Just days after Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson’s unplanned reunion on a flight, he’s talking about old memories. Older memories.
In the ’90s, his boy band went on tour for the first time.
At the time, the record label gave them a guide to the age of consent laws in every state.
Lachey admits that, in retrospect, that sounds shady as heck. And he’s right!
‘This is going to sound super shady’
Lachey is part of the new ID documentary, Boy Band Confidential.
Produced by Joey Fatone of *NSYNC fame, this is a retrospective look at what life was really like for members of the most famous boy bands — and some bands that the world has largely forgotten.
These days, most of us think of Lachey as Jessica Simpson’s ex. And he is!
But he, alongside Jeff Timmons, Justin Jeffre, and Drew Lachey (his brother), comprised the boy band, 98 Degrees.
And, when they first went on tour in 1999, they had a helpful yet “shady” guide. Just in case.
“This is going to sound super shady,” Lachey admits, “but when we first went out, I remember our first tour, someone at the label gave us a book.”
He continued: “And it was the age of consent in every state in the country.”
(As appalling as different laws in different countries already is in our world, different laws in different states is somehow even worse. And yes, age of consent laws vary widely.)
“And, like, we kept that book on the tour bus,” Lachey admitted.
He explained the safeguard, claiming: “Unfortunately, there were people out there looking to tear you down.”
There’s a point where excessive familiarity with the law is … suspicious
Up until that line suggesting that people were out to get 98 Degrees in the ’90s, Lachey’s admission makes sense.
Yes, we know — having a creepy knowledge of age of consent from state to state is usually a red flag.
(Knowing the age of people you’re sleeping with is good and smart. Knowing the minimum age that someone can be for a legal hookup in 50 states and beyond is a predator’s mindset, even if no laws are broken.)
However, the boy band members ages were 21 at the youngest and 24 at the oldest in 1999.
Most of the time, 21-year-olds do not really end up socializing in person with anyone under 18. But, if they do, they should at least know whether or not they’re committing a crime.
Laws regarding age of consent should exist, because 18 as a hard cutoff creates nonsensical injustices.
To be blunt, two high school students should not have to break up just because one of them had a birthday.
At many high schools, it is common for students of different grades to share classes, to socialize, and to date. (And this applies to other situations, like workplaces, where minors and adults may share spaces.)
People who are just a few years apart dating, when one is an adult and another is a minor, is not inherently predatory. But someone who is predatory might take advantage of these laws in order to pursue inexperienced teens.
Something can be entirely legal and entirely creepy at the same time.

Obviously, the contents of the doc will range from the lighthearted to the very serious.
Many boy bands of that era were the targets for massive financial exploitation. People who earned tens of millions were left with scraps.
Additionally, some will touch upon heavy subjects — such as sexual misconduct when they were young stars.
Many of today’s music stars have much better situations, in their contracts and finances, than these boy band members did. They carved out part of the industry, and suffered for it, and paved the way for future singers.

Here’s a run-down of her marital history, what went wrong, and where things stand today.
Eva Longoria & Tyler Christopher (2002-2004)
In 2000, Eva Longoria appeared on the soap opera, General Hospital.
Though she memorably disparaged soap opera work in recent years, she acted on several earlier in her career.
That role, as “Brenda Barrett Lookalike,” spanned only a single episode. however, it was where Longoria met actor Tyler Christopher.
The two went on to marry in 2002. At this time, she was starring on The Young & The Restless.
In 2004, they divorced with little fanfare. Notably, this was the year that Desperate Housewives began. Her role as Gabrielle Solis catapulted Longoria to stardom.
Tragically, Christopher passed away in 2023 following a lengthy battle with alcoholism and a related brain injury, which in turn preceded a period of homelessness.
Eva Longoria & Tony Parker (2007-2010)
In November of 2004, having been fully divorced since January of that year, Eva Longoria met Tony Parker, an athlete playing for a team called the San Antonio Spurs.
Two years later, in November of 2006, the two became engaged. They would go on to marry in 2007.
Following a civil service at city hall, they married in a Catholic wedding on July 7, 2007.
According to Longoria in 2010, she ended up discovering hundreds of texts between Parker and another woman.
(That woman, the world later learned, was allegedly Erin Barry, who was married to Parker’s former teammate at the time)
So, six years after they met, Longoria filed to divorce Parker in November 2010. The contentious divorce involved a battle over jurisdictions, a prenup, and more. However, they managed to finalize the divorce in January of 2011.
She married José Antonio “Pepe” Bastón Patiño in 2016
In December of 2015, the several-years-divorced Eva Longoria announced that she and José Antonio “Pepe” Bastón Patiño were engaged.
The Mexican businessman was the president of Televisa, a sprawling media company. As it turns out, they had met on a blind date through a mutual friend, with Bastón having initially not even known who she was. (Incidentally, she is reportedly by far the wealthier partner)
Longoria and Bastón married on May 21, 2016. In 2018, Longoria welcomed their son. As of late 2024, the two divide their time between Mexico and Spain.

These are strange times in American politics.
We’re at war with Iran; the president’s wife is hosting press conferences about Jeffrey Epstein for some reason, and now presidential offspring are challenging one another to cage fights.
Yes, Hunter Biden revealed this week that he’s eager to square off against Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump in a real-life Celebrity Death Match.
Speaking on social media, Hunter said he’s been in touch with influencer Andrew Callaghan — who recently conducted those bonkers Shia LaBeouf interviews — and the two of them are orchestrating a political battle royale.
“I think he’s trying to organize a cage match, me versus Eric and Don Jr.,” Biden said about Callaghan’s efforts. “I told him I’d do it, 100% in, if he can pull it off.”
In an email to USA Today, Callaghan said that he believed Hunter Biden made the comments “in jest” but that he would be “more than happy to facilitate” the cage fight if Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump are “willing to engage Hunter in mutual combat.”
How would this even work?
Would Hunter take on both Trump brothers at the same time, or would this be a tag team situation?
And if it’s the latter, with whom would Hunter team up?
He should probably be allowed to choose from current Congressional Democrats, but that’s a dicey prospect.
Chuck Schumer and Bernie Sanders probably wouldn’t be much help in the ring.
John Fetterman is massive, but he might switch sides in the middle of the match.
AOC is one of the Trumps’ most-hated Dems, but if Hunter chose her, we’d just end up with another round of gender and sports discourse.
News of the fight (which, sadly, probably won’t happen) comes on the heels of reports that Hunter’s allegations prompted Melania Trump to host an impromptu press conference about the Epstein files.
“Epstein introduced Melania to Trump, the connections are so wide and deep,” Hunter said in 2025 (via USA Today).
The first lady described the claim as “false, disparaging, defamatory and inflammatory.”
Conservative outlets like The New York Post are using this week’s Hunter drama as a reason to dredge up less flattering stories about the former president’s son (because let’s face it, if the roles were reversed and the Trumps were issuing this challenge, the Post would be applauding it).
In their reporting on the cage match, the Post also alleged that Hunter is “too broke to pay his lawyers.”
“Neither we nor our client know the ultimate amount owed,” Biden’s lawyer Barry Coburn acknowledged when reached for comment.
Yes, the Post really buried the freaking cage match story beneath multiple paragraphs about the pay dispute between Hunter and his lawyers.
Look, we may not all agree on much in this country, but hopefully we can still concur that cage matches are awesome and we want this one to happen.

This may be an awkward time for TikToker Noah Beck, but he is not the alleged victim in this situation.
Authorities say that his older sister and another teacher groomed and preyed upon a teenage boy who attended their school.
Though it appears that things escalated as soon as he was no longer their student, it appears that criminal activities took place while the victim was still a minor.
Even with some key details unknown, this is appalling.
In 2020, TikTok took off in the US, the world’s everlasting regret. Noah Beck was one of the platform’s breakout stars.
His older sister, Haley Beck, is not a public figure. But she has appeared in some of his videos over the years.
She is one of two Arizona teachers whom authorities accuse of grooming and sexually abusing the same teenage boy.
Haley is facing an investigation over a potential charge for inducing another to engage in sex work.
Angela Burlaka may face a charge on the accusation that she furnished obscene material to a minor.
On Wednesday, April 8, a spokesperson for the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office addressed the investigation.
“These submittals are currently under review,” the spokesperson confirmed, “and there is no timeline available for when a charging decision will be made.”
Apparently, investigators had first recommended a single pandering charge — pandering meaning attempting to induce one to perform sex work.
However, the police were tasked with conducting an “additional investigation” to determine the full breadth of necessary charges.
Haley was already placed on administrative leave in August 2025. This came after a report from the Peoria Police Department about an alleged sexual relationship with a (former) student.
An investigation by the Peoria Unified School District reportedly found that Haley Beck had allegedly offered oral sex to a former student of Centennial High School.
She allegedly also offered to buy him tequila. She is also accused of sending him $630 via Apple Pay.
The probe cites over 4,000 texts that the two allegedly exchanged between June 21 and August 2 of 2025.
Last month, on March 11, a Title IX advisor recommended that Haley be fired — and never rehired.
This decision stems from claims that Beck had “developed a sexual relationship” with this former student. The report accused her of “predatory practices” such as the exchange of money.
Investigators seem to be looking into which charges they can bring against Haley beyond the “pandering” charge.
She is accused of grooming the student for months ahead of him becoming her former student. If so, then wrongdoing took place, though proving any crime may be tricky.
Meanwhile, Burlaka is accused of sending the same student sexually explicit videos while he was still a minor. That case may be considerably easier for the prosecution.
We know that Haley Beck has an attorney and is mounting a defense.
Without knowing more, it’s difficult to say more about what happened — or where things will end up.

We’ve been hearing about a summer wedding for months.
However, the venue is — as numerous outlets, including THG, suggested might happen — not where people were expecting.
According to Page Six‘s inside source, the save-the-dates reveal that the wedding will be in New York City.
This is a huge shift from numerous past reports, which claimed that the wedding would take place in Rhode Island.
However, for months, reports have suggested that Taylor might shift the venue — especially as the list of invites grew.
In a moment, we’ll delve into why the Big Apple makes so much sense for Taylor.
But first, we’ll acknowledge that some on social media have speculated that Taylor shifted the venue on purpose — or deliberately leaked a fake location — due to media coverage. We cannot verify that, however.
The date and location make a lot of sense
There are specific “wedding seasons” in the world.
These can be practical — times when guests are more likely to be able to take time off from work, or scenic — times when flowers are in bloom or leaves are changing their colors.
However, it makes sense for Taylor and Travis to marry in early July for a practical reason: his job.
We have all learned so much about the world of football since this relationship began. One of those fun facts is that Travis will have football camps to attend starting in late July, leading up to something called the “preseason” in early August.
Also, it can’t hurt that Taylor is a big fan of the Fourth of July.
As for New York, Taylor very famously moved to New York back in 2014, when she first broke out of her more genre-locked stardom and became a mainstream music behemoth.
Her Tribeca penthouse — which Taylor has expanded repeatedly over the years — is nothing short of palatial.
(It is allegedly the location where Karlie Kloss, as a guest, held an event without telling Taylor, resulting in a rift and a specific line from “Look What You Made Me Do.”)
Taylor also penned “Welcome To New York” and served as the city’s Welcome Ambassador for a time.
New York makes a very sensible venue for a wedding, especially if she has many guests. There will be no shortage of hotels.
Could this be a false flag?
We cannot rule out that Taylor could have sent fake save-the-dates to potential guests.
The cards could each have had a different phony detail — to identify the leaker when the detail went public.
But New York just makes a lot of sense. And sending out a second wave of “real” save-the-dates sounds like a whole hassle.
(Not to mention that leakers wouldn’t have to be guests. Many put save-the-dates on fridges, where anyone could see them.)
We’ll wait on Taylor and Travis for confirmation of the wedding plans. Until then, though, we’re sure that they’ll keep busy preparing for their big day.

We have sad news to report from the world of music today.
Afrika Bambaataa — the hip hop legend best known for his pioneering track “Planet Rock” — has passed away.
He was just 67 years old.
News of his passing comes courtesy of a social media post from Mick Benzo, a fellow musician and member of the Universal Zulu Nation, the music collective founded by Bambaataa
“Two days ago, I spoke with Afrika Bambaataa and found him in high spirits,” Benzo wrote on Instagram.
“Today, however, I began receiving calls about his passing. Concerned, I reached out to him but received no response. My worries deepened, and I was heartbroken to learn it was true—he had peacefully fallen asleep and did not wake up,” he continued, adding:
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Afrika Bambaataa, a pioneering architect and global ambassador of Hip Hop culture.
“Revered as the Godfather of Hip Hop, Bambaataa was instrumental in organizing, shaping, and elevating the culture from its earliest days in the Bronx into a worldwide movement rooted in the principles of Peace, Unity, Love, and Having Fun.
“Through his vision, leadership, and unwavering commitment, he helped transform Hip Hop into a powerful force for expression, community building, and social change.”
Bambaataa’s influence as a hip hop pioneer is undeniable.
However, in his later years, his musical contributions were overshadowed by scandal .
In 2016, Bambaataa was accused of molesting a teen.
Several other allegations followed, and though he denied them all, Bambaataa was eventually expelled from the Universal Zulu Nation.
According to a report from Rolling Stone, Bambaataa lost a child sexual abuse civil case last year after he failed to appear in court.
His cause of death is unknown at this time. We will have further updates on this developing story as new information becomes available.
