Michael McKee: Surgeon Charged in Ohio Double Murder Dodged Abuse, Malpractice Allegations

Reading Time: 3 minutes

On December 30, Spencer and Monique Tepe were shot dead in their home.

Monique’s first husband, a vascular surgeon named Michael David McKee, has now been arrested for the murders.

And as evidence against McKee mounts, new information reveals a checkered past filled with scandal and abusive behavior.

Michael McKee has been arrested for the murders of Spencer and Monique Tepes.

According to a new statement from Columbus Police Chief Elaine Bryant, McKee had the murder weapon in his possession at the time of his arrest.

“Multiple weapons were taken from the property of McKee, and there is a preliminary link to one of the weapons that ties it to the homicides,” Bryant said in a press conference held Wednesday (per The New York Post).

“What we can say, this was a targeted attack. This was a domestic violence-related attack, as we know McKee is the ex-husband of Monique Tepe,” she added.

“We believe at this point we have the person responsible for the murders of Monique and Spencer Tepe, and that person is Michael McKee.”

Today’s update comes on the heels of a series of startling updates about McKee’s past.

Multiple reports now indicate that McKee had been behaving erratically and dodging legal trouble for the past several years.

Rob Misleh, who is married to Monique’s sister, recently revealed that she ended their marriage abruptly after experiencing profound emotional abuse.

“Monique was very vocal about being terrified of this guy [till her death],” Misleh tells People.

“He was very emotionally abusive to her, to the point that it changed her as a person,” Misleh alleges.

And Monique isn’t the only one who had firsthand knowledge of McKee’s dark side.

According to a Las Vegas-based attorney named Dan Laird, McKee spent several years employing shady tactics to avoid a malpractice lawsuit.

McKee tells WSYX in Cincinnati that the surgeon used fake addresses and “questionable” state-issued phone numbers to avoid being served with subpoenas.

“Interestingly, the address that was given to us by the surgery group that he worked for turned out to be a fake address,” Laird told the outlet, referencing Las Vegas Surgical Associates LLP.

“It was an address that doesn’t exist.”

Laird says his client accused McKee of failing to properly train a physician’s assistant, and the situation resulted in an emergency surgery to correct the damage.

The attorney went on to state that he was stunned by McKee’s alleged attempts to avoid accountability, and that he had never encountered such behavior from a doctor before.

“They tend to be highly responsible people. They’re not the kind of people who just disappeared suddenly, and this was very surprising to us,” Laird told the outlet.

The Tepe’s two children, ages 1 and 4, were at home at the time of the murders, but were not harmed.

We will have further updates on this developing story as new information becomes available.

Harrel Braddy Again Facing Execution After Throwing 5-Year-Old Girl to Alligators in 1998

Reading Time: 4 minutes

This is one of the most disturbing criminal cases that we’ve read in some time.

It is also a troubling legal case for different reasons.

In 1998, a man in Florida kidnapped a young mother and her child.

He abandoned the 5-year-old in the Everglades, where she was devoured by alligators. Now, he is once again facing the death penalty.

Be warned, this is an extremely upsetting story

On November 7, Harrel Braddy kidnapped Shandelle Maycock and her 5-year-old daughter, Quatisha Maycock.

Apparently, he had befriended Shandelle because they were part of the same church.

As with so many crimes against women, he apparently flew into a rage when Shandelle turned down his advances and asked him to leave her home.

According to court testimony, he beat Shandelle and left her by a highway. He strangled her until she became unconscious, and she only awoke the following day.

Braddy dumped Quatisha into the water in the Everglades. This was along a stretch of road with the nickname of Alligator Alley.

Most alligators do not generally view healthy, able-bodied, adult humans as potential food sources.

A panicked 5-year-old child abandoned in the Everglades would be an entirely different matter.

Days later, fisherman discovered Quatisha’s remains. Her entire body had been mauled by alligators.

According to prosecutors, her left arm was missing and her skull had been crushed. The office of the medical examiner determined that the arm likely came off after she died, but that some of the bites were perimortem — though she may have been unconscious at the time.

Braddy told detectives that he “knew she would probably die” when he abandoned her there. He was right.

The legal case was prolonged and complex

Braddy’s trial took nine years, in part because he cycled through as many as ten attorneys.

(The court ultimately heard testimony about his lengthy criminal career, involving multiple cases of kidnapping, including of a corrections officer, and other crimes such as home invasion)

The trial had its issues. For example, Braddy’s rights were violated during the investigation. He had also apparently tried to escape from one of the interview rooms before finally agreeing to help detectives locate the body.

The jury found Braddy guilty of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, two counts of kidnapping, burglary of a structure with an assault or battery therein, child neglect causing great bodily harm, and attempted escape.

On August 31, 2007, the jury voted eleven to one to recommend the death sentence. The trial court held a hearing on the matter and sentenced Braddy to die.

In 2017, ten years after his conviction, the Florida Supreme Court vacated the death sentence.

At the time, jury verdicts needed to be unanimous in death penalty cases. Braddy’s jury was not quite unanimous in their sentencing recommendation.

In 2023, Florida’s infamous governor, Ron DeSantis, signed a law lowering that threshold from unanimous to 8-4.

This means that Braddy is once again facing the death penalty. In recent months, two others have received similar resentencings.

(As it stands, he already has multiple life sentences and more)

The death penalty is about more than just one evil man

Braddy’s crimes are horrific, and follow a long history of unthinkable violence against people of all walks of life.

(This man’s criminal record goes back to before I was born, and to before Quatisha Maycock was born)

Sometimes, people reduce the death penalty debate to whether evil should exist, and whether people who do evil should die — whether the world is better without evil people in it.

Ultimately, however, that is not the death penalty question. Capital punishment comes down to whether we trust the state and every step of an investigation, from police to jury selection to politicians setting sentencing guidelines, to condemn someone to die in this manner.

No reasonable person will mourn Braddy. But the vast majority of people on death row have done nothing as evil as the crimes for which he has been convicted. Some are innocent.

Nikki Glaser Reveals ‘Cut’ Sydney Sweeney ‘Lesbian’ Joke

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Not every jokes makes it into the Golden Globes.

After Nikki Glaser’s recent backlash, perhaps a little editing was a good idea on her part.

As it turns out, one of her jokes was an unkind jab over Sydney Sweeney’s lesbian biopic.

However, it’s no longer a secret. Nikki’s sharing it now.

The Golden Globes may be our least serious mainstream award show

On Sunday, January 11, the Golden Globes took place.

Nikki Glaser got on stage and roasted plenty of big names.

It’s all part of what may be the silliest mainstream awards show.

But, as she is now revealing, she held back a little.

Sydney Sweeney was one of those whose joke didn’t make it into the show. She also had jabs for Brad Pitt and Sean Penn that audiences never heard.

Nikki joined The Howard Stern Show to discuss her Golden Globes zingers — and the ones that we never heard.

She told the controversial talk show host about what people might have heard (and about why they didn’t).

Nikki recited her joke for Stern and for listeners.

“People just aren’t going to the theater to see things,” she quipped.

“If you don’t believe me, there was a movie this year where Sydney Sweeney played a lesbian who just bounced around in tiny shorts for two hours,” Nikki continued, “and it made $14.”

‘Christy’ did not rake in billions at the box office

That joke is, of course, about Christy.

In the film, Sydney Sweeney portrayed legendary boxer Christy Martin.

Though Nikki is deliberately misrepresenting the film (which is a biopic and covers domestic violence and more), that, too, is part of the joke.

And it’s true that the film was a box office bomb.

Biopics are sometimes commercial successes. This one was not. Sydney likely wanted more artistic representation for Christy.

As Nikki explained it, she didn’t do the joke for one simple reason:

Sydney did not actually attend this year’s Golden Globes.

Sometimes, people who are receiving awards cannot make it. Filming schedules and real life emergencies can and do happen.

In this case, well, there was really no need for her to show up.

Notably, the Golden Globes snubbed her.

‘Christy’ was never going to be a blockbuster

Sydney Sweeney knew that Christy wasn’t going to blow up at the box office.

It’s a biopic, striving for authenticity and artistry, not for mainstream popularity.

Meanwhile, her most recent film has been such a success that a sequel has already received the green light.

With that in mind, we think that Sydney can take some jabs (not an intentional boxing pun, but it works).

With or without commercial success, she can make headlines and heads spin wherever she goes.

Sydney Sweeney’s OnlyFans Storyline Revealed In ‘Euphoria’ Season 3 …

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Putting “Sydney Sweeney” and “OnlyFans” in the same sentence is a surefire way to stir up interest on social media.

And Euphoria showrunner Sam Levinson might have had that in mind when he came up Sydney’s storyline for the show’s third season.

Yes, the first trailer for Euphoria Season 3 dropped today, and it seems that Sydney’s character, Cassie, is now engaged to Nate Jacobs and creating adult content for a living.

Sydney Sweeney's Cassie is an adult content creator in the first trailer for Euphoria Season 3.

Cassie seems to have found a very specific niche, as the two scenes that show her posing for the camera also show her dressed as a dog.

At one point, she quite literally shakes her tail, a moment that’s sure to be heavily GIF-ed in the weeks to come.

There was a time when a third season of Euphoria seemed unlikely, despite the show’s popularity.

After all, several members of the show’s cast — including Sydney and her onscreen fiancé, Jacob Elordi — have gone on to become major stars, and there were concerns that they might not want to return to the small-screen high school that made them famous.

And the last season, aired back in 2022, meaning that the cast — most of him are now approaching 30 — would be somewhat less believable as high school students, presenting producers with a Stranger Things-esque dilemma.

Well, we might never know how Levinson solved the first problem, but he came up with a clever workaround for the second:

According to a voice-over from Zendaya’s Rue, the narrative picks up “several years” after high school.

Nate is working construction, Rue is still mixed up in the world of hard drugs (although she appears to be clinging to sobriety), Maddie is stripping, Jules is a “sugar baby,” and Cassie, of course, is creating furry content.

Needless to say, things haven’t worked out as planned for the telegenic graduates of East Highland High School.

But the time jump will undercut one major criticism of the show — namely that the storylines involving large-scale drug smuggling and international crime syndicates were starting to seem ridiculous in the context of a show about suburban high schoolers.

Zendaya remains the moral and narrative center of the show, but Sydney has become arguably the most famous actress on the planet since the days Euphoria Season 2, so expect much of this week’s trailer discourse to revolve around Cassie.

Sadly, the trailer serves to remind us that one of the show’s breakout stars, Angus Cloud, passed away in 2023.

Barbie Ferreira will also not be returning, having reportedly clashed with Levinson on set.

Euphoria Season 3 will debut on HBO and HBO Max on April 12.

Nick Reiner Attorney Breaks Silence on Sudden Withdrawal From Case

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Last week, famed defense attorney Alan Jackson withdrew from Nick Reiner’s case just hours before Reiner was due in court for his arraignment.

The news came as a shock to many, and the judge in Reiner’s case was forced to postpone the arraignment.

A week later, Reiner is still being represented by a public defender — an extreme rarity in a celebrity murder case — and Jackson is finally breaking his silence on this bizarre situation.

Appearing on Billy Bush’s “Hot Mic” podcast, Jackson gave his first interview since his withdrawal from the case.

Unfortunately, he cited attorney-client privilege as his reason for providing very little detail.

“That’s a confidential communication between a lot of folks that I’m not willing to disclose,” Jackson explained (per Page Six).

While he refused to go into specifics, he noted that the withdrawal was not the result of a payment issue.

“You can’t say that something happened with the retainer because I’ve never said that,” Jackson explained, adding:

“Obviously, something happened with my ability, and my team’s ability, to continue the representation, but I don’t want you, your audience or anybody else to start speculating as to what that might be. I have not said a word about it.”

He also noted that he definitively will not be returning to Reiner’s defense team, saying:

“Once I’m done, I’m done. I’ve withdrawn.”

As for how he came to represent Reiner in the first place, Jackson revealed that he received a phone call in the “very early hours of December 15.″ He refused to identify the caller.

“I have to show fealty and loyalty to the confidentiality that attends that kind of phone call … I can tell you that immediately thereafter, I dropped everything,” he told Bush.

“I sent out a notice to my team here back in Los Angeles … I got on a flight nearly immediately.”

Reiner, of course, has been charged with the murders of his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner.

He is currently being held without bail and is due back in court for on February 23, at which time he’ll finally be arraigned.

Jackson has represented numerous famous clients, including, most recently, Karen Read, who was acquitted of the murder of her police officer husband last year.

We will have further updates on this developing story as new information becomes available.
