Christopher Scholtes: Father Who Left Toddler to Die In Hot Car Found Dead on Day He Was …

Reading Time: 2 minutes

One of the year’s most disturbing stories has taken yet another unsettling turn.

Back in July, Christopher Scholtes’ 2-year-old daughter died in a hot car while he was allegedly “distracted” by porn and video games.

On Wednesday, Scholtes was found dead in his home.

Though police have not released an official cause of death, it’s widely believed that Scholtes took his own life.

The father, whose alleged negligence cost his daughter her life, was permitted to remain outside of custody until November 5.

At that time, the court would determine if he would need to be placed behind bars before his formal sentencing, which was scheduled for November 21.

Sgt. Brian Bower of the Phoenix Police Department tells People that officers discovered Scholtes’ body after responding to an unspecified call shortly after 5 am this morning.

Scholtes surprised many observers last month, when he pled guilty to his daughter’s murder just weeks before his trial was set to begin.

The 38-year-old could have faced the death penalty had his case gone to trial.

Scholtes had been running errands with his toddler on July 9 when he went inside to play video games.

His wife discovered their daughter’s body when she returned home. She has not yet spoken publicly about the loss of her daughter or her husband.

It has been widely reported that Scholtes also searched for pornography on his PlayStation for several minutes, but the judge determined that that information could not be introduced at trial.

According to the criminal complaint, the temperature inside the car reached 109 degrees.

Scholtes is survived by his wife and their two remaining children.

We will have further updates on this developing story as new information becomes available.

Tom Bergeron Books Return to Dancing with the Stars

Reading Time: 2 minutes

He’s coming back home, folks.

Five years after his exit from Dancing with the Stars, original host Tom Bergeron is returning as a guest judge for the show’s 20th anniversary special, scheduled to air on Tuesday, November 11.

“It feels really good,” Bergeron said Tuesday on Good Morning America about his return. “I’m really looking forward to it.”

We guess time really can heal all wounds, huh?

Bergeron was let go by ABC back in 2020.

He broke the news of his own ousting on Twitter, saying back then he had been told by producers that he won’t help anchor Season 29 of Dancing with the Stars.

“Just informed @DancingABC will be continuing without me,” Bergeron wrote, taking the high road and adding:

“It’s been an incredible 15 year run and the most unexpected gift of my career. I’m grateful for that and for the lifelong friendships made.

“That said, now what am I supposed to do with all of these glitter masks?”

Bergeron had previously been critical of former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer having been cast on Dancing with the Stars, thinking someone who misled the country so horribly should never have been given such a platform.

As a guest on Cheryl Burke’s podcast, Sex, Lies and Spray Tans in 2023, Bergeron expressed his disappointment over this dismissal.

“I get a phone call,” he said on that episode of how he learned about Spicer.

“And they run down the list of who is going to be on the show, and this former showrunner says to me, ‘You might want to sit down for this last one.’ And then they told me who it was, the former press guy for Trump. I said, ‘Guys, this is exactly what we said we wouldn’t do. Don’t go there. This is not the right time, play to our strengths, be the show that gives people a break from all this bulls–t…

“And that really pissed me off.”

Back in 2020, co-host Erin Andrews also departed the program, and Tyra Banks followed as the next host.

It does seem fitting all this time later that Bergeron join fellow judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli and Derek Hough, as Dancing With the Stars celebrates two decades on air with its 34th season.

The show — based on the British show Strictly Come Dancing — first began airing on ABC in June 2005.

Trump blames shutdown for GOP election losses

President Donald Trump on Wednesday said the government shutdown played a “big role” in Democrats’ victories Tuesday night and urged Republicans to kill the Senate filibuster to quickly restore federal funding.

“If you read the pollsters, the shutdown was a big factor, negative for the Republicans,” Trump said during a breakfast with Senate Republicans at the White House. “Last night, it was not expected to be a victory, it was very Democrat areas. I don’t think it was good for Republicans. I don’t think it was good for anybody. We had an interesting evening and learned a lot.”

He cited outside pollsters who have attributed the GOP losses to the fact that Trump wasn’t on the ballot, depressing turnout among the MAGA base. “I don’t know about that but I was honored that they said that,” he added.

Trump used his candid autopsy of the election results to urge Republicans to kill the Senate filibuster to quickly reopen the government and then enact their agenda, including a national voter ID requirement.

He acknowledged that it’s an unlikely proposition as most Senate Republicans oppose the move but warned that he believes Democrats will do so the next time they’re in power.

“It’s possible you’re not going to do that, and I’m going to go by your wishes,” he said. “You’re very smart people. But I think it’s a tremendous mistake. It would be a tragic mistake, actually.”

On Wednesday, the shutdown stretched into its longest in U.S. history, with the previous 35-day shutdown set during Trump’s first term in 2019. Republican and Democratic lawmakers are locked in a stalemate.

Democrats on Tuesday won gubernatorial races in Virginia and New Jersey and a high-profile mayoral race in New York City in which Trump endorsed two of the losing candidates. Complicating Trump’s newfound focus on a swift end to the shutdown, the romp only further ratcheted up pressure on Democratic senators who are signaling they could be ready to end the record-breaking government shutdown to hold the line until they secure an extension to Affordable Care Act subsidies.

“Republicans aren’t the ones asking for anything, so for them it’s a choice between changing the rules or helping Dems find an offramp,” Liam Donovan, a veteran GOP strategist, told POLITICO. “Last night’s result theoretically allows Democrats to declare victory and end this on their own terms, but success makes choreography of any resolution that much trickier.”

Northern Virginia counties with large concentrations of federal workers shifted toward Democrats. Over a fifth of voters in CNN’s Virginia exit poll said someone in their household was a federal worker or contractor; of those, 63 percent supported Democrat Abigail Spanberger.

Progressive advocacy groups, Democratic strategists and some of the party’s Senate hopefuls immediately seized on the results as a spine-stiffener for the senators.

“It would be moronic for congressional Democrats to cave after voters said hell no to Trump and his creation of economic pain for Americans. Trump should honor the will of the people and fold,” Adam Green, who co-founded the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, said Tuesday night.

A Senate Democratic aide, granted anonymity to discuss caucus deliberations, said “it’s hard for anyone to argue the message from voters is ‘please cave ASAP’ to Trump.” The pressure “will be enormous for moderates to hold the line.”

“This should send a chill down the spines of congressional Republicans and make them realize they need to come to the table if they have any hope of changing the political tides,” Democratic strategist Jared Leopold said.
