Long-running country music event, Watershed Festival, has announced it will take a hiatus in 2026, joining a growing list of festivals opting to pause this year.
The festival, which took place at the picturesque The Gorge Amphitheatre in George, Washington, shared the unfortunate news with fans on social media, confirming that Watershed will not return in 2026.
“After 13 incredible years of country music and community at The Gorge, we wanted to be the first to let you know that Watershed will be taking a hiatus in 2026,” the statement read. “Any future plans will be announced accordingly.”
Watershed Music Festival ran for 13 years and hosted a wide range of country superstars throughout its run, including Miranda Lambert, Jason Aldean, Kane Brown, Dierks Bentley, Bailey Zimmerman, Luke Bryan, Old Dominion, and many more.
This marks a growing trend among country music festivals, following the cancellation of Faster Horses Festival in 2025. At the time, Faster Horses reassured fans, stating, “We are taking the year to make plans for a bigger and better Faster Horses for our fans who deserve the absolute best.”
As of now, Faster Horses has yet to announce plans for a 2026 return.
Meanwhile, the newly launched Iron Hills Country Music Festival was canceled before it ever took place in 2025, citing “rising costs and lower-than-expected ticket sales.” The Field & Stream Music Fest, originally scheduled for 2024 and 2025, was also ultimately scrapped, with refunds issued to ticketholders. Organizers pointed to “circumstances beyond our control” as the reason for the cancellation.
These events join Country Jam Colorado, which announced a pause for 2026 in order to “re-evaluate and plan for the future.”
Not every festival is facing uncertainty. Country Thunder recently announced its first-ever beachfront festival, while events like Barefoot Country Music Festival, Stagecoach, Tortuga Music Festival, and others have already revealed star-packed lineups for 2026.
Whether the country music festival market is becoming oversaturated or other factors are at play remains to be seen. Either way, the pauses and cancellations mark a disappointing loss for country music fans.
