Taylor Frankie Paul Ex Claims Grandmother ‘Coached’ Child After Stool …

Reading Time: 3 minutes

What did her ex-husband say?

The Taylor Frankie Paul arrest video is such an ugly mess. The whole situation is.

Following the barstool incident, Tate Paul spoke to authorities to issue a warning.

He claimed that Taylor’s mom was “coaching” his 3-year-old on what to say.

‘She’s coaching my daughter’

People has obtained audio from a February 24, 2023 call between Tate Paul and police.

“The grandmother, is, you know, obviously there’s a conflict of interest with her because it’s her daughter that did this,” he says during the recording.

He’s referring to Liann May, TFP’s mother.

She is, of course, the grandmother to Taylor’s daughter, Indy.

“I’ve noticed she’s already tried gatekeeping — not gatekeeping — but, like, she’s coaching my daughter and saying specific things,” Tate claimed in the recording.

At the time, Tate claimed that Indy had suffered a small injury to her head on the night of February 17, 2023.

That night, of course, being the night on which Taylor allegedly threw a stool at Dakota Mortensen, her boyfriend at the time.

By his own account, Dakota deflected the piece of furniture, where it struck Taylor’s young child.

Tate claimed that it was a “goose egg” injury — a folksy expression for a hematoma (bruise) on the head where there may be mild swelling and tenderness.

In the same breath, he admitted that it was impossible to document because it was small and covered by his child’s hair.

Apparently Indy ‘seemed fine’

Liann had apparently told authorities that Indy was not injured during Taylor and Dakota’s domestic violence incident.

Specifically, she told officers that Indy was asleep.

(Indy was 3 years old at the time, and it was after 3 AM when they stopped by the house.)

However, Liann told investigators that her grandchild “seemed fine” despite what had occurred.

If you ever had a “goose egg” bruise as a kid (from, say, hypothetically, tripping over nothing and slamming into the corner of a table in front of your entire fourth grade class), you know that they feel large but are actually very small.

Was Liann telling investigators the truth, or covering for her daughter? It really sounds like both.

3-year-olds might seem perfectly fine after they’ve calmed down after a tragic incident.

Coaching a child can feel like a helpful thing to do — for everyone involved, including the grandchild.

The people doing it seldom feel like they’re encouraging someone to lie, but simply to choose their words carefully.

But it would still qualify as covering for Taylor.

It seems like everything in her life is unraveling

Obviously, we here at THG cannot verify anything that Tate Paul said in 2023.

We also have to wonder what he would say now — whether he will give a statement about his ex in 2026 regarding this recording.

For now, we only have a lot of footage and reports from 2023.

And, of course, Taylor’s season of The Bachelorette was pulled by ABC in a panic — even though the 2023 incident was never a secret and was in fact old news to The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives viewers.

(It’s a shame, too, because one of her suitors led a pretty dramatic life himself.)

We have yet to see the end of the fallout from this. Things are looking grim for Taylor. And, frankly, for everyone in her life.

Luke Bryan Brings the Party to Country Radio With ‘Country and She Knows It’

Luke Bryan is back with new music ahead of a packed tour schedule. His latest release, “Country and She Knows It,” is sure to be a perfect, high-energy addition to both his live shows and country radio.

Written by Josh Miller, Parker Welling, and Matt Dragstrem, and produced by Jeff Stevens with Jody Stevens and Matt Dragstrem co-producing, the single delivers a pure country-anthem sound built to be the soundtrack for dancing and good times.

Bryan’s signature vocals emerge amid a modernized honky-tonk energy, painting a vivid picture of a girl who is unapologetically country to the highest degree. From the start, he highlights everything that makes her “certified county line” from denim shorts cut so high the pockets peek out beneath, to a flannel tied around her waist, topped off with a Mossy Oak cap.

She perfectly embodies the small-town, rural life that shaped her, the kind of girl whose wild side comes out when George Strait’s “Marina Del Ray plays and who not only owns her country roots but naturally draws a country boy in return.

“She’s country and she knows it/ Everybody in here does too/ Body like a river just rollin’/ Tall boots steppin’ like one-two/ One-two/ It don’t matter where she goin’/ Roots run deep, but they can’t hide/ That girl’s country and she knows it/ And she knows she got this country boy tonight,” Bryan sings on the chorus.

This kind of infectious feel-good energy is exactly the type of vibe that the five-time Entertainer of the Year says he was looking for when preparing for his 2026 Word on the Street Tour.

“As I gear up for touring season and summer I really wanted to focus on releasing a song that felt fun and energetic and the moment the writers sent this one I knew it was it,” he shared. “I have always tried to have the mindset to wake up and approach every day as a good day so being able to share that way of life through my music is something I am honestly grateful for. Can’t wait to look out and see the crowds out of their seat and bonus if a little dancing is going on.”

Brantley Gilbert Turns Real-Life Love Story Into Tension-Filled Single ‘GOOD DAMN’

Brantley Gilbert is back with a new single that drops listeners into that all-too-familiar moment of running into an ex and realizing the feelings never really went away. “GOOD DAMN” marks his first song to impact Country Radio since signing with BBR Music Group/BMG Nashville on Wheelhouse Records.

Written by Gilbert alongside Brock Berryhill, HARDY and Taylor Phillips, and produced by Gilbert and Berryhill, the fiercely honest tune isn’t a story that was made up in an attempt to relate with listeners. Instead, it chronicles the messy, real moments of his own love story with his wife of 11 years, Amber.

He opens the track by setting the scene in a bar that holds a lot of history for their relationship. The energy is a bit raw and a little unsteady as Gilbert runs into a woman for the first time since she told him that she never wanted to see him again. As soon as he lays eyes on her, that tension rushes back to him. He can’t help but share his unfiltered thoughts, revealing how much he really misses everything they had.

“Girl you look good, damn/ You’re drop dead ain’t ya/ Showin’ off your dress like that/ Hope your mama’s doin’ good, damn/ I miss her biscuits not to mention sippin’ whiskey with your dad/ Whoa word around town is you still ain’t found/ Nobody that can fill these boots/ I can see it in your eyes baby you ain’t gotta lie/ You know good and damn well you miss me too,” he sings.

There’s also this clear feeling of hope that lies beneath Gilbert’s rugged baritone vocals as he notes that, from what he’s heard, she hasn’t moved on. By the very end the song continues to live in that in-between space that leaves the listener wondering if they will ever get back together. But knowing that this was inspired by the Georgia native’s personal romance makes it pretty clear that it all works out in the end.

“This song hits close to home for me,” shares Gilbert. “It’s about a second chance and being honest in the moment. You see someone you’ve got a past with and realize there’s still something there. Instead of overthinking it, you shoot your shot.”

When announcing the new single on social media, Brantley Gilbert also explained that “GOOD DAY” marks the start of a “brand-new chapter” in his career. The smoky, swagger-fueled track channels the storytelling and raw edge of Gilbert’s early work that first gained him recognition in the genre. It also offers a glimpse into what he has in store for his highly anticipated eighth studio album.

“My first release with the label that has felt like home from the start. Simply put, this song is all about shootin’ your shot and just telling it how it is,” he wrote.

Fans will have the chance to catch Gilbert at one of his upcoming festival dates throughout the spring and summer, with additional tour dates to be announced for the fall.

Clavicular Arrested For Assault In Florida: Report

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Popular “looksmaxxing” influencer Clavicular has reportedly been arrested for assault in Florida.

News of the arrest comes courtesy of independent journalist Taylor Lorenz.

Details are scarce at the moment, but Lorenz initially alleged that the 20-year-old, whose real name is Braden Peters, was arrested due to a fight involving his girlfriend.

"Looksmaxxing" influencer Clavicular has been arrested.

“Clavicular was just arrested in Fort Lauderdale on a misdemeanor assault charge (no physical contact or injury is required for this charge),” Lorenz wrote, adding:

“The arrest is likely related to a physical fight between Clav’s gf and influencer Jenny Popach who broke into the hype house.

“Jenny Popach has been making videos on TikTok for months saying she’s going to have Clavicular sent to jail. There’s also lots of strange AI generated drama news slop like this on TikTok discussing the situation.

Lorenz later retracted part of that story, reporting that it’s now unclear exactly why Peters was taken into custody.

“Clav shot a dead alligator on stream today but the Everglades are not in the same county where he was arrested, and this is not likely the cause of his arrest. Clav was arrested on a warrant from Osceola County,” she tweeted, adding:

“Here’s the arrest warrant that was executed against Clavicular earlier today. I’ve reached out to his team for more details, I’m sure many will be awaiting his next mugshot.”

There are many conflicting reports about the cause and circumstances of Peters’ arrest.

TMZ is reporting that Clav was arrested due to a warrant issued by Osceola County.

The outlet also claims that he was “hit with a misdemeanor battery charge.”

“Adin Ross confirms on his stream that Clavicular was just ARRESTED and Clavicular’s 24/7 livestream just ENDED,” wrote one large account on X (formerly Twitter).

“People speculate he was likely arrested by the FWC after unloading a magazine on a purportedly dead alligator earlier.”

The account also shared a video of Clavicular allegedly shooting said dead alligator — but that does not seem to be the cause of his arrest.

A controversial figure in the online “manosphere,” Peters instructs his young followers on how to take extreme measures to improve their physical appearance and attract women.

We will have further updates on this developing story as new information becomes available.

Justin Baldoni Moving Forward With NEW Defamation Lawsuit

Reading Time: 3 minutes

They say that it’s important to have hobbies.

Despite some massive dismissals, Justin Baldoni is still embroiled in his legal war against Blake Lively.

Another of his lawsuits, however, is moving forward.

This one isn’t against Lively. But it’s not unrelated — because the woman he’s suing allegedly spoke to Lively.

On CBS Mornings, Justin Baldoni spoke about his then-upcoming film, ‘It Ends With Us.’ (Image Credit: CBS)

This lawsuit is against Stephanie Jones, his former publicist

In December of 2024, Stephanie Jones — founder of Jonesworks PR — reportedly sued Wayfarer, his production company, alongside Baldoni’s crisis PR team.

Jones alleged multiple claims, including breach of contract.

Baldoni and Jennifer Abel, his publicist, filed a countersuit, accusing Jones of defamation and violating client confidentiality by sharing their private communications.

Jones filed to dismiss Baldoni’s claims.

In Touch Weekly reports that Judge Lewis J. Liman has allowed two aspects of Baldoni’s claim to move forward.

Wayfarer alleges that “Jones and Jonesworks made one or more statements” to Blake Lively, to Ryan Reynolds, and to publicist Leslie Sloane.

These alleged statements were “to the effect that Wayfarer had retaliated against Lively and others for reporting alleged sexual misconduct.”

The retaliation was “including orchestrating a ‘smear campaign’ by propagating false and misleading narratives about Lively for the purpose of damaging her image and reputation.”

Many in the general public might consider these to be statements of fact.

However, Baldoni and Wayfarer consider these statements to be defamatory — meaning that Jones made these statements and knew them to be false.

Speaking on a podcast, Justin Baldoni emphasizes the importance of breaking cycles. (Image Credit: YouTube)

Part of the suit hinges upon the claims against Baldoni being false

Baldoni and Wayfarer’s argument doesn’t stop there.

“Wayfarer alleges that Jones knew the statement she made to Sloane was false,” the lawsuit alleges.

The documents continue: “‘As not only was she well aware that Lively had not actually been sexually harassed on set, she also knew that there had been not been a ‘smear campaign.’” That’s … interesting.

“This is clear because Jones was copied on many of Wayfarer’s email and text threads during the relevant period,” the lawsuit alleges. “And knew full well that Wayfarer was scarcely engaging with the press at all in August 2024.”

The documents went so far as to allege: “Much less carrying out offensive tactics in retaliation for something that never happened.’”

As we noted, Jones filed to dismiss the lawsuit.

However, the court declined to dismiss the defamation allegations.

The reasoning is that it is possible that “Jones was in a position to know the veracity of her statements at that time.”

It sounds like Wayfarer is going to essentially force Jones to prove that she didn’t speak to Lively on the topic.

Or to prove that there was a smear campaign against Lively, and that Baldoni orchestrated it.

We linked this (admittedly dated) rundown of the initial lawsuit, if that’s helpful

Knowing something and proving it are different things.

Of course, on the flipside, Baldoni may have to prove that Jones made these statements and that they were false.

That’s a tall order.

Even in 2026, after everything that’s come out, there are still people in comments sections who believe that Baldoni is the target of some sort of elaborate conspiracy or frame-job or even victim-blaming.

These folks are framing the lack of dismissal as a “win” for Baldoni. And it is. But despite the subject matter, this case doesn’t seem to be tied directly to his legal war with Lively.

Remember, Baldoni and Lively butt heads in court again starting in May. That will be here sooner than you think.

War on Iran during nuclear negotiations undermines the US’s ability to talk peace around the world − and the effects won’t end when Trump leaves office

On Feb. 7, 2026, Iranian newspapers featured headlines on the resumption of nuclear talks between Iran and the United States, following their suspension after Israeli and U.S. attacks on Iran in June 2025. Fatemeh Bahrami/Anadolu via Getty Images

Operation Epic Fury – the latest round of military strikes against Iran – began when Iran was engaged in negotiations with the United States to renew restrictions on its nuclear program.

This is not the first time the United States has bombed Iran during nuclear negotiations.

In June 2025, while its representatives were in talks with Iran over that country’s ability to produce nuclear weapons, Washington launched Operation Midnight Hammer, targeting three Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan.

Washington has been broader in its selection of targets in Iran this time around, even though one stated U.S. goal has been to ensure that Iran does not gain nuclear weapons capability.

Conducting military strikes against a country that is engaged in negotiations to reduce its nuclear capacity sets a dangerous precedent. As a scholar of the global nuclear order, I believe that the conflict has jeopardized all future diplomacy to limit the spread of nuclear weapons.

The U.S. military action during negotiations has also undermined Washington’s ability to conduct diplomacy to end the war. Iranian officials negotiating with mediators have expressed their concern that they “don’t want to be ‘fooled again,’” according to a report in Axios, and that any new set of negotiations might just be a ruse to conduct more attacks.

An American flag and an Iranian flag, separated by flames.
The conflict between the U.S. and Iran has jeopardized future negotiations to limit the spread of nuclear weapons.

Breaking trust

The key components of any negotiations are trust and good faith.

Parties coming to a negotiating table to discuss their nuclear programs must trust that those across the table are acting in good faith. Past negotiations on nuclear arms control and risk-reduction measures between entrenched enemies, such as the U.S. and the Soviet Union or even India and Pakistan, have seen trust as a key component of coming to the table.

Trust has its own diplomatic cachet. It allows negotiating states to be a little more vulnerable, thus facilitating the possibility of softened positions leading to landmark agreements.

In the 1960s, negotiations were held to establish a global agreement – the Treaty on the Non-proliferation of Nuclear Weapons – to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons. Nations without nuclear weapons had to trust that countries with them would not use their atomic arsenals to gain military advantage over them as they committed to forswear the possession and development of these weapons. Today all but one of the nonnuclear countries of the world – South Sudan – are signatories to the treaty.

The consequences of Washington’s military strikes would be even more grave if a new nuclear deal between Iran and the United States was truly within reach in the negotiations in Geneva days before the conflict started. This is because the reported concessions from Iran were substantial enough to have warranted a pause in Washington’s military strategy.

A day before Operation Epic Fury began, Oman foreign minister Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi, the principal mediator in the talks, announced that Iran had agreed to zero stockpiling. That is, Tehran would give up its enriched uranium, would down-blend – nuclear-speak for diluting – all material that was previously highly enriched to a neutral level, and be subject to “full and comprehensive verification” by the International Atomic Energy Agency.

If true, these terms could have made any new agreement between the U.S. and Iran as consequential as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action negotiated between the United States and Iran under President Obama’s administration.

The violation of trust by the U.S. will be keenly observed by North Korea. In early March 2026, that country conducted tests of what it called “strategic cruise missiles” – missiles it suggests could have nuclear capability – stating that its ability to attack from under and above water was growing and that it was arming its navy with nuclear weapons.

Any possibility of bilateral negotiations between the United States and North Korea on its nuclear and missile programs will now be marked by the unreliability of the U.S. as a good faith negotiator.

President Lyndon B. Johnson looks on as the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty is signed on July 1, 1968.

Imperiled future

With its actions in Iran, the U.S. has lost credibility as a leading international interlocutor in service of global nonproliferation diplomacy.

Key to a nation’s credibility during negotiations is the reputation that it builds from its past actions. Both instances of the U.S. bombing Iran while negotiating with it will make it very unlikely that other countries will engage with Washington in future nuclear diplomacy.

Those countries that want to take part in nuclear diplomacy involving the U.S. will likely ask that other, trusted countries participate as well. They will also likely seek security guarantees before engaging in negotiations. This will mean that China and the European Union – countries, alliances or institutions that might help keep the United States accountable – will likely have to be a part of any such diplomacy.

Loss of trust in the United States’ good faith will likely continue across future U.S. administrations after the Trump presidency. This will be because of uncertainty over the credibility of international commitments made by the United States. An agreement made by one administration could be reneged on by the next.

Another area of concern is that in the future a country on the threshold of gaining nuclear weapons might not arrive at the negotiating table fully ready to give up all parts of its nuclear program. Even if a country does make concessions, it might choose to hold on to some part of its nuclear or missile program as a guarantee against a future American military strike.

The future of negotiations over nuclear proliferation may yet expand beyond that focus to ballistic missiles as well. Recall that Trump began the latest conflict saying that Iran’s ballistic missiles were an “imminent threat” to the U.S. and its bases abroad. Nuclear weapons programs and ballistic missile programs often go together. Countries with such missile programs that are not allied with the U.S. might also be future targets of bilateral diplomatic and military action.

The loss of trust and good faith has substantially reduced the ability of the U.S. to diplomatically address not only broader nuclear and missile nonproliferation concerns but also its own national security needs. Under these circumstances, military action might be the most tempting option for Washington to secure these goals – and that is dangerous.

2026 NFL Draft: Ranking the Value of Every Position in the Pro Game

With the NFL Draft less than a month away, it is the perfect time to delve into how team-builders around the league assign positional value across the board. As the NFL continues to trend toward a pass-centric approach, with franchise quarterbacks expected to carry their teams to victory, executives, scouts and coaches are building rosters focused on helping the QB1 spark a title run. As a former NFL player and scout, here is how I rank the importance of every position on the field in today’s game, which provides a blueprint for how I would build my roster. The value of the 25 positions is listed in descending order and each includes three notable examples of the best in the league. 25. Return Specialist The implementation of the dynamic kickoff has brought the return specialist back into prominence. Teams looking to upgrade their starting field position or boost their offensive output are willing to pour resources into the position to elevate the kicking game. Three of the best:Chimere Dike, Tennessee TitansKaVontae Turpin, Dallas CowboysKene Nwangwu, New York Jets 24. Punter The significant field position exchange on punts is often overlooked, but astute coaches will utilize this aspect of the kicking game to set their respective teams up for success. With directional kicking and ball placement, particularly inside the 10-yard line, coveted at a premium, the top punters are hot commodities on the open market. Three of the best:Logan Cooke, Jacksonville JaguarsTress Way, Washington CommandersJack Fox, Detroit Lions 23. Kicker The long-distance kicking boom has elevated the profile of placekickers. As valued point scorers, kickers have played a major role in the offensive explosion around the league. Three of the best:Brandon Aubrey, Dallas CowboysCam Little, Jacksonville JaguarsHarrison Butker, Kansas City Chiefs 22. Wide Receiver 3 The third receiver on the field flies under the radar but is a big part of an explosive offense due to his ability to dominate matchups against slot cornerbacks, strong safeties and linebackers. As a designated gadget player on screens, fly sweeps and reverses, the WR3 typically has a small menu of plays on the call sheet designed to impact the game in pivotal moments. Three of the best:Josh Downs, Indianapolis ColtsRashid Shaheed, Seattle SeahawksParker Washington, Jacksonville Jaguars 21. Nose Tackle The importance of stopping the run has diminished, but the presence of a hole-clogger with imposing size and strength in the middle of the defensive line remains a top priority for team-builders. If the super-sized run stopper can also push the pocket as an interior pass rusher, the defense can play at an elite level with a disruptive force at the point of attack. Three of the best:Dexter Lawrence, New York GiantsJordan Davis, Philadelphia EaglesByron Murphy II, Seattle Seahawks 20. Free Safety The increased utilization of split-safety defenses has minimized the free safety’s role as a deep middle defender, but top-notch safeties continue to impact the game as umbrella defenders. With deep defenders instructed to keep the ball in front of them and make their plays on tips or overthrown passes, the job description no longer prioritizes playmaking as it used to. Three of the best:Minkah Fitzpatrick, New York JetsJalen Ramsey, Pittsburgh SteelersKevin Byard, New England Patriots 19. Nickel Cornerback The Nickel, or “Star,” position features a collection of hybrid players utilizing a diverse set of skills to get the job done. Whether it is a cornerback aligned in the slot to lock down WR3s, while also enhancing the pass rush as a second-level blitzer, or a safety aligned in the box to match up with tight ends or act as an additional run defender, the slot corner position has become a key spot on a championship-caliber defense. Three of the best:Marlon Humphrey, Baltimore RavensKenny Moore II, Indianapolis ColtsNick Emmanwori, Seattle Seahawks 18. Right Guard Playing on the right side of the line is all about the production in the running game. Big, physical interior blockers with nimble feet are featured prominently on gap-scheme runs, with the guard instructed to down block or pull around the corner to nail second-level defenders on the run. Three of the best:Trey Smith, Kansas City ChiefsQuinn Meinerz, Denver BroncosChris Lindstrom, Atlanta Falcons 17. Left Guard The tone-setters for most offensive lines are positioned on the interior. While the list below features heavy-handed interior blockers with the size, strength and balance to bully defenders at the point of attack, the athleticism of a left guard enables teams to incorporate zone-based run calls to attack the perimeter from every angle. Three of the best:Quenton Nelson, Indianapolis ColtsJoe Thuney, Chicago BearsTyler Smith, Dallas Cowboys 16. Center Controlling the game from the middle of the line is the most important part of the center’s role. From making all the calls and adjustments at the line of scrimmage to stalemating the monstrous nose tackle, the center’s ability to win his matchup utilizing his brains and brawn is a big part of his team’s success. Three of the best:Creed Humphrey, Kansas City ChiefsAaron Brewer, Miami DolphinsTyler Linderbaum, Las Vegas Raiders 15. Right Cornerback As more offensive coordinators embrace a pass-heavy approach with quarterbacks and pass-catchers playing “pitch-and-catch” on the perimeter, defensive coaches are placing a greater value on blind-side cover guys. With right cornerbacks assigned to cover the “X” against 3×1 formations — isolating a corner against a receiver while the rest of the defense focuses on the three-receiver side — the position features blue-chip personnel on an elite defense. Three of the best:Patrick Surtain, Denver BroncosJaycee Horn, Carolina PanthersChristian Gonzalez, New England Patriots 14. Weak-side Linebacker The presence and impact of a disruptive linebacker with elite “hit, run and cover” skills is undervalued. Teams want to feature more dynamic, second-level athletes prominently in the blitz game and as a part of tricky coverages designed to cloud the picture for quarterbacks. Three of the best:Devin Lloyd, Carolina PanthersZack Baun, Philadelphia EaglesDre Greenlaw, San Francisco 49ers 13. Tight End The number of basketball-like athletes thriving at the tight end spot has changed how some offensive coordinators approach the game, particularly with multi-tight-end formations creating chaos for defensive playcallers across the league. By placing multiple big-bodied pass-catchers in run-heavy and bunch formations, offensive wizards are using athletic tight ends to dictate coverage matchups and create big-play opportunities in the passing game. Three of the best:Brock Bowers, Las Vegas Raiders Trey McBride, Arizona CardinalsGeorge Kittle, San Francisco 49ers 12. Strong Safety The box-area defender has gained importance due to the emergence of the ultra-athletic pass-catching tight end down the seams and the dual-threat quarterback in the backfield. With the super-sized safeties possessing cornerback-like cover skills and “hit-stick” abilities like a linebacker, there is a reason more teams are utilizing various multi-safety personnel packages with the strong safety deployed near the box. Three of the best:Derwin James, Los Angeles ChargersKyle Hamilton, Baltimore Ravens Budda Baker, Arizona Cardinals 11. Mike Linebacker Despite the diminished role of the running game, defensive coordinators continue to prioritize high-IQ “MIKE” backers as essential parts of the defensive puzzle. With the middle linebacker expected to serve as the traffic cop and enforcer between the hashes, the job requires an athletic playmaker with hit, run and cover skills between the tackles. Three of the best:Roquan Smith, Baltimore RavensFred Warner, San Francisco 49ersCarson Schwesinger, Cleveland Browns 10. Running Back The devaluation of the running back by some coaches and systems has flipped the league on its head, but astute offensive minds are creating and exploiting mismatches with their RB1. If the running back can put points on the board as a runner and receiver, he becomes a key chess piece for offensive coordinators to utilize in pivotal situations. Three of the best:Christian McCaffrey, San Francisco 49ersBijan Robinson, Atlanta FalconsJahmyr Gibbs, Detroit Lions 9. Right Tackle As defensive coordinators began placing elite pass rushers at left defensive end/left outside linebacker to take advantage of heavy-footed right tackles, offensive gurus quickly adjusted by installing ultra-athletic pass blockers on the right side. Three of the best:Penei Sewell, Detroit LionsLane Johnson, Philadelphia EaglesJoe Alt, Los Angeles Chargers 8. Wide Receiver 2 Most offenses need a specialist to fill the role opposite the No. 1 receiver. Whether the WR2 is a speedster acting as the designated vertical threat or a chain mover expected to handle the dirty work between the hashes, the backside receiver is a valuable asset to the potent passing game. Three of the best:George Pickens, Dallas CowboysTee Higgins, Cincinnati BengalsDeVonta Smith, Philadelphia Eagles 7. Designated Pass Rusher 2 The top defenses typically feature a Batman and Robin combination on the edges to share the pass-rushing duties. Though the sidekick lacks some of the elite pass-rushing tools of his partner, the best complementary rushers possess the speed or power to routinely win their one-on-one matchups when opponents send the protection to the DPR1’s side. Three of the best:Danielle Hunter, Houston TexansChase Young, New Orleans SaintsJared Verse, Los Angeles Rams 6. Defensive Tackle The presence of an interior pass rusher is an essential part of the defensive puzzle in a passing league. As more teams utilize various quick-rhythm throws to negate the outside pass rush, the presence of an athletic defensive tackle with pass-rush skills disrupts the quarterback’s play within the pocket. Three of the best:Jeffery Simmons, Tennessee TitansChris Jones, Kansas City Chiefs Jalen Carter, Philadelphia Eagles 5. Left Cornerback Facing a barrage of throws in his direction requires elite cover skills and a fighter’s mentality. Although some of the blue-chip corners will “travel” with the opponent’s No. 1 receiver, the traditional approach places the defense’s top cornerback on the left side. Three of the best:Devon Witherspoon, Seattle Seahawks Derek Stingley Jr., Houston TexansQuinyon Mitchell, Philadelphia Eagles 4. Wide Receiver 1 The NFL’s transformation to a passing league has made perimeter playmakers essential pieces to the championship puzzle. With WR1s capable of making their mark against loaded zones or double coverage, the presence of an elite pass-catcher makes life easier for the quarterback and the offense’s supporting cast. Three of the best:Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Seattle SeahawksJa’Marr Chase, Cincinnati BengalsPuka Nacua, Los Angeles Rams 3. Left Tackle Finding an elite blindside protector is a top priority for team-builders with a franchise quarterback in the lineup. As the league continues to primarily feature right-handed passers, the left tackle spot remains one of the marquee positions on the team. Three of the best:Tristan Wirfs, Tampa Bay BuccaneersTrent Williams, San Francisco 49ersJordan Mailata, Philadelphia Eagles 2. Designated Pass Rusher 1 Knocking down the quarterback early and often is the top priority of defensive coordinators around the league. By disrupting the timing and rhythm of the passing game with their persistent pressure, blue-chip pass rushers can single-handedly destroy offensive game plans while protecting the rest of the defense. Three of the best:Myles Garrett, Cleveland BrownsAidan Hutchinson, Detroit LionsMicah Parsons, Green Bay Packers 1. Quarterback There is no disputing the impact of the quarterback’s play on the outcome of games. The elite quarterbacks not only tilt the field in their team’s favor, but they also have the ability to rescue their team with late-game heroics. Today in History; Great Alaska Earthquake shook Alaska 62 years ago

Fourth Avenue in Anchorage, Alaska, looking east from near C Street. The southern edge of one of several landslides in Anchorage, this one covered an area of over a dozen blocks, including five blocks along the north side of Fourth Avenue. Most of the area was razed and made an urban renewal district.

AP-Electric clocks on walls in Anchorage shut down at 5:36 p.m. on March 27, 1964. Time stopped at the start of the ’64 Great Alaska Earthquake, the second largest ever recorded at magnitude 9.2.

The ground shook for four to five minutes, roughly twice through “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” the Beatles No. 1 song that year. With the U.S. and the USSR facing off in the Cold War, some thought the Russians had attacked. The quake produced a tsunami that wreaked havoc along the West Coast. Overall damage was estimated at $2.3 billion in 2014 dollars. The quake and tsunamis killed 131 people.

Though now a distant memory, it helped make experts better prepared for future quakes. It played a role in the formation of the West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center and taught the U.S. Geological Survey what evidence to look for of previous great quakes, such as events in the Cascadia Subduction Zone off Oregon and Washington.

Geologists have a name for such strong earthquakes — megathrusts.

Plate tectonic theory says the Earth’s crust is made up of about a dozen major plates that rest on hot mantle. The thin, dense, Pacific Plate at Alaska’s southern edge moves at a shallow angle beneath the North American Plate at average rate of 2.3 inches (5.8 centimeters) per year and eventually is reabsorbed by mantle. Strain builds up until there’s a slip.

The Moment Magnitude scale rates quakes by the energy they release by calculating the area of fault rupture, the average amount of slip, and the force required to overcome the friction sticking the rocks together, according to the USGS. Every whole number higher on the scale represents 30 times the energy of the previous number.

More energy was released in the 1964 magnitude 9.2 quake than all other recorded Alaska quakes combined, said USGS research geologist Peter Haeussler. And drilling showed evidence of nine such megathrusts in south-central Alaska in 5,500 years. The average time span between them: 600 years.

The temblor caused two kinds of waves: local and trans-ocean tsunamis.

Eighty-five of the 106 Alaska tsunami deaths were caused by waves generated by underwater landslides. Rivers flowing into Alaska fjords build up huge deltas of unstable sediment on deep, underwater slopes, said USGS research geologist Rob Witter. Slides generate waves like a rock dropped in a pond.

During local tsunamis, water can at first retreat from shore in response to the underwater slide, then rush back. That’s what happened at Port Valdez. When the water swept back in, it smashed a freighter into the city dock. Longshoremen and children who had assembled to catch oranges or candy tossed down from the crew were killed. Thirty-two people died.

The great quake also rumpled the ocean floor like a rug, creating a trans-ocean tsunami. The deadly waves traveled down the West Coast. Four campers on a beach died at Newport, Ore. A dozen died in the northern California community of Crescent City.
