World Baseball Classic Tiebreaker Rules: How Can USA Advance To Quarterfinals?

Two quarterfinal spots, three contenders. Pool B of the World Baseball Classic will go down to the wire with the USA, Mexico and Italy looking to advance to the next round. The USA beat Mexico, 5-3, in Monday’s game but lost to Italy, 8-6, on Tuesday.  Italy and Mexico play each other on Wednesday. The other two teams in the pool (Brazil and Great Britain) are eliminated. How Can Team USA Advance To the Quarterfinals? So, what’s the simplest path for the USA to advance? Cheer for Italy. If Italy beats Mexico on Wednesday, that will clinch Pool B for them. The USA will advance as the Pool B runner-up as they have the tiebreaker with Mexico. If Mexico beats Italy, the Americans will need some help.  In the three games between these teams, the two teams that allow the fewest runs-per-out recorded will advance. The USA allowed 11 runs and recorded 54 outs in its games against Mexico and Italy (0.203 runs allowed per out). Italy allowed six runs against the Americans (0.222 runs allowed per out), while Mexico gave up five runs but only recorded 24 runs in its loss to the USA (0.208 runs allowed per out). In short, if Mexico scores at least five runs, the U.S. will advance. It will all get sorted in Wednesday’s game between Italy and Mexico. You’ll know Team USA will be tuning in. Jelly Roll Reveals The Special Piece Of Johnny Cash He’s Wearing For Opry Induction

Tonight, March 10, Jelly Roll steps onto the Grand Ole Opry stage for his official induction. Before the big moment, he sat down with Opry host Kelly Sutton for a conversation surrounding the big night and revealed a special piece of Johnny Cash’s jewelry he’d be wearing to honor the country legend.

He shared with media that John Carter Cash, the son of the late icon, visited him backstage and personally presented him with an important piece from his father’s jewelry collection, a stunning gold cross necklace.

“He opens up a box and he goes, ‘I got something of my father’s I think that he would want you to wear.’ And he opened up this cross necklace that was Johnny Cash’s necklace. He said it was his father’s favorite piece of jewelry that his father owned. And he thinks that he would want me to wear this during the induction of his son.”

This gift meant a lot to Jelly Roll, especially since it comes from such a prominent member of country music history. He also reflected on the deep connection he’s always felt with Johnny Cash, noting their shared experiences of facing life’s struggles and the lessons he learned from the legendary singer. Having something of Cash’s to wear for such a milestone in his career was admittedly an incredibly emotional sentiment for him to try and wrap his head around.

“I lived my entire life somewhere between two middle fingers and the grace of Jesus Christ. And I learned that from Johnny Cash,” Jelly Roll shared. “This is the same guy that famously kicked the lights out on stage at the Ryman and flipped the bird to the photographer while breaking something. That’s breaking a law, by the way. He could have went to jail for that destruction of property. And this is also the same guy that I know is sitting right next to Jesus in the throne of heaven, smiling down for all the work he did for God on this planet too. So dude, I wear black because of Johnny Cash. So man, I could cry about this alone. My uncle grabbed it and almost cried.”

The country star went on to share another funny yet touching moment from his interaction with June Carter Cash: Jelly Roll discovered that he and Johnny Cash were the same height. The realization brought some laughs, but he turned it into something meaningful when he said he likes to imagine that the cross pendant on the necklace has rested close to both of their hearts.

This night is a full circle moment for Jelly Roll. He made his Grand Ole Opry debut on November 9, 2021, and has made it a priority to return to the Opry stage as much as possible ever since then. His invitation to join the historic community came last fall while appearing on The Joe Rogan Experience. During the interview, Rogan surprised him with a video message from Craig Morgan who personally welcomed him into the Opry family.

“Who would’ve ever dreamed back then that I’d be back at the Opry house today to say, Jelly Roll, you’re officially invited to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry. It’s an honor to say, welcome to the family brother,” said Morgan.

The moment was so unexpected that Jelly Roll was clearly stunned. He immediately threw his headphones aside, buried his face in his hands and let the tears flow from his eyes as Morgan’s words sunk in.

Tonight, the “I Am Not Okay” singer will officially be inducted by his friend and duet partner, Opry member Lainey Wilson. Several of his other fellow country stars will also perform throughout the evening, including Craig Morgan, Leanne Morgan, and more, making it a celebration of both his career and the friendships he’s built along the way.

Trump-endorsed Republican advances to runoff in Georgia special election for MTG’s seat

Republican Clayton Fuller and Democrat Shawn Harris are advancing to a runoff in the special election to serve out the remainder of former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s term in Congress.

Fuller, a local prosecutor and Air National Guard member, is heavily favored in the April 7 runoff in the deep-red northwest Georgia district. He overcame a crowded field of Republican competitors with the help of an endorsement from President Donald Trump in early February.

But his inability to win 50 percent of the vote means the seat will remain open for another month, hampering House Republicans’ already-slim majority.

The election was widely expected to head into a runoff given the high volume of interest in the seat. The crowded special election drew interest from more than 20 candidates after Greene’s abrupt departure from Congress amid her high-profile falling-out with Trump. Greene declined to throw her support behind any candidates in the race, but her legacy and public spat with the president loomed large over the race to replace her in the House.

Harris, the Democrat, unsuccessfully challenged Greene in 2024. Despite advancing into the runoff, the retired brigadier general and cattle farmer faces a steep uphill climb to overcome the district’s conservative lean.

Georgia’s 14th Congressional District stretches from Atlanta’s northwest exurbs along the state’s border with Alabama and up to its northern border with Tennessee. Greene has carried the seat by massive margins since she was first elected in 2020 — a reflection of the area’s strong conservative tilt. The seat is expected to remain out of reach for Democrats regardless of the political headwinds Republicans face nationally this year as prices rise and voters sour on Trump’s agenda, though with more than half the vote counted Harris actually led the field of candidates, the latest Democratic over-performance in a special election over the past year.

The runoff extends the seat’s vacancy in Washington, where House Republican leadership is eager to grow their razor-thin majority as quickly as possible.

But election season in Georgia, even for this seat, is hardly over. Several of the candidates who mounted special election bids have already qualified to run in the mid-May primary for a full term representing the district.

That includes former state Sen. Colton Moore, a hardline conservative and longtime Trump supporter who declined to step back from the race even without the president’s backing and finished a distant third in the race. Fuller is set for a rematch with many of the same figures he triumphed over in this special election, though he now enters that primary with the advantage of a nascent incumbency as well as Trump’s support.

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this article misspelled Marjorie Taylor Greene’s name.
