Kellie Pickler made a triumphant return to the stage on American Idol Monday evening, performing alongside finalist Hannah Harper and marking her first public appearance in over two years.
Pickler’s appearance came during a special 20th High School Reunion-themed episode, which brought back several contestants from the Class of 2006, including Pickler, Bucky Covington, Taylor Hicks, Paris Bennett, and Elliott Yamin.
The moment carried extra meaning as Pickler joined Harper for a performance of “A Broken Wing,” the same Martina McBride song she sang during her American Idol audition two decades ago at just 19 years old.

Pickler went on to advance in the competition, winning over viewers with her sweet Southern charm and ultimately placing sixth. She released her debut album, Small Town Girl, later that year on October 31, 2006. The project was anchored by her breakout single “Red High Heels” and also featured fan favorites like “Things That Never Cross a Man’s Mind” and the deeply personal “I Wonder,” which reflected on her tumultuous childhood and her absent relationship with her mother.
She also scored a major success with her Platinum-certified single, “Best Days of Your Life,” from her self-titled sophomore album. Later, she released two additional albums 100 Proof (2012) and The Woman I Am (2013).
In May 2013, Pickler and her partner Derek Hough took home the Mirrorball Trophy, winning Season 16 of Dancing With the Stars. She was later inducted into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame.
From 2017 to 2019, Pickler co-hosted the nationally syndicated talk show Pickler & Ben, which earned five Emmy nominations. She has also expanded into acting, appearing in a variety of films and TV shows, including Christmas at Graceland, The Mistletoe Secret, 90210, Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk, and Wedding at Graceland.
Kellie Pickler has largely stayed out of the public eye in recent years. Her last public appearance came in April 2024, when she stepped onto the stage at the Ryman Auditorium for a tribute performance honoring Patsy Cline. The moment marked her first appearance since the passing of her husband, songwriter Kyle Jacobs, who died at the couple’s Nashville home on February 17, 2023.
Monday night’s episode also featured original Idol judges Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson, appearing as guest judge and guest mentor, respectively. Dancing with the Stars pros, adding a touch of ballroom flair to the celebration, while America voted live to narrow the Top 5 down to the Top 3.
The American Idol grand finale is set for May 11, 2026, when the remaining finalists will take the stage one last time to earn America’s votes. Alicia Keys will serve as guest mentor and perform, with additional “music legends” set to be announced soon.

Bucky Covington returned to the American Idol stage on Monday, teaming up with finalist Chris Tungseth to perform “The Thunder Rolls,” the iconic hit made famous by Garth Brooks.
Covington was one of several members of the Idol Class of 2006 who returned for the show’s 20th reunion, alongside Kellie Pickler, Taylor Hicks, Paris Bennett, and Elliott Yamin, all of whom appeared to duet with contestants from this season’s Top 5.
Covington and Tungseth brought the dramatic storyline of “The Thunder Rolls” to life on the Idol stage, delivering a powerful performance that paid tribute to the country classic.
The moment marked a full-circle return for Covington, who originally performed the song during the American Idol semi-finals on March 1, 2006. Nearly two decades later, he revisited the track on the same stage alongside a new generation of contestants.
Now 48, Covington ultimately placed eighth during Season 5 of American Idol. Following his time on the show, he signed with Lyric Street Records and released his self-titled debut album on April 17, 2007. The project debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and produced charting singles including A Different World, It’s Good to Be Us, and I’ll Walk. He also earned recognition for songs like A Father’s Love (The Only Way He Knew How). Although a follow-up album was expected, the closure of Lyric Street Records ultimately ended that chapter of his recording career.
Covington also made a memorable appearance in Hannah Montana: The Movie.
According to a press release, Covington is now preparing to return to the studio to record new music this year and is also planning an acoustic tour.

Kane Brown has revealed he may be releasing his take on a country music classic this summer.
During an interview at the iHeartCountry Festival 2026, the country superstar was asked, “If you could release any cover song what would it be?” After taking a moment to think about his answer, Brown landed on a Shania Twain hit from 1995. But instead of just naming a dream pick, he hinted that his version could actually be recorded and released as soon as this summer.
“So I got a song sent to me and it was a, I guess an interpolation, is what you call it, but it was of ‘Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under’ and it’s fire and I thought about cutting it and releasing it for this summer. So we’ll see. Pretty cool though,” he teased.
It’s not surprising that Brown would be interested in tapping into a classic from Twin’s catalog because he has made it very clear over the years that he is a big fan of the superstar and has made multiple claims that he is interested in teaming up for a duet.
Back in 2020, he told ET Canada that the “Man! I Feel Like A Woman” singer is a dream collaboration of his. Around that time had been branching outside of country music to cut music with artists like Marshmello, John Legend, Swae Lee and more, but the country icon still remained in the back of his mind.
“I think I’m gonna have to go for like uh…Shania Twain. Ya know? ‘Cause we’ve done so many pop collabs recently I think I want some country collabs to complete this mixtape,” Brown shared.
Brown’s dream seemed to be close to becoming a reality as his interview caught Twain’s attention shortly after he made the statement.

A few years later in 2023, the “Woman” singer once again brought Twain’s name into the conversation, this time crediting her for being a female act who influenced him.
“My mom was a huge fan of hers, so I’ve grown up listening to all her music and I actually met her one time and I talked about doing a song with her,” he recalled, according to 104.9 Max Country. “So, it’d be cool if we got to do it. But yeah, she influenced me the most as a female.”
Unfortunately, fans have still yet to see the two get in the studio together.
The two artists will, however, be in the same place at the same time in about two weeks at the 61st ACM Awards. Shania Twain will be hosting the show, taking place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on Sunday, May 17, while Brown will take the stage to perform.
The star-studded night will stream live exclusively for a global audience across 240+ countries and territories on Prime Video at 8 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. CT / 5 p.m. PT.
