which means state oil tax and royalty revenues will be much higher than expected. Which means the state can afford more than it could a month ago, before President Donald Trump decided to declare war on Iran, and Iran retaliated by declaring war on the free movement of oil and natural gas out of the Persian Gulf.

There is a long list of needs for those additional oil dollars that will flow into the state treasury, not the least of which is more funding for public schools, housing, public safety — and putting money into savings for the next time oil prices drop and the state is woefully short of cash.

The dividend fixation needs to stop. There’s real work to do if Alaska is going to improve its schools, stop the 13 years of more people leaving the state than moving here, and build a state based on quality of life, education, public services and jobs. Pouring almost every available state dollar into the PFD does nothing to help the collective good.

Legislative votes, such as the one in the House Finance Committee last week, serve little purpose other than to have “fun” with politics. The committee voted 6-5 to include a PFD estimated at $3,800 in the budget. In addition to spending much of this year’s higher oil revenues, the fat dividend would drain half of the state’s budget reserves account.

It’s similar to draining your savings because you’re trying to impress your date. Only for legislators, their dates are the voters later this year.

Better to impress them with responsible behavior than the equivalent of a pair of dice and ball of yarn.

2026 Masters Stock Report: Which LIV Golf Stars Are Trending Up and Down

This might be LIV Golf’s best chance to have one of its players win a green jacket at the Masters. Entering the 2026 Masters at Augusta National in Georgia, there are two LIV players among the top three favorites at most sportsbooks. Both of those players are above even last year’s champion, Rory McIlroy. Here’s a look at players whose form through LIV Golf’s first five events indicates whether they are more or less likely to leave Augusta victorious this weekend. Stock Up: Bryson DeChambeau It seems like a matter of time until DeChambeau has the green jacket put on him. He has had six top-10 finishes at majors over the past two years, including a win at the 2024 U.S. open. In DeChambeau’s last two Masters starts, he’s finished T6 and T5. Last year, he was in the final group with Rory McIlroy before ultimately falling behind the Northern Irishman en route to his win. DeChambeau started the LIV season with a T17 in Riyadh, a third-place finish in Adelaide and a T24 in Hong Kong. Then, he won in Singapore and South Africa. He’s the third betting favorite this week, according to DraftKings, behind Scottie Scheffler and Jon Rahm. At only 32 years old, DeChambeau is firmly in his prime and clearly steps up at every major. Given his form entering the tournament and his recent results at majors, this could be the year when he gets his jacket. Stock Down: Tyrrell Hatton Hatton has routinely performed well at majors, but his LIV results indicate this might not be the year he dons the green jacket on Sunday night. Hatton has four top-20s and two top-10s at majors over the past two years, including a T9 and T14 in his last two Masters starts. He only has two career top-five finishes at majors in his career, though, although one did come at last year’s U.S. Open. Hatton’s five LIV results this season have been all over the board. He has two top-10s, but his other three finishes are 47, T45 and T38, which don’t inspire confidence. Stock Up: Jon Rahm Rahm, unlike DeChambeau, already has his green jacket, and there are a lot of reasons to believe he’s poised to get another this year. Rahm has finished in the top five of all five LIV events this season, including top-two four times. He also won at LIV Hong Kong. He ranks first in greens in regulation and birdies this year at LIV events, and he’s fourth in driving distance and scrambling. Across the board, Rahm is thriving right now. The one thing he’ll need to be working is his putter. He’s tied for 35th among LIV golfers this season in putting average. He’ll need the flat stick to be on point this weekend to win. Rahm has three top-10s at majors over the past two years and finished T14 last year at Augusta. Last year, he started with a 3-over 75, which kept him from truly contending. Rahm is second on the odds board this week, indicating he might be poised to contend for his second green jacket. Stock Up: Carlos Ortiz Ortiz does not have a lot of experience at major championships. He has only played four majors since the start of 2022, and he’s missed the cut three times. His one result, though, was a T4 at last year’s U.S. Open. In Ortiz’s only start at the Masters, he missed the cut in 2021. After the big two at the top of LIV Golf, Ortiz is next among players who will be at Augusta this weekend in 15th. He has two top-10s in his last three starts and a respectable T21 in Singapore. Ortiz is tied for 10th in birdies among LIV players this season, but the key this weekend for him will be simply finding the fairway and hitting greens. He’s 50th in fairways hit at just 55%, and he’s T33 in making it on the green in regulation on just 71.7% of holes. Stock Down: Bubba Watson Since winning his second green jacket in 2014, Watson has one top-10 finish in 12 starts at Augusta National, including two missed cuts in his last three starts there. This may not be the year the results get better. Through five LIV starts, Watson’s best finish is T28. That’s his only result that is better than T37. Last year at the Masters, Watson ranked first in Strokes Gained: Putting, so the savvy vet still knows how to navigate Augusta well. Whether the 47-year-old can compete over the weekend remains to be seen. This page may contain affiliate links to legal sports betting partners. Zepa Cause of Death: Wildly Popular Influencer Was 26

Reading Time: 2 minutes

We have tragic news to report out of the world of social media today.

Zepa — the influencer who amassed a following of more than 1.5 million across platforms — has passed away.

She was just 26 years old.

Social media celebrity Zepa is dead at 26.

News of her death comes courtesy of a statement posted to her X (formerly Twitter) page.

“Zepa has passed away unexpectedly,” read a translated announcement posted on April 5 (via Page Six).

“On behalf of the deceased, I deeply apologize for the abrupt news of their passing. The funeral was held privately with only family members in attendance.

“We sincerely thank you for the kindness and support extended to the deceased during their lifetime.”

The statement did not give any indication of Zepa’s cause of death.

But sadly, some of her followers were not shocked by the news of her passing.

In her most recent social media posts, Zepa frequently referenced her struggles with alcoholism.

At one point, she showed bruises on her arms and stated that she had suffered injuries during a recent bender.

In another post, she stated that she believed her drinking would lead her to an early grave.

“It seems that the average lifespan for [people with] alcohol dependency is around 50 years old… Have I already passed the halfway mark…?”

Throughout 2026, the Japanese web celebrity expressed concern about her own drinking habits.

“Where are my strengths, anyway… My cheerful side? Nah, I get alcohol depression sometimes too, though, lol,” she tweeted in March.

In another tweet, she revealed that she was “regretting having drunk too much the previous day.”

In a series of tweets from December, Zepa opened up about blacking out frequently:

“I don’t have alcohol-free days, or rather, if I don’t drink before bed at night, it doesn’t feel like the day’s over, and once it gets dark outside, my liver starts acting up somehow,” she wrote, adding:

“Even though I was drinking like crazy until 7 a.m. this morning, I’ve bounced back and now I’m having a Strong Zero

In another post, Zepa told her followers that she was “worried about [her]self” due to her drinking.

On social media, fans were quick to express their condolences.

“I still can’t believe it, but I sincerely pray for your soul’s eternal peace,” wrote one fan following news of her death.

“I offer my deepest condolences,” wrote another one.

“We offer our deepest condolences. May you rest in peace,” added a third.

Our thoughts go out to Zepa’s loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.

2026 Masters: What to Know About the 10 LIV Golfers Competing in Augusta

The Masters isn’t just another major — it’s where legacies are made and long waits finally come to an end. Just last year, Rory McIlroy broke through for his first green jacket and this week, a new group arrives at Augusta chasing that same moment. LIV Golf will once again be well represented at Augusta, with 10 players in the field. Led by Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm, LIV Golf has a real chance to make history this weekend. Since the league’s creation, no player has won the Masters after leaving the PGA Tour for LIV Golf. Rahm might be the headliner coming into the week, and DeChambeau is on a bit of a heater. But there are some other LIV golfers to look out for entering the week. So with that in mind, here’s a look at the LIV players teeing up at Augusta this week. Bryson DeChambeau DeChambeau is heading into this week with plenty of momentum after having won back-to-back LIV events and finished in the top three in three of his last five starts. Augusta has suited him well, with consecutive top-six finishes and a couple of first-round leads. Sergio Garcia Garcia won the 2017 Masters, which made him the third Spaniard to claim a green jacket at Augusta. He’s also made the cut in all 15 of his appearances and has been able to put together four top-10 finishes along the way. Garcia is one of the most seasoned international players heading into this week. Tyrrell Hatton Hatton has made seven cuts in nine Masters starts, highlighted by a career-best T9 in 2024. He’s also played 32 rounds at Augusta, where he posted eight under-par rounds with a low of 68. This season, he’s enjoying his best LIV Golf year yet, playing well off the tee and on par-3s. Dustin Johnson Johnson won the 2020 Masters by five strokes at 20-under, setting a tournament scoring record. He’s made 11 cuts in 15 starts at Augusta, notching five top-10s and 23 under-par rounds with a low of 65. This season, he’s been one of the top performers on LIV Golf in Strokes Gained Putting. Tom McKibbin McKibbin is making his Master’s debut this year and is one of just two players from Northern Ireland in the field, alongside McIlroy. He’s been steady on LIV Golf, with four top-25 finishes in five events and several rounds in the mid-60s. Carlos Ortiz Ortiz returns to the Masters for the first time since his 2021 debut, where he missed the cut but managed a round under par with a 71. He’s off to a strong start this season on LIV Golf, ranking second in Strokes Gained Approach. In 2020, Ortiz made history by winning the Houston Open, becoming the first Mexican winner on the PGA Tour in 42 years. Jon Rahm Rahm won the 2023 Masters, becoming the fourth Spaniard to claim a green jacket and the first European to win both the Masters and the U.S. Open. He’s kept that form going this season, picking up three LIV Golf wins and several other strong finishes. With his consistency, Rahm heads into Augusta as one of the top contenders again. Charl Schwartzel Schwartzel won the 2011 Masters, becoming the third South African to claim a green jacket and 50 years after Gary Player did so. In 16 Masters starts, he’s made 11 cuts, earned three top-10 finishes, and posted a low round of 66. That kind of experience shows he can still handle Augusta and be a contender if he’s in form this week. Cameron Smith Smith has been consistent at the Masters, finishing in the top 10 in five of his last eight appearances, including top-five finishes in 2018, 2020 and 2022. He is the only player in Masters history to shoot all four rounds in the 60s in a single tournament. Smith also shares the record for the lowest score by an international player and by a non-winner. Bubba Watson Watson knows Augusta inside and out, having won the Masters in 2012 and 2014. He’s always had a feel for the course, even leading in Strokes Gained Putting at last year’s Masters. This season on LIV Golf has been tough on Watson as he heads into the week without a top-25 finish. LIV Golf hasn’t always had the results it hoped for at the Masters, but this year’s group brings plenty of talent and experience. Most of them should make the cut, and a few could even stick around near the top of the leaderboard. With past champions like Garcia, Schwartzel, Johnson, Watson, and Rahm, there’s some serious experience in the field. Those players know Augusta and can handle the pressure when it counts. If they all play well this week, we could see some big moves as the tournament goes on. By Sunday, one of them might even pull off something historic.Latest Sports News from FOX Sports

Ronnie Ortiz-Magro (Ex) Girlfriend Calls Police Amidst ‘Domestic Dispute’

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Some of the cast of Jersey Shore went on to become model citizens.

Ronnie Ortiz-Magro went in another direction.

He developed a reputation as an abusive trainwreck. And all of his apologies haven’t changed that.

The “domestic dispute” 911 call that had police racing to his home recently isn’t going to change that, either.

Ideally, breakups should not have to involve police

TMZ obtained a police report related to a recent 911 call.

On Sunday, March 29, Kirsten, girlfriend of Jersey Shore alum Ronnie Ortiz-Magro, contacted police for help.

She and the MTV star had apparently been “living together as a family unit” and had been an item for “three years.”

They had broken up. Unfortunately, that wasn’t quite the end of it.

Now, she needed assistance from law enforcement to retrieve her belongings from Magro’s $1.2 million Miami mansion.

Kirsten told police that she had initiated the breakup with Magro.

Allegedly, this was “due to infidelity issues,” the report listed.

Police accompanied Kirsten to the mansion, informing him that they were there to ensure a peaceful transition of property from his residence.

According to the report, both parties agreed that Kirsten would return three days later, on April 1, with a moving truck.

While police were present, no notable incident seemed to take place.

His rep claims that he’s the one who asked for police presence

A rep for Ortiz-Magro gave a statement to TMZ.

“He was in the process of separating from his long term girlfriend,” the representative described.

“And,” the rep claimed, “it was at his request for her to call the police.”

Boldly, the statement alleged that he wanted police there “to ensure that the separation/moving out was peaceful.”

The rep alleged: “And because he’s been the recipient of falsehoods in the past.”

“And,” the statement claimed, Magro “is in a really good place.”

Emotionally and mentally. Not just because he’s in a $1.2 million mansion.

“And,” the rep alleged, the Jersey Shore alum “didn’t want there to be any unnecessary drama.”

Very few people would consider police presence to be a solution to drama.

In fact, most breakups that involve police tend to be considered more dramatic than those that do not feature police. We don’t have a statistic to back that up, but, c’mon.

This is the first that we’ve heard about his now-ex

At this point, we don’t know anything about Kirsten.

That includes her last name. Which is fine! She is not a public figure.

(Which also means that there’s a real chance that she might never publicly respond to his rep’s claim that Ortiz-Magro is the one who wanted police there.)

The two kept their erstwhile relationship under the radar for this long. She shouldn’t have to answer questions about it.

Truth be told, most folks familiar with Magro’s dating history are just relieved that she got out.
