Thomas Rhett and his family are experiencing another heartbreaking loss. For the second time in just six weeks, they’re mourning the passing of a beloved family pet as their sweet Kona has died.
The country star took to Instagram to share a tribute to Kona, a Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog, who passed away just weeks after their dog, Cash.

“It’s been a tough dog month for our family. We lost our little Kona girl. I think after cash passed she just wanted to go be with him. It’s weird losing a dog, cause whether you know it or not they are just always there, always by your side at the dinner table. They are truly a part of your family,” he wrote.
He went on to share that he listened to HARDY’s song “Dog Years” and broke down in tears, saying the track hits especially hard for anyone who’s loved and lost a dog.
“Got the courage last night to listen to HARDY song ‘Dog years’ I cried like a child, but dang that song is so spot on about the life of a dog if they could talk. Kona and Cash yall will be missed a lot. I know y’all are having a blast up in heaven together,” he shared.
Rhett introduced Kona to fans in 2013 via YouTube and explained the meaning behind his name.
“We went to Hawaii for our honeymoon. We drank Kona coffee every day, like Kona is one of the islands in Hawaii… I was looking up Hawaiian dog names, and one of the names was Kona,” he revealed.
On October 16, Rhett shared a tribute to Cash alongside a gallery of photos of the sweet pup.
“Today our sweet little Cash man went to go be with Jesus. He was the most loyal, kind dog that I have ever known,” he wrote.

According to Rhett, Cash wasn’t just a pet, he was Lauren’s “best friend” and a comforting, protective companion each time they welcomed a new daughter home. Even with his goofy, troublesome moments, the pain of losing him has been overwhelming.
“He would stay up so many late nights with her while she was sick and I was gone. I never in a million years thought that a dog I got so frustrated with for eating food or tearing up things in the house would make me this sad,” he continued.
After losing both Kona and Cash, Thomas Rhett’s friends and fans rallied around him on Instagram, filling the comments with love and condolences.

The country music community rallied in a big way to support Tracy Lawrence’s mission to feed the homeless this Thanksgiving after a broken refrigerated truck spoiled 650 of the 3,600 turkeys set aside for donation. Once Lawrence shared the setback on social media and asked Middle Tennessee locals to help, the response was immediate and also overwhelming.
Fans, friends, and fellow artists stepped up with 2,400 donated turkeys, pushing the new total to 5,350 cooked and frozen turkeys distributed this season. Thanks to the generosity of the community, Lawrence’s annual effort has now surpassed 50,000 meals provided to those in need.

Artists including Jamey Johnson, Tucker Wetmore, Charles Esten, Dustin Lynch, Meghan Patrick, John Crist, Rodney Atkins, Clint Black, Rhett Akins, Frank Ray and more all played a part in the try fry on Tuesday morning.
Wetmore even surprised Lawrence by dropping off more than 100 turkeys, while Patrick also donated and encouraged her followers to join in. Additional turkeys came from Steve Wariner, Atkins, Black, Akins, Esten, and others.

The support didn’t stop there. Later that night, fans packed into Luke Combs’ Category 10 for a special benefit concert featuring Tracy Lawrence, Gretchen Wilson, Chris Cagle, Eric Paslay, and Halfway to Hazard. The event shattered records, raising $355,000 for Mission:Possible through ticket sales, silent auction items, major artist contributions, and more. A check for $250,000 was presented to the Nashville Rescue Mission.
For the first time, the show also included a canned food drive benefiting Second Harvest Food Bank, helping local families facing food insecurity. One lucky supporter even walked away with a signed guitar thanks to the food drive raffle.

“I cannot imagine a better 20th anniversary for the Mission:Possible Turkey Fry and Concert,” Lawrence shared. “What started as a day of uncertainty turned into a day of our community coming together in a way I couldn’t have imagined. Between the fry itself and the benefit concert with my friends Gretchen, Chris, Eric and Halfway to Hazard, I was blown away once again by the kindness of our neighbors.”
Monetary donations can still be made to Mission:Possible here.
