As we previously reported, James Van Der Beek has passed away following a long, courageous battle with colorectal cancer.
He was just 48 years old.
News of James’ passing came courtesy of his wife Kimberly:
“Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed peacefully this morning. He met his final days with courage, faith, and grace,” she wrote on Instagram.
“There is much to share regarding his wishes, love for humanity and the sacredness of time. Those days will come. For now we ask for peaceful privacy as we grieve our loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend.”
While no one has been more affected by James’ loss than his wife and six children, the beloved star touched countless lives during his tragically brief time on earth.
And many of his famous friends and colleagues have paid tribute to this one-of-a-kind talent:
“I’m so sad for your beautiful family,” wrote Sarah Michelle Gellar, who starred on Buffy the Vampire Slayer the same time that James was headlining Dawson’s Creek (via Variety).
“While James’ legacy will always live on, this is a huge loss to not just your family but the world. F–k Cancer.”
“Sending love and light to your beautiful family. James was a giant,” fellow early 2000s icon Chad Michael Murray chimed in.
“We’re so so so sorry for what you’re going through. His words, art and humanity inspired all of us- he inspired us to be better in all ways. God bless you guys.”
“I’m so devastated. He is and will always be family to me. Love you so much James. The man that you are, you can be proud of. So grateful that I got to be there to say goodbye to you,” wrote Emma Slater, who competed with James on Season 28 of Dancing With the Stars.
“Love you, James. I know you’re in Heaven being pampered with love,” wrote Paul Walter Hauser, who raised thousands for Van Der Beek’s cancer treatments.
“The Van Der Beeks will be in our daily prayers and we’ll be drumming up some money to support your beautiful family. Thanks for the body of work and for being one of the good guys.”
“Spending these final days with you has been a true gift from God.
I have never been so present in my life.
When you know time is sacred, you don’t waste a single breath,” wrote James friend and fellow actor Stacy Kiebler.
“You don’t rush. You don’t scroll. You don’t worry about tomorrow. You sit. You listen. You hold hands. You watch the sky change colors and you let it change you too.”

We all want the good news.
Though things are not quite as bad as they sounded when her father spoke, she is not yet cancer free.
However, Teddi Mellencamp’s latest cancer update explains the fluctuations in good news and bad news about her health that we’ve been hearing.
She’s the first to acknowledge that she’s been suffering.
This is a positive cancer update
On Wednesday, February 11, Teddi spoke to Page Six‘s Virtual Reali-Tea to deliver a health update.
“I think physically, I’m in a good place,” she expressed.
Referring to her father’s alarming comments, she clarified: “I think what he was saying when he said ‘suffering’ is what we don’t often talk about when it comes to cancer.”
Teddi explained that the suffering “is how you feel after all of the surgeries and all of the testing … how your mental state is doing.”
She acknowledged: “And that has been suffering.”
“I’ve been in therapy,” Teddi revealed of how she has worked to cope.
“I’ve been working really hard trying to figure out, find that peace, find that happiness, find that joy, find myself again,” she expressed.
It has now been nearly three-and-a-half years since Teddi disclosed her stage 2 melanoma diagnosis back in October 2022.
Since that time, she has undergone over a dozen surgeries — including last year’s brain surgery — to combat the cancer’s growth.
“Going onto surgery, I didn’t even know what was happening,” Teddi admitted. “I went in thinking I had a headache.”
Is she in remission?
“I was working the Super Bowl with Tamra [Judge] and then the next day I went in to the hospital thinking I had migraines,” Teddi recalled, referring to the 2025 Super Bowl.
“And that’s when they found the tumors in my brain and my lungs,” she detailed.
“So it’s not something that I thought about for months leading up to it,” Teddi clarified. “It’s just, ‘Oh, OK, you’re in surgery the next day.’”
Since then, there has been good news. In October 2025, Teddi reported that there was no longer any detectable trace of cancer in her system.
But does that mean that she’s in remission?
As Teddi has previously explained, it will take time — possibly years — before doctors can safely declare that she is in remission.
That is because previously undetected remnants of the cancer can again begin to grow.
Which is what fans had feared had happened after John Mellencamp described her as “suffering” during a recent interview.
“He hates seeing me go through anything,” Teddi explained of her father’s state of mind as he set off alarm bells.
She knows that she has to remain vigilant
“People talk about being strong,” Teddi reflected.
“But sometimes,” she opined, “strength is admitting you’re still figuring it out.”
She’s right about that.
Teddi recently did a stint on The Masked Singer, a show that perpetually feels like a parody of television.
Some people feel that they can best combat cancer by pushing themselves. So long as they don’t overextend themselves, they’re often right.
We hope that Teddi is listening to her doctors and to her body.

As you’ve almost certainly heard by now, some of the world’s most famous names appear in the Epstein files.
And most of them have been doing everything they can to distance themselves from the deceased sex trafficker.
But while people like Prince Andrew will be linked to Epstein forever, guys like Joe Rogan will have a much easier time clearing their names.
Yes, Rogan is mentioned in the Epstein files.
But unlike Donald Trump, Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, Howard Lutnick, and the other rich and powerful men whose names are associated with Epstein, Rogan doesn’t seem to have anything to worry about.
The wildly popular comic host addressed the matter on the latest episode of his podcast, during a conversation with actress (and RFK Jr. spouse) Cheryl Hines.
“I’m in the files for not going,” Rogan claimed.
“Jeffrey Epstein was trying to meet with me. And I was like, what? Like, no thanks,” Rogan said.
“Aren’t you glad [you didn’t go]?” Hines asked Rogan.
“It’s not even a possibility that I would’ve ever went, especially after I Googled him,” he replied.
“I was like, what the f— are you talking about? This was like 2017. One of my guests was trying to get me to meet him. I was like, b—h are you high? Like, what the f— are you talking about?”
According to the files, Lawrence Krauss, a physicist who has appeared on Rogan’s show multiple times, was close friends with Epstein.
“I saw you did the Joe =ogan [sic] show, can you introduce me, I think hes =unny [sic],” Epstein wrote in an email to Krauss in 2017 (via Radar Online).
As Epstein had already done time for soliciting a minor for prostitution, Rogan prudently decided not to meet with the man.
He told Hines that he would have had no reason to meet Epstein, as he was now “a guy who is sucking up to the rich and powerful.”
He added that “some people get intoxicated by being in a circle of rich and powerful people, even if they don’t have any ambitions of being one of those people. They just want to be around them.”
Rogan went on to describe Epstein as “very clever,” explained that the financier “was getting all of these very powerful and very respected people together.”
“Yeah. And you would figure like, [former President Bill] Clinton’s here. How could this be bad? You know, he’s a genius,” Rogan added.
So there you have it. Joe Rogan was smart enough to steer clear of the island — so what excuse do these other guys have?

The View has an empty chair for the best reason.
Back in October, we reported that Alyssa Farah Griffin was pregnant.
This joyous news followed years of attempting to conceive.
Now, she and her husband have welcomed their first child. And yes, producers have lined up guest co-hosts while she and her baby bond.
Congratulations!
On Tuesday, February 10, The View co-host Alyssa and her husband, Justin, welcomed their first child.
She gave birth to a son, Justin Patrick Griffin, Jr.
This should come as no real surprise to The View fans.
That very day, Alyssa was absent. And it fell to Whoopi Goldberg to explain to the audience why she was not present.
Alyssa, the EGOT winner explained, had gone into labor.
On Wednesday, February 11, Whoopi once again shared a joyful update.
“The first thing we want to do is start by congratulating Alyssa and her husband Justin on the birth of their baby boy,” she announced.
Whoopi even cited the statistics: “He weighted in at 7 lbs. and 19-and-a-half inches.”
(Is it just us, or did new parents only recently start giving length measurements in addition to weight? When did this become part of the infodump?)
Alyssa even re-shared a clip of Whoopi making the announcement to her Instagram page. Cute!
We all knew that this happy news was coming
Of course, Alyssa going into labor and welcoming her first child is no surprise.
Back in October of 2025, the The View co-host announced her pregnancy.
She and her husband had spent two years trying to conceive.
They went through five rounds of IVF as part of their effort.
Along the way, Alyssa learned that her undiagnosed endometriosis was a contributing factor to her struggles to conceive.
We hope that we do not have to explain that Alyssa will not be returning to work immediately.
Even sitting upright in a chair for a few hours can be a lot when you have just given birth.
(Childbirth is amazing, but it is not glamorous — it involves injuries that take time to heal)
In addition to recovering from childbirth, Alyssa will also be taking this time to bond with her baby.
For these reasons, she’ll be out as a The View co-host for the next few months.
Bring in the rotating guest co-hosts of varying quality
Alyssa’s absence won’t mean that The View is down a panelist.
Instead, we’ll reportedly be seeing rotating guest co-hosts.
Some of them will be welcome faces, like former co-host Abby Huntsman, Whitney Cummings, and Sheryl Underwood.
Others will be more controversial figures, like Trump toady Savannah Chrisley and former The View primary antagonist Elisabeth Hasselbeck.
Fortunately, there’s no reason to believe that this is ABC quietly soft-auditioning a replacement for Alyssa. She’s on maternity leave, and we all look forward to her return.

We have tragic news to report from the world of television today:
James Van Der Beek — the beloved actor best known for his work on Dawson’s Creek — has passed away.
He was just 48 years old.
Van Der Beek had been battling stage 3 colorectal cancer, a fight that he spoke of often in moving social media posts.
News of James’ death comes courtesy of a post from his wife and the mother of his six children, Kimberly Van Der Beek.
“Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed peacefully this morning,” Kimberly wrote.
“He met his final days with courage, faith, and grace. There is much to share regarding his wishes, love for humanity and the sacredness of time,” she continued.
“Those days will come. For now we ask for peaceful privacy as we grieve our loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend.”
One of the most iconic TV stars of the 1990s and early 2000s, Van Der Beek racked up dozens of film and television credits over the course of his career.
But he’s best remembered for his role as Dawson Leery in the beloved coming-of-age drama Dawson’s Creek, which ran for six seasons on the WB.
Early in the show’s run, Van Der Beek made the difficult leap from TV to film stardom with his role in the teen comedy Varsity Blues.
He went on to star in multiple other TV series, including CSI: Cyber and Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23.
James shared news of his cancer diagnosis in November of 2024.
“I have colorectal cancer. I’ve been privately dealing with this diagnosis and have been taking steps to resolve it, with the support of my incredible family,” he told People at the time, adding:
“There’s reason for optimism, and I’m feeling good.”
Throughout his health battle, Van Der Beek was widely praised for his honesty and candor.
“I was away for treatment, so I could no longer be a husband who was helpful to my wife,” he said in an Instagram video posted in March of last year. “I could no longer be a father who could pick up his kids and put them to bed and be there for them. I could not be a provider because I wasn’t working.”
“I was faced with the question, ‘If I am just a too-skinny, weak guy, alone in an apartment with cancer, what am I?’
“I am worthy of God’s love simply because I exist. And if I’m worthy of God’s love, shouldn’t I also be worthy of my own?” he added.
James is survived by his wife, Kimberly, daughters Olivia, Annabel, Emilia, and Gwendolyn, and sons Joshua and Jeremiah.
