NOTN- The Juneau Planning Commission has unanimously approved a scaled-down version of Huna Totem Corporation’s planned Áak’w Landing cruise ship dock and waterfront development in downtown Juneau.
The commission voted Tuesday to amend its 2023 approval, allowing the company to reduce the size of the upland facilities, eliminate underground parking and reconfigure bus staging and parking areas.
In a story by KTOO, officials with Huna Totem Corporation say construction costs have climbed from an estimated 150 million dollars to more than 250 million, largely due to steel tariffs and market volatility.
The revised project would still include a welcome center, waterfront shops and restaurants, a small cultural center, a park and event space.
