The Messi Game: 4 Takeaways From Argentina’s Record-Breaking Win Over Austria

Argentina came to Dallas needing a result to top the group and left with a record. Lionel Messi spent the opening 10 minutes missing a penalty and reminding everyone he’s human. He spent the next 85 showing everyone why he isn’t. Here are my takeaways from Argentina’s 2-0 win over Austria: 1. Klose-ing Time: Messi Didn’t Want A Roommate For exactly one game, Messi had shared the all-time World Cup men’s scoring record with Germany’s Miroslav Klose at 16 goals. Apparently the arrangement annoyed him. Late in the first half of Monday’s match, Facundo Medina dug out a cross from the left, Messi took one touch, and the ball settled in the bottom corner. No. 17 for No. 10, and the record was his alone. In stoppage time, he added an 18th goal, threading it through a thicket of Austrian legs like a man squeezing onto a closing subway car. Klose needed four tournaments to reach 16. Messi is in his sixth World Cup, two days shy of 39 years of age, and just opened a two-goal lead on the retired German striker. Messi also missed a penalty — the first player to do so at this tournament. Given the evening he just had, no one will remember that miss from the spot. 2. 40 Years After Maradona Magic, Messi Equals His Tally – In His Late 30s Forty years ago to this date, Diego Maradona beat England with his fist and then with the finest goal the tournament has ever produced. The most Argentine afternoon in football history. Maradona scored 34 goals for Argentina across his entire career and was retired from international duty by 33. But here’s the number that shouldn’t be possible: Messi has scored 34 since his 35th birthday alone. That’s a whole Maradona, assembled from spare parts and stubbornness in the years most players spend on a beach. Here are the numbers that matter: 18 World Cup goals to eight, 120 international goals to 34. The comparison stopped being a comparison a long time ago. 3. Argentina Won Ugly (Which Is The Scary Part) This was not the clinic that Argentina put on last week against Algeria. Ralph Rangnick’s Austria did the Rangnick things: pressed in waves, stayed compact, refused to lend Argentina any rhythm. Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni kept his 4-3-3 with Messi drifting in off the right, and the fluency came and went like a bad phone signal. Argentina edged possession 54%-46% and spent long stretches managing rather than menacing. Austria even had chances. Kevin Danso flung himself in front of an Enzo Fernández shot on the line, Michael Gregoritsch headed over, a stoppage-time header slid wide, and Argentina keeper Emiliano Martínez had to earn his paycheck on a Marcel Sabitzer free kick. They did everything right and lost 2-0 to a squad that had missed a penalty. That’s the warning for the rest of the bracket: the champion played at maybe 70 percent and still strolled out with three points. 4. Austria Is Down, But Not Out The scoreline stings, but Austria’s tournament is alive and, better still, in their own hands. They sit second in Group J on three points, and that 3-1 win against Jordan in the opener has quietly become the most important thing they’ve done all year. Argentina has won the group and reached the Round of 32. One automatic ticket remains. It comes down to the final match against Algeria. Win it, and Rangnick’s side almost certainly advance. Monday’s Jordan-Algeria result will tidy up the exact math, but Austria controls the part that counts. And they’ve earned the benefit of the doubt. They pressed the world champions, made real chances, and didn’t flinch. Nobody’s idea of a fun knockout draw, if they get there.Latest Sports News from FOX Sports

Clint Black Opens Up About Family Life And The Joy Of Watching His Only Daughter Lily Pearl Chase Her Dreams [Exclusive]

Country music icon Clint Black describes himself, his wife Lisa Hartman Black, and their only daughter Lily Pearl Black as a “tight little trio.” Over the years, they’ve shared their love of music and entertainment through various projects and celebrated life’s biggest milestones together. But behind the spotlight, Black says they’ve always tried to be a normal family.

Speaking with Country Now, Black explained that despite careers in the entertainment industry, he and Lisa made a conscious effort to raise Lily as “regular parents.” They showed up for the important moments, attended high school events, sat in the stands at volleyball games, and embraced the everyday responsibilities of parenthood just like any other mom and dad. Of course, there were a few reminders that Lily’s life wasn’t entirely the same as her peers.

“She sort of knew something was going on over there, but it was never a thing. And then when Dierks Bentley shows up at the house and Trace Atkins, then she starts to think, ‘Well, what’s going on here?’ Or I’m telling a story about jamming with George Harrison and The Beatles, ‘Who are you?’” Black jokes.

Lily Pearl recently turned 25 and has been learning to navigate her own path of success as an emerging country music singer and songwriter. She has already crossed off several major career moments like playing on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry, releasing her debut EP, and frequently joining her parents on tour. It’s safe to say that Clint Black is a very proud father watching his daughter grow up and pursue her dreams.

“It’s an emotional rollercoaster,” he noted. “I knew she had a great voice. We loved her singing voice. I got her with the voice coach I worked with years ago and she said, ‘Clint, she has a second break,’ meaning where my voice ends, if I could keep going up like Mariah Carey, that would be the equivalent. So he’s telling me that she has an extraordinary vocal range, great ear for when something is pitch.’”

Once they saw the incredible potential she had in music, Black hoped that she would also pick up songwriting in order to experience that indescribable joy he says that songwriters get when they pen a song from nothing.

“[I’m] talking to Lisa about it and saying, ‘I know I really want her to try to write songs. ‘And Lisa’s telling me, ‘Hey, if she can’t, that’s fine. A lot of singers don’t write their songs.’ And I went, ‘Yeah, but I want mine to.’ And so one day she did. She wrote a song and it wasn’t great, just like my first song, but I could see it. I could see the poet in her. And I went to Lisa, almost tears in my eyes, just happy for my daughter.”

Lily has come a long way since that first song. Even though her father might be slightly biased, it’s easy to agree that she is now writing “really, really good songs.”

“I can’t even come up with the words. Seeing her playing, one of her friends sent us a video of her singing her original songs at a songwriter round at a bar where quite a few people were just talking while she’s playing and singing. And I saw myself in all those years I spent in the bars as a soloist and it just brought so much joy just seeing her in the struggle for what she loves to do and knowing that she is on that path, it’s a big deal,” he explained.

Through it all, the “A Better Man” singer says the biggest constant has been the way they continue to show up for one another, whether it’s cheering Lily on in her early songwriting journey or celebrating major milestones together as a family. That support was on full display earlier this year when he, Lisa, and Lily gathered at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum to celebrate the opening of Clint Black: The Hard Way On Purpose, an exhibition that will remain on display through August 2027. While seeing his career honored in such a prestigious way was meaningful, Black admits his favorite part of the experience was watching Lily take it all in for the first time.

With touring and other commitments keeping all three of them busy, Clint Black says there aren’t any family trips in the books for this summer. However, he knows the family will find time to reconnect whenever possible.

“Nothing big planned, but we always come together on the breaks and do something,” he shared.

The recent trip to New York served as a reminder that the they don’t need an elaborate vacation to make good memories together. Between helping promote his new memoir Killin’ Time: My Life and Music, visiting various bookstores, sharing meals, and exploring the city, Clint, Lisa, and Lily turned a work trip into quality family time.

Clint Black’s memoir is available now. Fans can also watch him and Lisa in When I Said I Do, the new Lifetime movie inspired by the couple’s beloved duet of the same name. Plus, Black is on the road for his Back on The Blacktop Tour with dates running through November.

Nancy Guthrie’s Alleged Kidnappers Apologize For Her Death, Demand Payment For Safe …

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The mystery surrounding the disappearance of Savannah Guthrie’s mother has taken another heartbreaking turn.

According to a new report from Air Mail, one of the ransom notes allegedly sent by Nancy Guthrie’s kidnappers included an apology for the 84-year-old’s death, and it appeared to suggest that her body could be returned in exchange for money.

Nancy vanished from her Tucson home on February 1, setting off a massive search effort and an investigation that remains unsolved nearly five months later.

Authorities have long believedmthat Nancy was abducted.

In the days following her disappearance, several ransom messages surfaced.

One of the earliest notes reportedly demanded $4 million in Bitcoin for Nancy’s safe return and warned that the price would increase if payment was not made by a specified deadline.

But according to new reports, a subsequent message sent on February 6 struck a noticeably different tone.

Sources familiar with the investigation claim the note contained an apology for Nancy’s death and floated the possibility of returning her remains for a payment that was never clearly specified.

The report alleges that investigators attempted to trace the sender by transferring a small amount of cryptocurrency to the Bitcoin wallet connected to the ransom demand.

The hope was that the sender would move the funds and create a digital trail for authorities to follow. But that never happened.

The money reportedly sat untouched, and some observers now believe the failed strategy may have cost investigators a critical opportunity during the earliest days of the case.

Throughout the ordeal, Savannah Guthrie and her siblings have made repeated public pleas for information.

In emotional social media videos released earlier this year, Savannah, Annie, and Camron Guthrie addressed whoever may have taken their mother, urging them to come forward and promising they were willing to pay for Nancy’s return.

After receiving the February 6 communication, the family reportedly responded publicly, pleading for Nancy to be brought home. Later that month, Savannah even offered $1 million for information that could lead to answers about her mother’s fate.

Despite months of investigation, authorities have not identified the person responsible for Nancy’s disappearance.

Security footage reportedly captured a suspect near Nancy’s residence on the night she vanished, but no arrests have been made and the case remains open.

For now, Savannah and her family are still searching for answers — and hoping that someone, somewhere, knows what happened to Nancy Guthrie.

BREAKING: Arrest Warrant Issued For Bailey Zimmerman Following Alleged Hotel Incident In New Mexico

A warrant for Bailey Zimmerman’s arrest has been issued in the state of New Mexico, according to new court documents filed in Albuquerque Metropolitan Court.

In a new report shared by TMZ, Zimmerman is facing felony and misdemeanor charges after allegedly wrecking a hotel room and causing more than $16,000 in damage.

Court documents, which are public, state that the warrant was issued on June 18. The charges include criminal damage to property over $1,000 (a felony) along with two counts of falsely obtaining services, both misdemeanors.

The charges are reportedly tied to an incident on May 27, when Zimmerman was scheduled to perform in Albuquerque, New Mexico, at the amphitheater at Sandia Resort and Casino. According to TMZ, local authorities claim Zimmerman went on a “bender” and “trashed” the hotel room, later canceling that night’s performance and being removed from the resort.

Reports also allege the singer appeared intoxicated throughout the evening, acting erratically during soundcheck, including “stumbling, falling, and acting belligerently,” and throwing equipment. Zimmerman, 26, allegedly stormed off stage and, while returning to the resort, spit in the direction of a security officer and complained about being transported in a white SUV instead of a black one. He was later taken back to the resort, where he reportedly continued to stumble and had to lean on a member of his team while walking through the hallway.

The resort ultimately asked him to leave, and law enforcement was called to escort him off the property.

According to the documents, housekeeping staff discovered the hotel room the following day had been extensively damaged, with estimated losses exceeding $16,000. The alleged damage included the hotel’s TV, phone, coffee table, and two chairs. Staff also reported a hole in one wall, additional damage throughout the room, carpet stains, and two missing chairs.

The hotel further alleged Zimmerman charged more than $400 in alcohol to the room and never paid the bill. Court documents state that both resort staff and law enforcement attempted to contact Zimmerman and his team, but were reportedly unsuccessful, which led to the issuance of the arrest warrant.

Zimmerman canceled that night’s show, as well as a scheduled performance in Rohnert Park, California on May 30, telling fans he was ill and unable to perform.

“Y’all know there’s nothing I love more than getting out on the road and playing these shows for you, so it’s so hard for me to have to say this, but I have to reschedule tonight’s (5/27) and Saturday (5/30) shows. I have not been feeling well and have tried to power through, but I’m not able to give you all the show you deserve,” Zimmerman shared at the time. “I hate letting y’all down and was really looking forward to these shows, but I gotta take care of myself so I can get back out there stronger. We will be announcing the rescheduled dates as soon as possible, and all tickets will be honored for the new dates. Love y’all so much, and I appreciate the prayers and understanding, I’ll see you real soon.”

The venue also shared a statement saying all tickets would be refunded and made no mention of a rescheduled date.

“We regret to inform you that Bailey Zimmerman, Different Night Same Rodeo originally scheduled for 5/27/26 has been canceled. Refunds are available at the point of purchase. Cash purchases at Sandia Box Office can be refunded at Sandia Box Office with proof of purchase. All tickets purchased online or through the Etix Call Center with a credit or debit card will be refunded automatically. Due to high volumes, you should expect to see your refund within 10-14 business days. We apologize for any inconvenience.”

Bailey Zimmerman has not yet publicly commented. According to his official website, Zimmerman’s next scheduled tour date is set for Thursday, June 25 (Country Drive Music Festival) and Friday, June 26 (Hoofbeat Country Fest).
