Mauricio Pochettino To AC Milan After The World Cup? USA Coach, CEO Address Reports

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. — On Wednesday, reports overseas began to emerge that United States World Cup coach Mauricio Pochettino was interviewed by seven-time European champion AC Milan last week about their vacant managerial position. On Thursday, Pochettino and U.S Soccer CEO JT Batson addressed the news. “Mauricio and [his assistant coaches have] been incredibly transparent the entire process,” Batson told a throng of reporters here as Pochettino — whose contract expires after the tournament — led the Americans through their paces behind him at the federation’s National Training Center outside of Atlanta. “Even when we first met a couple summers ago, there were lots of other people interested in having Mauricio and [his] team join. He had standing offers from other places to come. He wanted to be here. He’s a big believer in what we’re doing in U.S. Soccer. He’s a big believer in soccer in America, and he’s a big believer in this men’s team.” Later in the day, Pochettino made it clear that he remains fully dedicated to the U.S. “People that question my commitment [are] people that want to create some problem,” he said. But he didn’t deny that he may have had informal conversations with suitors over the last two years, or that his representative(s) had fielded offers from interested parties. “We’ve had so many approaches, and we always say we finish the contract in July after the World Cup,” he said. Pochettino also confirmed that he turned down “bigger offers” to sign with U.S. Soccer in September 2024. “We wanted to come here,” he said. “When you have top-class talent,” said Batson, “Other organizations want them.” AC Milan, for whom American headliner Christian Pulisic has starred since leaving English club Chelsea for Italy in 2023, is without a manager after Maxi Allegri resigned earlier this week following the Rossoneri’s failure to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League. U.S. veteran Tyler Adams said the revelation that Poch is considering his future beyond the summer isn’t something he and his teammates are at all bothered by. “Our focus has to be here, on the World Cup,” said Adams. “There’s [players] in contract situations right now that have to figure out what to do, either before the World Cup [or] after the World Cup — it’s gonna be the same deal with coaches. He’s fully present with us every single day, finding ways to make us better, focusing on the trainings, just as we are.” The former Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur boss reiterated that he’s open to signing an extension to remain at the helm of the USA’s men’s program. “If the federation wants to talk with me about the future, it’s similar, no?” Pochettino said. “It’s a similar thing.” Batson insisted Thursday that an extension remains a possibility. “We’ve had a number of very long discussions around what the next four years could look like,” he said. “We’re excited and they’re excited. But, of course, we’ve got to focus on the summer, which we’re doing. The World Cup co-hosts take on Australia and Türkiye in their final two first round games. Pochettino’s reported $6 million salary is underwritten in part by deep-pocketed U.S. Soccer donors. I asked Batson if that funding will be available over the next four-year World Cup cycle, or if it was contingent on the U.S. staging the planet’s marquee event this summer, along with North American neighbors Canada and Mexico. “We now are able to enter in big decisions where we’re able to focus on what’s right for soccer, knowing that we’re going to have the resources to be able to do that,” he said. “Whether it’s our great commercial partners, whether it’s because fans have been buying a lot of tickets and a lot of jerseys, or because we’ve been able to get great philanthropic support. “As we approach all these decisions, first and foremost will be what’s going to drive the best soccer outcomes,” he continued. “We’re confident we’ll have the resources to be able to do that.”Latest Sports News from FOX Sports

Artists Rally Around Nate Smith After Candid Message About Mental Burnout and Social Media Pressures

Each day, people spend hours scrolling through social media, liking, commenting, and consuming endless content while creators work to keep up with constant demand. For many artists like Nate Smith, the pressure can be even greater, with platforms often doubling as both a promotional tool and a way to determine how well a song will do.

Smith recently shared a candid perspective in a new Instagram video, explaining how difficult it can be to constantly feel the pressure of needing to post and stay visible online in order for a song to be considered successful in today’s standards. He has since wiped out every other post on his page except for this honest statement.

He started out by thanking everyone who has shown him support over the past few years, offering the utmost appreciation for those who have bought tickets to his shows and played his music.

“I appreciate you guys so much. I appreciate everything you’ve done for me. I appreciate you always supporting me, showing up to my shows, playing my songs. That means the world to me. I’m so thankful for you guys.”

He paused before admitting, “I don’t know where to go from here. I don’t know how to navigate this really weird world that we’re in right now.”

Nate Smith also speaks from an artist’s point of view about what releasing music looks like in today’s social media-driven world, where expectations can feel incredibly high. He explains that he’ll write a song he truly loves, feels eager to share it with fans, and posts a video of himself singing along.

Over the next few hours and days, he finds himself fixated on the numbers. As the views come in, he admits he can’t help but watch them closely, often feeling discouraged when the response doesn’t meet his team’s expectations.

“[I] watch as my team goes, ‘Ah, shoot. Yeah, that one only got 20,000. We’re not seeing a big poll on that song. Oh, man. Probably not a hit. Probably not a smash.’ And then my worth is all determined based on likes and all this stupid stuff.”

This cycle has proved to be mentally draining for Smith.

“I’m tired, you guys. I’m tired. I just want to make music. I just want to make music,” he emphasized. “I just want to play shows. I don’t want to play these games. That’s kind of what this all feels like. It feels like one big game and it’s old and it’s tiring and it’s mentally exhausting and I know I’m not the only person out there that feels like this.”

The California native was clearly correct in his last statement, as comments began to pour in from fellow artists all admitting to feeling the exact same way that he is.

Chase Matthew wrote, “Gosh I feel you bro. Hard to stay passionate about the art when it starts to feel like a machine.”

Mitchell Tenpenny agreed, pointing out, “We are all tired of this horseshit. Keep making music bro. I feel you 🙏🏼”

Caylee Hammack assured Smith he “ain’t alone in it” and used Alex Warren’s massive hit “Ordinary” as an example of how an artist’s intuition about a song is always something to pay attention to as supposed to the algorithm and numbers on social media.

“Alex Warren’s song ‘Ordinary’ was not going to be a hit according to his team. No one believed in it & it wasn’t hitting online. He created 11 pages to promote it on & finally once it went viral on booktok, his team pushed it. But he KNEW the entire time. No one else did until they saw numbers.
Listen to your gut, push those songs, focus on what makes you love music & the music will find its way to the fans. We love you🧡”

Drew Baldridge and Charly Reynolds jumped in to say, “PREACH.”

Hundreds of fans, singers and songwriters all confirmed that Smith is not the only one who is feeling this way.

Continuing his statement, the “After Midnight” singer said he strongly feels there has to be another way to navigate releasing music in today’s world.

“There has to be a different way and I’m over it. I’m over the reels. I’m over the weird teasing things and stuff like that. I’ve got some great songs that I want to share with you guys, but I’m not doing it this way. There’s just got to be another way.”

He went on to suggest alternative approaches, including debuting new music directly to fans at concerts so they can experience and record it in real time, or simply releasing songs he believes in without buildup or explanation online and simply letting the music speak for itself.

“I’m tired of this hamster wheel crazy, crazy, crazy thing that we’re doing out here. This isn’t what I got into music for. Yeah, that’s all I have to say,” he concluded.

While Smith says he’s still searching for answers, his honesty has resonated widely. For now, his only a desire to get back to the music itself and find a way to better navigate the pressures around social media while still staying true to himself.

Gretchen Whitmer wavers on a run for president in 2028

MACKINAC ISLAND, Michigan — Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said Thursday that she won’t run for president in 2028 — then backtracked on the statement later.

Whitmer’s initial declaration appeared to remove a marquee name from Democratic primary contention.

“I think there will be a robust group of people running for president,” she told a Detroit television station. “I will not be one of them in 2028, I can tell you that.”

The two-term governor, long seen as a potential contender for the Oval Office, appeared at first to be one of the first major candidates to remove themselves from what’s expected to be a crowded field of candidates looking to succeed President Donald Trump.

Whitmer, speaking from the state’s annual policy conference in Mackinac Island, is barred from seeking another term as governor due to term limits.

She said she was looking forward to taking “a little bit of a break” and had spoken with Democrats Gina Raimondo and Pete Buttigieg, as well as Paul Ryan, the former Republican House speaker, for guidance on transitioning out of the political arena.

A few hours later, she walked it back.

During a panel discussion, she said she needed to “correct the record” on her earlier remarks.

“I never thought I would run for governor, so I guess I should know better,” she said.

Then she added: “Never say never.”

Whitmer said during the panel that she hadn’t intended to make headlines about her political career. “At this juncture, I’ve got nothing to announce.”

Whitmer’s initial statement that she would not run — ahead of the midterms, where her successor will be elected in the battleground state — did come unusually early in the political season. She has hinted before that she may not run for the presidency.

“One of the many reasons she would be a great president is because she is very focused,” said a person familiar with Whitmer’s thinking, granted anonymity to candidly discuss her calculus, referencing her 2014 comments that she would not run for governor. “Sometimes she does change her mind.”

Whitmer’s second term in office has been marked by a productive relationship with the White House, which some Democrats speculate could hurt her future political ambitions. She bristled when the president praised her during an Oval Office visit last April, and covered her face with blue folders as the press snapped photos.

But Whitmer has maintained that it has been beneficial for her state.

Trump announced a new F-15 fighter mission for suburban Detroit’s Selfridge Air National Guard Base several weeks later, a maneuver Whitmer’s office said could generate $850 million for Michigan.

“All the grief — this shows you why you put the people first,” she told POLITICO. “They see it, and it pays off.”

Adam Wren reported from Mackinac Island, Michigan.

Joy-Anna & Jinger Duggar Discuss Joseph’s Arrest Aftermath, But Are They …

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Back in March, authorities arrested Joseph Duggar.

He allegedly molested a 9-year-old girl. She told her father, and he told authorities.

The disgraced former reality star reportedly confessed twice, though he is currently fighting the charges.

Joy-Anna is expressing how raw this makes her feel. But she also talks too much about that, and too little about the child at the center of this case.

‘The hardest time I’ve ever gone through’

On the Wednesday, May 27 episode of The Jinger & Jeremy podcast, it was just Jinger and Joy-Anna.

During the broadcast, the 28-year-old opened up to her big sister about the ugly business with Joseph.

“I feel like every day is different,” Joy began.

“And,” she continued, “I think that it’s probably been the hardest time I’ve ever gone through.”

Coming from someone who grew up in an abusive cult, that sounds like a tall order.

“I think we’re all grieving in different ways,” Joy then opined.

“Every day just feels so heavy,” she expressed.

“And,” Joy-Anna observed, “I definitely think as time goes on, certain things that have gotten lighter.”

She confided in Jinger — and in thousands of viewers — that lighter doesn’t mean better. Not all of the way.

“But I’ve really been struggling, honestly,” Joy shared.

‘It’s already impacted my family so much’

According to Joy, her Christian beliefs have given her a sense of peace even when her family is in turmoil.

However, she is hesitant to make certain public comments — like directly and wholly condemning Joseph, for example — while so much seems to be up in the air.

“It’s already impacted my family so much,” Joy-Anna commented.

“I feel like the more I talk about it publicly, the more it just gets rubbed in our faces,” she explained.

“And,” Joy expressed, “I want to just move on with life in some ways.”

Of course, Joseph’s accuser likely cannot “move on.” She was only nine years old when he allegedly molested her repeatedly during a family vacation.

For all that people talk about the resilience of children, they have fewer coping mechanisms to deal with trauma.

Numerous commenters called out Joy-Anna. Some mentioned that she appears to be using spiritual bypass to compartmentalize her brother’s alleged crimes — among other things.

Joy has every right to talk about how having one brother behind bars and another facing prosecution on a not-unrelated crime impacts her.

But a lot of commenters across social media would like to see her recenter her concern upon the child in question. All else is secondary.

4 World Cup Dark-Horse Teams That Can Actually Make A Run

Forty-eight teams. An extra knockout round. And a draw that, in several groups, looks like FIFA was actively trying to cause chaos. Someone is going to go deep at this tournament that nobody saw coming. The biggest World Cup in history will, of course, still feature powerhouses and expected favorites to win. But more competition means more potential for surprise runs and new fan-favorite squads. Here are four dark-horse teams that should be on your radar for this summer’s FIFA World Cup. Odds to win World Cup: +3000Odds to advance from group: -900Group I opponents: Iraq (June 16), Senegal (June 22), France (June 26) Norway is back at the World Cup for the first time in 28 years, and it arrives as one of Europe’s most in-form sides. It dominated a Euro World Cup qualifying group that included Italy and also went undefeated during the qualifying process. Another story is that striker Erling Haaland has spent his entire career watching the World Cup on television; watching the other superstars get to shine on the biggest stage. Haaland scored a mind-numbing 16 goals in qualifying in just eight matches played. Simple math shows that’s an average of two goals per game. That just doesn’t happen in this sport. Norway did not sneak through — it bulldozed through, and Haaland did it with the energy of a man who benches small cars for fun and whose hair has its own agent. Anyway, Group I features France, Senegal and Iraq. Norway needs to finish second. Beating Senegal and taking something off France is entirely doable for a squad that also includes Martin Ødegaard and Alexander Sørloth floating around Haaland. Get into the knockouts, and nobody will want to play Norway. Odds to win World Cup: +4000Odds to advance from group: -1000Group K opponents: Uzbekistan (June 17), Congo DR (June 23), Portugal (June 27) Colombia has James Rodríguez, Luis Díaz and a deep attacking pool that gives it the ability to beat anybody in the world on a given day. And its qualifying campaign backed it up. Group K puts the squad alongside Portugal, DR Congo and Uzbekistan. That is a group Colombia can absolutely win. Néstor Lorenzo has built a team that no longer depends on one moment of James’ magic to unlock games, thanks to Díaz’s directness, a press that suffocates in midfield and genuine defensive solidity make this a complete side. James still pulls the strings, but he doesn’t have to carry everything anymore. James turns 35 in July. He has spent the last few years drifting from Rayo to León to Minnesota just to stay sharp enough to be here. He has one of the most elegant left feet in the game, capable of a magical free kick or a surgically precise through ball. Despite his age, he can still change the game from a stationary position. Colombia’s biggest current star is Luis Díaz. After moving from Liverpool to Bayern Munich, he became one of Europe’s most feared wingers. He finished the season with a whopping 26 goals and 19 assists across all competitions. World-class numbers. Oh, and he just won the Meisterschale, or as you and I say, the Bundesliga trophy. Luis Díaz will be one of the most important players at this World Cup. Odds to win World Cup: +5000Odds to advance from group: -1000Group C opponents: Brazil (June 13), Scotland (June 19), Haiti (June 24) At some point, we should probably stop calling Morocco a dark horse. It reached the World Cup semifinals in Qatar. It beat Spain. It beat Portugal. It did it with a structure so tight and a defensive shape so organized that elite coaches spent days trying to figure out how to break it. That tactical core is still largely intact — and then ex-manager Walid Regragui walked out in March. The new coach is Mohamed Ouahbi, a former U23 manager who most people had never heard of three months ago. On paper, that should terrify Atlas Lions fans. In practice, the system is so deeply embedded in this squad that the identity doesn’t live in the dugout. It lives in the players. Achraf Hakimi knows his role. Youssef En-Nesyri knows his role. This group has been through a World Cup semifinal together. A coaching change doesn’t erase that muscle memory. Morocco opens Group C against Brazil. Not against Haiti. Not against Scotland. Against Brazil, in what is immediately one of the best games of the group stage. Beat or draw the Seleção in that opener, and Morocco announces itself to the entire tournament. Qatar was not luck. This is a team that knows exactly how it wins. The 2022 run raised the bar. The manager who built that run is gone. Now we find out how deep the foundations actually go. Odds to win World Cup: +6500Odds to advance from group: -400Group F opponents: Netherlands (June 14), Tunisia (June 21), Sweden (June 25) Japan has beaten Germany and Spain at a World Cup. Both of those sentences used to be considered impossible. Now, it’s just the results from the 2022 tournament in Qatar. The pressing system Hajime Moriyasu has built is among the most disciplined in international football. The team’s pressing traps are overwhelming, its transitions rapid and its shape is almost impossible to disorganize. Kaoru Mitoma and Takefusa Kubo provide the technical quality. The collective provides the method that makes playing them a real nightmare. Players across their formation compete at the highest level of European domestic football. The talent is now mixed with plenty of experience. Group F draws them against the Netherlands, Tunisia and Sweden. It’s a tricky group, but Japan could very well advance. And if it does, a team this compact and this tactically fearless becomes one of the most uncomfortable draws in the knockouts. Nobody wanted to play Japan in Qatar. Nothing has changed.Latest Sports News from FOX Sports

Travis Kelce Hints That Taylor Swift Might Change Her Name After Wedding

Reading Time: 2 minutes

She has one of the most iconic names in music — but could Taylor Swift soon become Taylor Swift-Kelce?

That’s the question on the minds of many Swifties today in response to Travis Kelce’s recent social media activity.

As you’re likely aware, Taylor and Travis are engaged, and the wedding planning process has been very hush-hush, but it looks like the couple is planning to tie the knot in the next few weeks.

Taylor Swift attends the 67th Annual GRAMMY Awards on February 02, 2025 in Los Angeles, California.

And according to Page Six, Travis recently “liked” an Instagram post about the possibility of Taylor changing her last name.

The post featured a clip from Barstool Sports’ “Bussin With the Boys” podcast, in which the hosts discussed the possibility of Ms. Swift becoming Mrs. Kelce.

They decided that the most likely outcome would be Taylor changing her name to Taylor Swift-Kelce.

And that conclusion earned Travis’ seal of approval, a fact that’s led many to the conclusion that he and Tay have discussed the matter and come to the same conclusion.

“Travis liking this is hilarious. that’s why he’s perfect for her,” one fan wrote in the comments.

“Love that travis liked this video,” another chimed in.

Of course, even if Taylor legally changes her name, that doesn’t mean that she’ll do so professionally.

So fear not, Swifties, you won’t need to start rebranding yourself as Swift-Kelce-ies, which really doesn’t flow at all.

In other premarital news, several media outlets have been obsessing over Taylor and Travis’ prenup, and while such a document definitely exists (Tay is a one-woman, multi-billion-dollar empire, after all), we will almost certainly never know the details of it.

And then, of course, there are the persistent rumors that Taylor is pregnant, which began even before she and Travis announced their engagement.

Like her legal last name and the terms of her prenup, the state of Taylor’s uterus is for her to reveal when and if she feels ready.

We’re sure she’s used to living under a microscope after so many years at the top of the music industry — but the scrutiny has become even more intense in the run-up to Taylor’s big day.

2026 NFL Preview: Which 10 Players Are Most Likely To Benefit From Coaching Change?

Hope springs eternal with every coaching change in the NFL, as fan bases wish the new hire can turn their team around in Year 1. And that could also be a sentiment held by players, who might believe that the right coaching staff can maximize their potential. Just under a third of the league made a change at head coach this offseason, with 10 teams hoping that their change could lead to a winning culture. But which players stand to benefit the most from the coaching changes made over the offseason? In descending order, I rank my top 10, selecting one from each of the teams that have a new coach. New Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike McCarthy has been talking up Will Howard since his first days on the job. The 2025 sixth-round pick doesn’t have a pathway to start, barring injury — Aaron Rodgers is QB1 — but McCarthy’s extensive experience developing quarterbacks could pay major dividends for Howard, as well as 2026 third-rounder Drew Allar. Buffalo Bills coach Joe Brady has been vocal in his support of Coleman, who’s had two inconsistent seasons to start his career, after getting promoted from offensive coordinator this offseason. While the former second-round pick faces pressure to show growth in 2026, the stakes won’t be as high following the Bills’ acquisition of D.J. Moore from the Chicago Bears. So high-level production from Coleman would be a luxury for Brady’s offense, and maybe that’s the best-case scenario for the former Florida State standout. In his six seasons coaching the Cleveland Browns, Kevin Stefanski featured tight ends prominently in his offense. Harold Fannin Jr., for example, was Cleveland’s leading receiver in 2025 as a third-round rookie. So, Kyle Pitts stands to benefit from the new coaching staff in 2026. He’s coming off his best season since his rookie year — 88 catches for 928 yards and five touchdowns in ‘25 — so his upward trajectory could continue with Stefanski. Under new coach Todd Monken, the Cleveland Browns have loaded up their receiving core, adding two top-40 picks in KC Concepcion (first round) and Denzel Boston (second round) to a group that already included Jerry Jeudy and Harold Fannin Jr. The attention that Cleveland’s passing game should command is expected to open up the box for Quinshon Judkins, who’ll also have a rebuilt offensive line in front of him in 2026. New Arizona Cardinals coach Mike LaFleur’s experience in the pass game and as a wide receiver coach could help Marvin Harrison Jr. finally unlock his potential. A former No. 4 overall pick, Harrison should have plenty of single coverage opportunities downfield thanks to the pass-catching talent around him (star tight end Trey McBride, fellow wide receiver Michael Wilson) and rookie running back Jeremiyah Love’s presence forcing safeties to drop into the box. The run game was a key part of John Harbaugh’s success with the Baltimore Ravens, and that’s already been a priority early in his tenure with the New York Giants. New York signed perennial Pro Bowl fullback Patrick Ricard in free agency and drafted Miami (Fla.) offensive lineman Francis Mauigoa with the 10th overall pick to play guard. That makes Cam Skattebo, whose rookie season was cut short after eight games, a big winner as he returns from Not long after he became the Las Vegas Raiders’ head coach, Klint Kubiak said he envisions a Christian McCaffrey-like role for Ashton Jeanty in the offense. So, the former No. 6 overall pick’s touches could increase from the big workload he had as a rookie (321 touches, sixth in the NFL). Kubiak’s wide zone run scheme should present more opportunities for Jeanty to display his playmaking ability in the open field. The Miami Dolphins cut ties with several core players shortly after head coach Jeff Hafley and general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan were hired this offseason. One player they prioritized, though, was De’Von Achane. The standout running back received a four-year extension earlier in May. The versatile Achane will now be the engine of the Dolphins’ offense, giving new starting quarterback Malik Willis something to work with as the team arguably has the least talented wide receiver room in the NFL. Malaki Starks quickly received praise from new Baltimore Ravens head coach Jesse Minter. Minter said the 2025 first-round pick could be “a household type of name in the secondary” in a conversation with ESPN. It helps that Minter, who was the Los Angeles Chargers’ defensive coordinator the previous two seasons, has an extensive background in coaching defensive backs to guide the second-year pro. Starks played more snaps than any other Baltimore defender last season, positioning him to take a step forward from an encouraging rookie campaign. Tennessee Titans coach Robert Saleh has kept Cam Ward’s development top-of-mind in his first several months on the job. He got Ward much-needed wide receiver help in Ohio State’s Carnell Tate with the fourth overall pick, bypassing the top defenders on the board, and has paired the second-year quarterback with an experienced offensive coordinator in Brian Daboll, who helped develop Josh Allen into one of the league’s best quarterbacks in Buffalo.Latest Sports News from FOX Sports

Chase Rice Honors His Parents’ Love Story With New Song, ‘Connie Lou,’ Talks Limited-Edition ‘Beer Chords’ Jeans [Exclusive]

Chase Rice first established a partnership with Coors back in August of 2022 when he reached out to the company to get permission to use an old photograph of his late father holding two Coors Banquet beers, as the cover of his I Hate Cowboys & All Dogs Go to Hell album. Now, nearly four years later, Rice is once again teaming up with Coors Banquet, this time alongside Wrangler, to honor another important figure in his life: his mom.

Rice has been a longtime fan of Coors Banquets, and he’s proudly worn Wranglers on stage plenty over the last 15 years, making this new partnership a “natural fit.” When the opportunity came around, he knew he wanted to do something more than just create a jingle type song with no real meaning.

Over the years, the country singer has written several songs inspired by his father who suddenly passed away in 2008. That album cover holds a lot of memories for Rice and while looking at it one day, he realized that he didn’t have any songs for his mom in his catalog. This new campaign felt like just the right time to change that. And so, the idea for his brand-new track “Connie Lou,” was born.

“When I knew they were working together, we talked about a possible song. I wasn’t sure where that would go…I kind of wrote the chorus in my breakfast room, and then I was writing with Dan Couch and Oscar Charles one day. And I said, ‘I kind of got this idea…if we’re ever going to do a partnership that is involved around a song, I don’t want it to be that jingle thing. I want it to be a great song and I want it to tell a story because that’s kind of what I’ve been doing the last three records is telling stories,” he explained to Country Now.

Plus, when it came to writing his first song about his mom, Rice was firm in the fact that it had to be something good.

“It’s got to respect her, and it’s got to respect the two brands as well. And that was a natural, easy song to write once we finally started going down the road. Dan asked me, ‘what’s her middle name?’ And Connie Lou is her actual middle name. I haven’t called her that in years, but when I played it for her at Red Rocks, that was a really special one…”

Rice assured his mom that this song wasn’t slow and wouldn’t make her cry tears of sadness. Instead, it became almost a sequel to Rice’s “Circa 1943,” a previous release inspired by his grandparents, as he tells the story of how his parents first met at a rodeo in 1978 and fell so in love that they were married by the very next year.

“We figured if we’re going to go down the road of Circa and Harold and Bernice are in the song, that’s all the sequel to ‘Circa 1943.’ This was Circa 1978 and they were married in 1979. So it was a natural fit with the brands.”

The tune, arriving May 29, begins by describing Connie Lou as a “raised right Baptist” who was “a little more wild than her sister Katherine.” Rice reveals that her parents, Harold and Berniece always prayed that she would find a “got it together guy” one day. However, instead of falling for a doctor or lawyer, her heart was stolen by a man wearing “a felt hat and Wranglers” who was “sippin’ Coors Banquets.” Throughout the tune, the true story includes effortless nods to the brands and culture that have shaped Rice’s life and music, further proving that this collaboration couldn’t be more fitting for the singer/songwriter.

“Connie fell for a felt hat and Wranglers/ On that Friday sippin’ Coors Banquets / He was the Cool Hand Luke of western Wyoming/ She was the belle of the dance hall/ She saw a wild young mustang ready to tame/ He saw the one that never got away/ Circa 1978 and the cowgirls sang/ Na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na/ They sure sang,” Rice delivers on the chorus.

The story goes on to chronicle their life together, from getting married, owning a house and welcoming their “first little buckaroo.”

Rice was right when he promised his mother that the song would have a more upbeat, positive tone to it. “Connie Lou” is a feel-good, love-filled anthem that captures the joy of finding the right person and building a life together, wrapped in a timeless country sound full of heart and small-town, southern charm.

“I think it took her back to a really happy place of their relationship,” Rice shared of his mom’s reaction to the song. “And that’s what I wanted to be, especially, like I said, with summer festival season coming up, that’s where we’re really going to hammer this song at our live shows. So it’s going to give us a song that’s celebratory during our set as opposed to something sad.”

The singer goes on to note that he was “really excited” that Coors and Wrangler were both open to him putting together an actual story as a way to represent their brands.

“I wanted to stick true to who I am, but also working with these two American heritage brands was awesome for me because that’s what I wore in high school, that’s what I wore in middle school, that’s what I’ve worn on stage for years and the Beers, Coors banquet’s what I’ve drank because of my dad. So I’m really glad that it all came together and they were excited about the song.”

This marks the third collaboration between Coors Banquet and Wrangler, further celebrating the shared connection between country music, Western culture and storytelling. In addition to the song, “Connie Lou” also inspired a limited-edition pair of Wrangler’s signature “Beer Chords,” jeans featuring the chords from Rice’s new song printed directly onto the denim using ink infused with Coors Banquet beer, marking a first-of-its-kind design.

“I thought it was pretty perfect because I’ve done a lot of summer festivals over the years. There’s a lot of wranglers in the crowd…So it’s pretty perfect and fitting and there’s a lot of Coors Banquets at summer concerts as well,” he shared. “I think it’s really cool that they did it and you’re wearing the chords and the sound of a song on your jeans to a concert. I don’t think it could be written in the beer that you are drinking, so I don’t think it could be a better combo for summer.”

Alongside the “Beer Chords,” The Coors Banquet x Wrangler Collection will feature 32 unique pieces, including men’s and women’s apparel and co-branded caps. Highlights include the Denim Jersey, Brushpopper Cowboy Cut Work Shirt, Men’s Wrangler 13MWZ Cowboy Cut® Jeans, Women’s Reworked Short and Women’s Printed Vest and Bailey Flare Jeans.

The limited-edition collection will also offer just 250 pairs of the signature “Beer Chords,” released in two separate drops of 125 pairs beginning May 28 and June 4 at 12 p.m. CT at shop.coors.com while supplies last. Meanwhile, Chase Rice’s newest song, “Connie Lou” will arrive tomorrow, on May 29.

This collection marks the latest chapter in the brand’s “Start Your Legacy” campaign, a creative platform inspired by Coors Banquet’s western roots and more than 150-year history. Centered around encouraging people to chase bigger opportunities, the campaign also includes the “Connie Lou” Cover Contest, giving one emerging artist the chance to step into the spotlight and perform the song live onstage with Chase Rice.

In celebration of the collaboration, Chase Rice will debut “Connie Lou” during a surprise pop-up concert in Nashville tonight (May 28) as the brands take over the parking lot of Midtown hotspot Loser’s Most Wanted Bar & Grill for a celebratory block party launch event. Admission is free to the public on a first-come, first-served basis.
