Jordan Davis Reflects On Taking Risks And Finding Balance On New Album, ‘Learn The Hard Way’

For Jordan Davis, trying to balance four kids at home, a busy tour schedule and constantly writing new songs is no easy feat and naturally, that chaotic lifestyle has resulted in him learning his fair share of lessons. Davis tapped into that push and pull between chasing the dream and being present with his family to shape his new album, Learn the Hard Way.

Fans heard Davis pour his heart into his last project, Bluebird Days, and this time around, the singer-songwriter says his focus was a bit different. On his past collection, he unleashed a slew of very personal stories, whereas on this release, he wanted to have a bit more fun while still giving fans a raw look into his reality.

“This was like, ‘man, I want to have fun writing. I want to have fun in the studio, and I want to have fun playing these songs that end up on this album.’ And I definitely feel like we did that from a sound standpoint,” Davis recently told Country Now and other outlets. “Even now looking at songs and where they’re going in the set list, I’m excited to play those. Not that I’m not excited to play any of the other ones, but they’re fun songs.”

“Take Some Risks, Push Boundries”

His second main goal for Learn The Hard Way was to “take some risks, push boundaries, do something that we haven’t done, even if that means it doesn’t work out.”

Davis pointed out that one of his biggest fears when putting out new projects is that listeners will feel like the songs sound no different than his previous work. In order to avoid that repetition, he carefully built out these tracks with the intention of offering something fresh and more diverse than what appeared on his previous albums.

Learn The Hard Way certainly carries a new energy both sonically and lyrically. This begins with the title track, which speaks to many of the real-life challenges and elements of that internal tug-of-war that are woven throughout each of the 17 tracks.

“Balance with me has always been something that I’ve struggled with. And then especially when things started going well in music, you want to go out there and you want to play shows and you kind of want to capitalize on that. And then you also want to be a good dad and a good husband and be able to really juggle those two worlds. And I think subconsciously, a lot of these songs are about that,” he shared honestly. “I think it goes to show you where I was in a head space in that. So when I heard ‘Learn the Hard Way,’ it made all that come together.”

Tapping Into Real Life

Many tracks emerged during writing retreats with fellow hitmakers, including one that took place a friend’s Florida beach house that inspired the swampy vibe of “Louisiana Stick” featuring Marcus King. Their last retreat spawned “Muddy The Water,” which ended up being the final song to be written for the project and appears last on the track list.

Of all the songs, Davis feels “Keeping The World Away” best captures where he is today. The song was born from a simple yet powerful moment when someone noticed he was glued to his phone and suggested he shift his focus.

“’Keeping The World Away,’ that idea came from somebody noticing that I was on my phone too much and told me to ‘put the world down.’ I mean, right when he said that, I was like, ‘Oh my gosh’…so I would say that that’s a song that really speaks to me right now in a time where if I get too caught up in music, I can always lean back on that and be like, ‘Hey, man, remember why you wrote that song? Don’t get caught up too much in what we do in everyday life.’”

Davis also shared some personal touches behind the album’s stories like “Son of a Gun,” which was inspired by his oldest son Locklan, whom he calls a “Wild Card.”

Another standout is the duet “Mess With Missing You” with longtime friend Carly Pearce. Davis shared that despite knowing each other since 2012 and having talked about collaborating for years, it wasn’t until now that they found the right song to do it with.

“Neither one of us wanted to force anything or just do it because we wanted to have a song together. And we talked about it for so long, but it was finally with this one where I was like, ‘alright, this is it.’ And all I had to do was send it to her and hope she signed off on it. And she did and absolutely crushed it. Such one of my favorite voices out there, so I can’t be more stoked on how that one turned out.”

Learn The Hard Way arrived August 15 and includes Davis’ latest and Gold Certified No. 1 hit “I Ain’t Sayin’,” along with other previous releases, “In Case You Missed It,” “Know You Like That,” “Turn This Truck Around,” “Jesus Wouldn’t Do,” and title track.

With this album, Jordan Davis solidifies his place as one of country music’s most consistent and reliable hitmakers. With eight No. 1s already to his name, there’s no doubt he’ll be adding more, as this project is packed with potential radio hits. It’s easy to see this project taking him to the next level of stardom. He’s got the full package: singer, songwriter, and entertainer.

Next month, these songs will come to life on stage when Davis kicks off his nationwide Ain’t Enough Road Tour kicks off on Thursday, September 11 in Greater Palm Springs, CA at Acrisure Arena. Then, he will make his return to the UK and Europe in February 2026 for his biggest international headlining tour to date. A full list of upcoming dates can be found on his official website.

Priscilla Block Previews Sophomore Album with Vulnerable New Song ‘Couldn’t Care Less’

Priscilla Block is stepping into a new chapter of her music, unveiling a more vulnerable side of her artistry with the release of “Couldn’t Care Less” and the announcement of her upcoming album, Things You Didn’t See.

The North Carolina native strips back her signature confidence and badass persona, showing fans that she isn’t always the bold, self-assured  woman they’ve come to know.

Co-written with Trannie Anderson, Alex Maxwell, and Cole Taylor, the track explores the side of Block that feels misunderstood, weighed down by criticism, and overlooked when her name isn’t called at award shows.

I posted a picture and it got a bunch of likes/ That she should lose weight comment kept me up all night/ I hit reply and made a little out of what they said/ Like I couldn’t care less/ Walked the carpet, sat a couple rows up from the stage/ Hoping I would hear my name, they said a different name/ I was clapping, laughing, smiling, standing in a sparkly dress/ Like I couldn’t care less, she sings on the first verse.

On the chorus she flips the script, revealing her true feelings as she sings, “Ooh, like it don’t mean something / Ooh, like to me it’s nothing / Like I do my best to tune it out / Shut the door / Like I couldn’t care less / Hell, I couldn’t care more.”

Block previewed the song during Country Now Live earlier this year, leaving fans captivated by her honesty.

At the time she shared, “I feel really honored that I’m in a place where people can hopefully feel inspired to love themselves a little bit more or feel more confident because they found my music and they somehow relate…But I feel like I hear this all the time where people are like, ‘I love how confident you are, and I love how unapologetically you are.’ And I kind of just got to thinking. I was like, I feel like sometimes I always have to be like that…just so you guys know, I’m not always confident and I’m not always unapologetically me. Some days I have really, really hard days and there’s some days that I wonder what the hell I’m doing and all the things.”

“Couldn’t Care Less” gives fans a first look at the openness Block will bring to her sophomore album, which tackles themes like anxiety, burnout, and the constant pressure to always be “on.” Across 14 tracks, she digs into struggles with body image, dealing with online negativity, the mental toll of life in the spotlight, finding her artistic identity, and navigating the expectations of fitting into country music’s traditional mold.

“For what has felt like forever, here we are stepping into a new chapter,” Block shared. “The past couple of years have been a rollercoaster. This life has challenged me not only as an artist, but as a person. Honestly, there’s been a part of me that has felt misunderstood. The girl who “couldn’t care less,” when in reality, I’ve never cared more.

“Writing ‘Couldn’t Care Less’ was the therapy I didn’t even know I needed. For a long time, people have seen me as bulletproof, but this is a side they haven’t seen. It’s the misunderstood part of me… the insecurities that come with being human. It feels like the perfect way to lead into my record ‘Things You Didn’t See,’ coming October 10th.”

Elmo and Abby Cadabby Talk Cowboy Hats, Nashville and Their Grand Ole Opry Debuts

In honor of its ongoing 100th birthday celebration, the Grand Ole Opry welcomed two very special guests to its legendary stage on Thursday: Elmo and Abby Cadabby from Sesame Street. Both beloved characters served as guest announcers and made their Opry performance debuts, delighting fans with their first-ever appearances on the iconic stage.

Ahead of their big moment, Country Now caught up with Elmo and Abby to talk about adding Nashville to their summer road trip, how they prepared for performing at the Opry, and what it meant to bring a little Sesame Street magic to Music City.

Elmo shared that the duo had been longtime fans of Nashville and were excited to take in everything the city has to offer.

Abby revealed that a country superstar also inspired their visit.

“Our friend Chris Stapleton stopped by and he was singing to us about how music brings everybody together with friendship, and so he said, ‘You should come to Nashville.’ So here we are,” she declared.

The 11-time GRAMMY winner encouraged them to pick up cowboy hats for their trip, adding an extra layer of Nashville flair. The pair also spent time exploring downtown, soaking in the sights and sounds of Music City’s famous Lower Broadway.

“We went down Broadway and then we just…music after music after music, we followed our ears to about five or six different bands,” Abby revealed, sharing how much fun they had discovering live performances throughout the city.

In preparation for their Opry debut, both Elmo and Abby dedicated time to rehearsing and made country music a big part of their road trip sound track.

“We’ve been rehearsing our songs and Elmo’s been singing in the car and listening to a lot of country music, listening to a lot of Dolly [Parton],” Elmo explained.

“We love Dolly,” Abby, who revealed she looked to Parton’s iconic style when deciding what to wear for her debut, added.

That evening, Elmo joined Opry member Lauren Alaina for a performance of her No.1 hit “Road Less Traveled,” while Abby sang alongside Tayla Lynn on “You’re Lookin’ At Country.” Lynn followed in the footsteps of her Opry-member grandmother, Loretta Lynn, who appeared on Sesame Street more than 40 years ago.

The pair was excited to help the Grand Ole Opry celebrate 100 years, and even more excited about what comes along with the celebration.

“How do you celebrate a big milestone? Like a hundred years of Opry? Oh my goodness. Cake!” Elmo exclaimed.

Fans can follow Elmo on Instagram for more.
