We have another Bachelorette-related scandal to report.
And unlike most of the recent controversies, this one has nothing to do with Taylor Frankie Paul’s assault video.
But it’s still bizarre and troubling, and Paul is still indirectly involved (it was still her season, after all).
We now know that one of the men who courted Taylor during her canceled season of The Bachelorette was involved in the car crash that left former congressman Madison Cawthorn paralyzed from the waist down.
Brad Ledford, now 29, was just 17 when he and Cawthorn headed to Florida for spring break in 2014.
Ledford fell asleep behind the wheel on the ride home, leading to a crash that left Cawthorn confined to a wheelchair.
Shortly after Cawthorn became the youngest person ever elected to Congress, Ledford shared his version of events with People.
“The situation was getting worse and worse,” he recalled, adding:
“I remember his leg was pretty badly cut from the accident, and we were sitting on the side of the interstate.
“So, I took my shirt off and wrapped it around his leg and then just kind of stayed with him until the paramedics got there.”
“If it wasn’t for him, Madison would’ve died,” Cawthorn’s father later told a North Carolina media outlet.
But in a 2017 chapel speech, Cawthorn alleged that Ledford had left him “to die in a fiery tomb.”
“He was my brother, my best friend,” Cawthorn said in the speech, adding:
“He runs to safety deep in the woods and just leaves me in a burning car as the flames start to lick my legs and curl up and burn my left side.”
“That statement he made was false,” Ledford later alleged. “It hurt very badly that he would say something as false as that. That is not at all what happened. I pulled him out of the car the second that I was able to get out of the car.”
Ledford was vindicated by a 2017 sworn deposition, in which Cawthorn admitted he had “no memory from the accident.”
Shortly after Cawthorn was sworn into Congress in 2021, Ledford told People that he did not know why his former friend still hadn’t walked back the version of events that he had shared publicly.
“I’m still thinking about it, and trying to figure out how I feel about that, or the best way that I think that should be handled,” Ledford said.
“Obviously, I know what he said to me, and that’s what really matters, right? He’s apologized for that a number of times, and it seems very genuine.”
In a TikTok recorded last month, Ledford added that he harbors no ill will toward Taylor following her string of scandals.
“I will say that I could care less about a TV show not airing right now. There’s real kids involved, real family involved, and I want the best for them. I want the best for Taylor’s kids. I want the best for Taylor,” Ledford said, adding:
“God’s love has no bounds; it knows no boundaries. He’s forgiven me for many things, and he’s already forgiven Taylor.
“I want Taylor to find that peace, and I want her kids to have that peace in the future more than anything, and I think they can, you know, it’s there for them if they want it.”

A tragic story out of Spain has left social media users sharply divided.
A 25-year-old Barcelona resident named Noelia Castillo has been granted legal permission to die by euthanasia.
The decision comes after a yearslong court battle in which her father attempted to prevent her from doing so.
Noelia told the court that she had been coping with crippling depression for years, ever since she was rape by three men at a state-supervised center for vulnerable youth.
The attack was so traumatic that Noelia attempted to end her life by leaping from a fifth-story window.
She survived the fall, but it left her confined to a wheelchair.
Euthanasia has been legal in Spain since 2021, and Noelia tells the outlet Leading Britain’s Conversation that she sees no other way of alleviating her pain.
“I want to go now and stop suffering, period. None of my family is in favor of euthanasia. But what about all the pain I’ve suffered during all these years?” she said, adding:
“I don’t feel like doing anything: not going out, not eating. Sleeping is very difficult for me, and I have back and leg pain.
“I’ve told them how I want it to be. I want to die looking beautiful. I’ve always thought I want to die looking good. I’ll wear my prettiest dress and put on makeup; it will be something simple.”
As for her father’s opposition, Noelia says he “hasn’t respected my decision and he never will.”
“Why does he want me alive? To keep me in a hospital?”
Noelia’s mother, Yolanda Ramos, told Marca that she disagrees with her daughter’s decision, but will support her until the end.
“I do not agree, but I will always be by her side.”
Obviously, this is a very complex issue. Euthanasia was legalized for the purpose of enabling people to put a dignified end to unendurable suffering.
But it’s an option that’s usually pursued by terminal cancer patients, not people who are experiencing profound emotional pain.
Many have been critical of Noelita’s decision for obvious reasons. But at the same time, many of those critics likely could not fathom the pain that this young woman has endured.

As we reported earlier, the second part of Savannah Guthrie’s interview with Hoda Kotb aired on the Today show Thursday morning.
As expected, the entire conversation was a heartbreaking affair, with a tearful Savannah revealing that she feels responsible for her mother’s abduction.
Elsewhere in the interview, Savannah tackled a very difficult topic — namely, the rumors and allegations that have been hurled at her family throughout this ordeal.
“When you talk about the cruel speculation, the whispers, the innuendo that it was somebody in your family, how did you weather that?” Hoda asked.
“It’s unbearable. And it piles pain upon pain. There are no words, there are no words. I don’t understand and I will never understand,” Savannah answered (via The New York Post).
Guthrie went on to note that “no one took better care” of her mother than her sister and brother-in-law, who lived nearby in Tucson.
“And no one protected my mom more than my brother,” she said of her brother, Camron Guthrie.
“And we love her and she is our shining light. She is our matriarch. She’s all we have.”
Savannah added that the video of a masked man outside Nancy Guthrie’s home on the night of her appearance at least seemed to quiet the rumors of an inside job.
Savannah went on to explain that the public attention paid to the case has complicated things in more ways than one.
For example, while she believes that two of the ransom notes the family received were authentic, the rest seem to be nothing but cruel attempts at exploitation.
“There are a lot of different notes, I think that came and I think most of them … are not real and I didn’t see them,” she said, adding:
“But I believe the two notes that we received that we responded to, I tend to believe those are real.”
Later in the interview, Savannah revealed that he family knew from the start that Nancy had not wandered off on her own.
“From the very early moments, Annie and Tommy were saying, ‘This isn’t that case that you are used to where someone wanders off. She can’t wander off,’” Savannah said of her sister and brother-in-law.
“My mom, she was in tremendous pain. Her back was very bad… on a good day, she could walk down to the mailbox and get the mail, but most days not,” she continued, adding:
“So there was no ‘wander off.’ And the doors were propped open and there was blood on the front doorstep and the Ring camera had been ripped off, and so we were saying, ‘This is not okay. Something is very wrong here.’ “
Nearly two months after Nancy’s disappearance, it’s difficult to be optimistic about the odds of her safe return.
But we remain hopeful that Nancy and her siblings will eventually find the answers they’ve been seeking.

This season of Unexpected, no couple is more controversial than Bella Vaughn and her 12-year-old baby daddy.
(He has turned 13 since they conceived, as she is quick to point out. Hooray.)
Now that the baby is here, Bella’s family’s focus is on Bella not being a mother of two.
Bella won’t do birth control. Hunter won’t do condoms. His foolproof plan is anal sex, forever. There’s an unfortunate Farrah Abraham joke in all of this.
Apparently, birth control ‘side effects are stupid’
During the Monday, March 23 episode of Unexpected, one brief scene filled viewers with discomfort and nausea.
(Okay, it was multiple scenes but we’re talking about one in particular.)
15-year-old Bella — and Emi, her sister who also recently became a teenage mother — discussed preventing another pregnancy.
When producers asked, Bella acknowledged that condoms could lower her risk of conceiving. So, too, could ovulation tests.
She didn’t exactly sound too certain about either method, unfortunately. She even added, aloud, a “question mark” after mentioning tracking her ovulation.
“Birth control,” both of Bella’s parents say at the same time — and with the same air of weary resignation.
The 15-year-old, who recently gave birth to Wesley (at least she gave her kid a good name), explained her reluctance.
“The side effects are stupid,” Bella argued.
“And,” she suggested, “knowing me, I’d probably be unlucky and get every single one.”
(We are not doctors, but people who are doctors tend to recommend IUDs or hormonal implants for teens. Long-acting birth control can be very effective, and for some, has fewer side-effects.)
Yes, we’re sure that Hunter would love that
Bella’s father, Kris, suggests that the best form of birth-control might be for Bella and Hunter Johnson to stop having sex altogether.
That ship has obviously sailed. She has a whole baby. Please be serious.
Unfortunately, Hunter’s idea — as Bella shares with the camera — is similarly absurd.
“Hunter would love to do butt sex,” the 15-year-old mother shares with the camera.
Bella explains that this is “because he thinks that is a way to prevent pregnancy and he doesn’t want to wear a condom.”
While anal sex will not result in a pregnancy barring some sort of Final Destination style shenanigans, this is not a long-term solution.
Particularly not for Bella, as she explains.
“But we’re not doing anal sex,” she affirms.
Bella then declares: “That is a one-way poop chute.”
After that indelicate announcement, her mom, Falen, suggests that the young couple should be focusing upon school and other age-appropriate activities — alongside the age-inappropriate activity of being parents — and not have a second child.
These two children sure are being immature about this
Some on social media are expressing their horror at this discussion, or at this discussion being on camera, or in front of her parents, or whatever.
But that’s kind of missing the point.
What Bella is saying about birth control is really immature. That’s probably because she’s 15.
Hunter suggesting that they become an anal-only couple, and his refusal to wear condoms, is even more immature. (No one likes condoms! But you need to be mature enough to wear them.) That’s probably because he’s 13.
As adults, of course we all feel uncomfortable about this scene. Though people Hunter’s age and especially those Bella’s age may discuss things like anal sex and birth control, adults are not really supposed to be part of that conversation.
(Unless those adults are, like, doctors or whatever. Seriously, we hope that Bella makes a mature decision, because it doesn’t sound like Hunter will.)
